tragic ;) :D

That was a trial flight for a EK F run to Mauritius with the Ms for MY birthday. And yes the shower is big (has a seat) as is the whole shower facility. Just the hot water is limited to 5 minutes unless you talk to the FA.

In all honesty I doubt it will last a month due to there being a predetermined "cap" on how many people VA is willing to match :(

I think your best bet is to match now :)

Thanks, Noob, for your reply. I think I will enrol hubby for Gold with VA status match now. Hubby won't get his Plat with QFF until mid-October, and the promo may be over then :( When I get Gold with QFF in 3 weeks time, if the promo is still running, I will enrol myself for Gold with VA. Fingers crossed? I don't think Silver worths much.

Sadly, for me, OH and I think VA, this status match just ain't going to do it.

We are in the category of early planners. I have all our planned travel booked for the next 11 months. Mostly it is on OW partners. It will be enough for OH and me to maintain WP status, already having LTG. So if I was to seek the status match I would not use it to any meaningful extent in the next 12 months. If I was to start booking future travel with VA and partners, we'd be travelling after the Plat status had expired.

I'd much prefer a status match about January/February so that I could make use of it and have a chance to maintain the status beyond the complimentary 12 months. I guess I can ask VA at that time if they'd status match before I do my next set of bookings. No indiction they'd even consider that though it is clearly benefical to both them and us. Somehow, I think I'll be the one who stays with QF.

I did the status match in the BNE Lounge on Friday night. It only took around 5 minutes to complete. I took a quick look at the clipboards and there did not appear to be many names listed which does not really mean anything and they may have started a new running sheet.

You might want to read the rules carefully. You will be awarded the exact same SC's as if you'd flown direct. On VA SC's are awarded Origin to destination (although the "by sector" rule still applies to many partners). You may want to rejig that as a direct fight is you're chasing the SCs!
And that is not a good glitch in the system.

How about if I booked and flew separately BNE-SYD, SYD-MEL and MEL-OOL all in the one day. Would I only get credit for BNE-OOL which is not even a valid sector?

My understanding is one ticket it would be as the crow flies = the miles; 2 tickets, for EACH of those, as the crow flies. So BNE SYD MEL would earn like BNE MEL. What you describe would earn BNE SYD; and SYD MEL; and MEL OOL.

No, storyteller is right. It is per separate ticket. Personally i have no problem with it. This would credit as 3 flights providing you didn't somehow book them as a single BNE-OOL itinerary.

Surely you know the type to which I refer. If you dont have a suit and tie on (I dont even own a tie), then they glare at you, and just eyeball you with the death stare "How dare you enter my exclusive domain"

lol I know exactly the type you mean!

I love walking into the QP on a Friday afternoon in jeans and a t-shirt, and then strolling past everyone sitting there in suits to enter the J-lounge - some of the looks are priceless!

In fact, I think you get more looks of distain from those in the QP than those in the J-lounge!

a) Has anyone had their status online changed?
b) Does anyone know how flights taken between being matched (ie in the lounge) and status being upgraded will be handled? Retrospective update on the points, or does the real status only start when sorted out online?

Therein lies the weakest link with this promotion. Loads of QF PS, SG, WP members get their status matched, decide to give DJ a go instead of their regular cityflyer milk runs and are confronted - like I was last week - with the DJ of old. "Good evening ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls" and "no smoking in the toirrrrlettts" and other PA atrocities. Pally joking and frankly irritating giggling and high camp antics (I can say that; I'm gay) among crew as they did their sales run down the aisle. All this on a weeknight flight full of suits who would have really quite liked a drink without having to scratch around for coins to buy one when they've already paid a fare that was comparable to QF.

I'm surprised at this. I haven't seen this sort of thing on DJ for over 4 months. What route were you flying?

Yes, but do you know just how much these jeans cost? :):D

Expensive, and obviously attractive, jeans aside, back to the topic at hand....

... just got my new (temporary) three month Virgin GOLD CARD in my wallet. Thanks Virgin, so much. it will definitely push me to buy many more flights with you now.

Had to fly to Melbourne this morning really bl..y early (working on Sunday is just plain wrong), but having an hour or so before my first meeting I wondered over to Virgin terminal and went to the lounge there. The rep there was completely pleasant and enthusiastic about my "I've heard a rumour about a status match", and got me all sorted on the spot. Easy. "Oh, and as a gold, you have anytime access to our lounges". Stick that up your pipe, QF!

So, about to enjoy my second barista made coffee this morning, thanks! Was in the QF J lounge this morning, and no barista coffee there on a Sunday, lame.

Thanks again, Virgin. :):):):):)

Hi Myrna, silver is worth more than red!

It allows priority checkin, screening (at least at some lounges, BNE for example) and discounted lounge membership, which makes it well and truly worthwhile to have if you fly often by yourself (or with another red pax or kids). If you fly pretty much only with your "hubby", then your stategy sounds spot on to me!

As a WP, you would be matched to Platinum.

If you did not re-qualify Platinum, Velocity has a 'soft landing' and you would have Gold status fore the following year.

So to status match today would give at least two years of lounge access.

I must admit, I have no problem with this either. As much as SC runs sounded like a bit of fun, I've no doubt the "fun" would wear thin very quickly. I like getting where I intend going quickly and also the per sector awarding was making gold (and now Plat) look ridiculously easy to attain (I think gowatson got gold down to about $1400, at one point if that were to be the case, down from what it was previously, before the SC changes, @ $9000).

Did anybody know they actually set up a stand at Westfield Sydney this week to promote Velocity and process status matches.

Even managed to fit in one of those long white bars that glow purple.

They should have had the toaster on show as well, on the top of a large purple lit pedestal with a fog machine.
