Vaccine Rollout in Australia - personal accounts.

I heard on the ABC last night that Calvary had been booked solid now until sometime in June. We registered online on 4 May and had the 'invitation to book' an hour later. At that time, slots were wide open this week and forward. I think we were very lucky to have got in early.
If so, I will drive to the Sydney showground one. I take it this a NATIONAL vaccination drive and you are not locked into state borders. The implication follows that $30 per shot fee will be collected by NSW health, plus some other money, while Calvary will miss out on easy revenue. Naturally when I drive to Sydney I spend $400 or so, thus ACT misses out on $40 GST tax as well. (and the employment aspect -restaurants , shops, supermarkets, and a buy-up at Flemmington fruit and veggie markets). As Canberra mechanics want $160-$240 per hour, I also take my car to Granville to get serviced, leaving Costco on a full tank. This is why little annoyances like not updating a booking announcement - lead to avoidable revenue loss. Or the time I dropped $5000 at RPA Private.

For those of you who had the Pfizer vaccination at Olympic Park, can you share what paperwork you have to bring to prove you are part of 1B? My doctor asked me to get the shot and gave me a letter, is that sufficient?

If you are 1b you should have already received the booking link. Then you make a booking and advising which group you belong to.

Once done you need to bring your driver's license as well as your QR code. I bought my NSW Health staff pass just in case today.

You need to make a pre booking to go into Sydney Olympic Park one. If you are eligible you should have received the booking link. You cannot go there without a pre booking.

I’m eligible for Pfizer under 1b. I’ve been checking the vaccine eligibility checker for Victoria which until now has said they are only doing priority groups. I re-checked just now and it says “eligible” please use booking button below. This will show you locations of Pfizer Clinics in Victoria which it seems can only be booked via the Coronavirus hotline at the moment. I will be calling at 8am on the dot tomorrow morning

Thanks for the heads up, I am based in VIC but booked in NSW as it is not available in VIC. I will try to call and rebook in VIC tomorrow too if possible.

Did you need to bring a health summary from your GP?
No. But I have no health issues.

There was a list of health related issues. None was an issue for me.

My wife is on a high blood pressure medication, but if you are only taking one that is not a problem.

Slightly sore at injection area - no other issues.
Started getting mild chills and muscle ache 8pm last night. Drank plenty of fluids and went to bed early. Somewhat restless sleep but used extra linen to stay warmer.

Had a headache this morning with the chills gone and muscle ache receding.

Feel much better now.

We had our AZ shots about 2 hours ago. Unsurprisingly, no side effects yet. My wife got a fair few aches and pains from her 'ordinary' flu shot a month ago so she is anticipating the same for this one. I normally get no reaction to the flu shot so I guess Sod's Law means that I will get a big one from this shot.

I've been "vaccination hesitant". When I last saw my haematologist in January, she suggested that I should get a Pfizer vaccine. Of course magnificent government vaccination ordering and rollout changed recommendations in the meantime.

I saw my haematologist on Tuesday again: she said "real-world evidence suggests no difference in protection, get the AZ vax, premed yourself with Panadol and just do it! - as all of us here have done". Tried to book a vax but was on hold for ages so I gave up.

Yesterday morning I rocked up at Jeff's Shed at 8.25am (opens/starts at 8.30am), was second in walk-up queue. Staff warned us that walk-ups were not seen till after 9am until appointees were accommodated.

So of course we were admitted at 8.35am :). Paperwork complete (only wanted driver's licence and medicare card) in a few minutes and straight into a cubicle. All was going swimmingly until I was asked to list current medication (Atacand, Eliquis, Revlimid). Nurse called over a doctor and I was given a physical examination and consultation (having had five PEs and two DVTs since diagnosis). All ok, I got my vaccine at 9.12am and was out the door at 9.32am.

Felt drowsy yesterday afternoon and fell asleep at my desk, then was ok. Drama with #3 son's holiday occupied the evening but slept like a log through my alarm this morning. No pain in my arm at all, no headaches, fever, lethargy at all - so far.

All very slick and well organised from what I could see. They look as if they could vaccinate '000s per day.

Mrs SS works at a Sydney hospital and had her first AZ a few weeks ago at their staff vaccination hub. Her employer is now offering adult family members of staff the vaccine, AZ for over 50s and PF for under 50s. I am in 2a so have been trying to get vaccinated (local clinic saying May 24 onwards) but this is a welcome opportunity for the 2 cygnets (early 20s) to advance in the queue.

Not sure the reasoning for the offer but it could be a push by NSW Govt and also an attempt to reduce Pfizer wastage.

It seems a practical and sensible proposal to me to vaccinate not only frontline workers, but also their families and close contact persons to set up a "ring defence" against further transmission and thus limit spread into the community.

I think it also is a nice reward for those taking more risk, and in many cases more inconvenience and disruption to their lives..

I woke up in the middle of the night with joint and back pains. Today I feel tired and generally achy, especially in the back and hips. No soreness in the arm. My wife has come down with 'flu symptoms' and a very sore arm. So pretty much the standard reactions - when they occur.

No bike riding today.

I joined the AZ club on Monday. Booked in at one of Melbourne's mass vaccination clinics. Very smooth, professional, and organised. Was out within an hour - I know because I had to pay for only 1 hour parking!

48 hours later, my arm is still a bit tender. Otherwise all normal so far...
Well, 4 days after the vaccination my arm is still tender and I'm not feeling great. No muscle aches, but am feeling cold (Melbourne weather doesn't help!) and have a low-grade headache. The way I describe it is that I feel as though I have a minor hangover!

Happy Friday! You may as well have a drink or two... Is it allowed? (I'd like to know when it's finally my turn)

Largely mirrors my experience. Although day 3 could have been an actual hangover.

I sort of felt like that yesterday morning about 19 hours after the jab.

Been on the Wagon this week (from 2 days prior) and will be into next. Gotta give the Liver every chance to generate those antibodies ...

If you get vaccinated at Jeff's shed, staff validate your parking ticket so there's no charge.
Unfortunately they don't "validate" mykis.

I took my son for his first covid vax today. He is in 1B and had his initial appointment at our GP cancelled as he was too young for AZ.
Went to the local hospital hub today and had the rock star treatment!! Might have been his special needs or his awesome Simpsons T shirt but either way we were absolutely stoked. No effects so far except his arm is a little bit sore,

We are both much improved over yesterday - just as the GP predicted - probably 99% back to, what we would consider, normal. My wife still has a sore-ish arm and I am a bit tired. The symptoms ended up being the full 'flu' type ones - tiredness, aches & pains, chills etc.
