Vinomofo Wine Deals

Are you saying there is much better Chardonnay out there than Handpicked Mornington above and below $22.50?

there's much better above $22.50 :)

as for below, Xanadu Chardonnay 2014 and Tyrrells Belford Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2012 could fit the bill using the AmEx WineStar offer

Well I said I'd report back on the Hart of the Barossa The Brave 2013 and here it is as promised (I've inserted an image of the wine as it might be going back in time a bit for some of our newest members):

Pulled the corkscrew out and popped it open (yes, that's right it is under cork) FWIW the cork is one piece/natural and appears to be of good quality. Poured a moderate amount into a glass and observed the very deep alizarin crimson hue fading to magenta, certainly quite alluring. The nose, well I picked up black cherry, chinese 5-spice, a hint of vanilla and a hard-to-describe slightly marzipan/medicinal dimension. I had expected the palate to be bigger and bolder than was really the case, a bit of pre-sales hype perhaps? These adjectives come to mind: soft, round, gentle, yielding. Little astringency or oak definition to my tastebuds, the flavours hinted at previously of black cherry and subtle vanilla but really not getting the boldness or robustness indicated by CM. If this has "...all guns blazing" then they're pop-guns rather than 44 Magnums! That isn't to say that it is lacking necessarily. Anyway, a relatively long finish as the shots echo round the room of strawberry ripple ice cream, a teensy bit underwhelming in my book, will revisit it tonight to see how it has fared....

Addendum: had another crack at it tonight and it hasn't grown wings and soared away I'm afraid, OKish, probably only a 90 W&D points from me, I'm curious to hear what others have made of it.

I see dead people. Famous words, famous film. Is limited release a euphemism for 'made for the fo'?

Look, I knew the final denouement of your assessment was going to show mediocrity after the hesitation in your first stasnza.

It's in the palate really with medium bodied being a 7/10 and a fine line to full flavoured that in my books would start at 8.5/10.

AC's assessment of the Fox and Hounds similarly points out that this to him at least it was more Jennifer Hawkins than Megan Gale, and to propose another comparison,

a little like Jonathan Thurston compared to Fatty Vautin. What about Noami Campbell and Queen Latifah.

There's two I now need to promptly sample, The Fox and the Squitchy.

Let me say the Epsilon Tempranillo is beautiful. I think I have mentioned that before But it makes me feel very good on the inside.

Oh Mr Hart, Mr Hart. Famous man, famous advertisement. But for you Whining and Dining, one word I know so sorry, at least your heart is in the right place !

You know BF, I really wanted to go gaga over this wine, a shiraz (always my weapon of choice) under cork (let's not get into a debate over that old chestnut) a purported belter etc etc but in the final analysis a mid-weight would-be contender rather than a heavy-weight Muhammad Ali-styled pugilist that I was promised! I don't have to be hit over the head with a wine, I do appreciate subtlety but I'm just not feeling it with this little number. Yes I want Queen Latifah's booty not Naomi Campbell's tantrums and svelte derriere!
I'm beginning to kick myself big time for not having jumped on the Epsilon bandwagon first time round, maybe the good folks at the 'Fo will give it another tour of duty, if that's the case (and because I trust your impeccable judgement in these matters) I will grab a dozen-let's hope!!

Mmmmmm I'm sorely tempted but I'm not going to break my self-imposed price barrier on this one ( but dammit it sounds fantabulous!)

Presume this is the 2014 ? Any comment on comparison to West Cape Howe recent 2013 and 2014 vintages ?

I can only enlighten you on the vintage having not had the West Cape Howe and yes it is 2014. BF certainly has endorsed it (the Epsilon) and so successfully that I'm going to nab a case when it comes around again...

Popped and poured on a lazy Saturday afternoon. This doesn't seem to be in the same league as last year's Shiraz Cab. The nose kinda matches the notes, but the body seems to be thin to me. Tannins are soft. Maybe it needs a bit more time to breath. Not bad, but not great like last year.
Now having two reviews of the Fox I will add a third and try not to be as expressive or illustrative as WD. I Will make this a rather succinct analysis. Three of us all said it"s going back

I feel a little like Wozza did at the tail end of last year. Too many returns. Before you ask, like AC has mentioned, I found it too thin, a little bitter, poorly developed fruit with an end palate minor harshness. Oh well,.that's my w(h)ine.

From memory, I liked the generic west cape Howe tempy everytime I have had one out of the same vintage. I have had two epsilons, both very good. A bit hard to pick the winner, but if pressed, maybe the epsilon.. But from memory, a.big age difference which is always a factor in wines. I am very happy with both .

I have opened a bottle tonight and I am enjoying it. It is not as well developed as the 2013, but still a good drop. I will be hanging on to mine as a pleasant quaffer. I am sure I wouldn't do better for the price if I wandered into a bottlo on a Friday evening.
