Vinomofo Wine Deals

can you give us a little winedrinkers review about the lunatiq as many are fond of it and I am yet to try. possibly in comparison to a neighbour as well. cheers
I don't know winespeak but it is a typical cool climate shiraz probably similar to Langi cliff edge shiraz, seems to have quality oak and needs a good decanter. As stated the cork version has developed a lot earlier than the screw so smoother and more integrated. Beautiful mix of dark and red fruits and only lightly spiced. Even similar to a young chalambar shiraz but not as heavy or spicy on the palate. I had with teriaki chicken stir fry and matched well. The stand out is the quality of the oak. Hope that helps. I used to be a fan of big barossa shiraz but over the years have swung toward cool climate lighter styles of which this one fits the bill nicely. Also become very attached to McLaren Vale reds recently. (different fruit spectrum to Barossa) I guess palates change as you age. If I compared to say the 2011 glenlofty shiraz the glenlofty seems heavier and overoaked to my palate but still enjoyable after aeration (maybe less quality oak or staves or chips used) and I think thats why a lot of the punters prefer the Glenlofty SV as the V makes it a lot more mellow wine.

Not sure if I should post this here, so tell me if not and I'll remove it, but I use WineStar to buy from occasionally and they have a decent deal at the moment for Wolf Blass Red Label Shiraz Cabernet 2013 at $107.88/dozen delivered.

As they describe it:

- Gold Medal ~ Royal Sydney Wine Show 2015
- (95 Points ~ Royal Sydney Wine Show 2015 )
- Gold Medal ~ Royal Perth Wine Show 2015
- Gold Medal ~ China Wine & Spirits Awards Best Value 2015
- Silver Medal ~ National Wine Show of Australia 2014
- 90 Points ~ Royal Queensland Wine Show 2014

Only just bottled, the 2013 Red Label saluted when it was shown at the biggest and most prestigious wine competition in China last year. Domestically, it scored 90 Points at Royal Queensland which earned it a spot at the National Wine Show where it won a Silver Medal, the same result for another now famous Shiraz Cab, the Barry Bros. Once it settled in the bottle, it then began achieving even greater results. A Gold Medal at Royal Perth, a Gold Medal at the 2015 China Awards and most recently a massive 95 Points and Gold Medal at one of Australia's biggest shows, Royal Sydney. In fact, it is worth noting the Royal Sydney gong was in an open - not commercial class. Indeed it was beaten to the Trophy by one point!

I figure for $9 it's worth a shot, even if it's just a quaffer :)

Winestar are a nice bunch of fellas, old st bernards boys if I am not wrong. A mate buys a lot from there. Now, simon I assume, it's notes like yours that really give us something. Not in terms of saving money, but in terms of going out and buying something that is very affordable(cheap) to test out all the other wine show judges results. This baby has more medals than my old grandfather, however his were metal and not stuck on. I will definitely be buying one of these today to assess over the weekend. Why bother with a case when your local Dan's has it under a tenner. As far as a quaffer is concerned, if some humbled judge or rather judges rated it a bees thimble from a trophy in an open category, we should SERIOUSLY have some amazing shiraz fruit going on here. I hope other can do the same in the next few days and report in with a fantastic assessment like Hylands above. Salute !

I did have a look at Dan's but it's the 2014 they have as far as I can tell. I assume the 2013 was a standout as the last part of the Winestar email was:

"As one can imagine, since these gongs the wine has been selling off the handle. The disclaimer here is our price of $8.99 is based on dozen lots but that includes delivery to most and absolutely vintage 2013 specific!"

I bought a case anyway so I'll be able to say how it is next week all going well :)

Probably better in this thread:

$9 seems a lot for this wine, especially when you need to buy 12 to get the free postage with WineStar. Often see it under $8 for a single bottle.

Glenlofty Shiraz is back "one last time" for those who missed out before. I got the 2011 (was different, but not my thing) and chose to pass on the 2012. Never got to try the SV.

Also, Vinomofo posts with individual referrals are no longer permitted on OzBargain - see https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/206929 - so expect those posts to go away pretty darn quick. Summarising:

"Due to an increasing number of issues and incidents related to Vinomofo deals and referrals, we will no longer be allowing Vinomofo referral links within the deal. We had concerns that these issues were taking away from the community/sharing spirit that we wish to uphold on OzBargain and as such this change was made."

Is the current BM Sav Blanc 2014 from Pemberton the Pemberley? I know they had it recently but I missed it.

Worth getting? The glen lofty that is

Opinions vary - check the thread for some users' thoughts (last 3-5 pages). If you can get it with $50 first order referral it's probably a no-brainer. The 2011 was very umm "peppery" to me. Fairly light bodied for a shiraz. Not sure how the 2012 varies.

And yes it's the Black Market Shiraz for $7.80

The Glenlofty Shiraz isn't bad, it's certainly a little inferior compared to their SV but in my newbie opinion it should improve in a couple of years.

Bought another case and will leave that one alone for some time.

Good quaffer at this price. I prefer the 2012 shiraz on offer today to the 2012 SV. Touch of white pepper on first opening. Good fruit and acid drive. Just ordered some more. Will try to cellar some this time!;)

Looks like the Atlas 32 cab malbec. I saw a couple of past comments on previous vintage which indicate that it is not bad for the price. Any other thoughts?

Atlas is a 5 Red Star Halliday perhaps Jeanneret? I would need to see reviews before buying as they are a bit hit and miss, but can always send back. 7/10 vintage for clare reds. They aren't giving too much away. For me ABV is one of the most important criteria so can't take a punt without that info. If its what I think it is it usually runs at around 15% alc so its a "no" till further identified. Just don't risk VM anymore unless I know for sure !

The 2011 Cab Malbec was on at $12.90 down from $27. Drinking very well at the moment (actually I don't have much left!) So to get it for $8.10 is definitely worth thinking about.

Too much grey for me to buy, that's if its what I suspect it is. They aren't giving too much away. For me ABV is one of the most important criteria so can't take a punt without that info.

There's a chance you're right it is Jeanneret but there are a few things missing. The Atlas 32 fits the price perfectly and yes it is 5 star JH winery which fits the Black Market Deal. Jeanneret has a Leo's garden but the price doesn't match for the 2012 and it's got more merlot than malbec in it: a few numbers (Leo's Garden 2012)...Alcohol: 14.5% pH: 3.88 TA: 6.4556% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 7% http://jeanneretwines.com/wp-conten...eret-Leos-Garden-12-Cab-Sav-Tasting-Notes.pdf

On the other hand Jeanneret was a JH Dark Horse and Atlas wasn't but apparently the winemaker was a Reilly's Wines which was a Dark Horse winner.
