An inexplicable item on the English version of a menu in a Portuguese cafe in Copacabana. We were lured into the establishment by a heaving case of Portuguese tarts visible through the window, unaware that the menu was offering more than we’d bargained for!


And a cloudy afternoon photo of Christ the Redeemer (for our sins??) a few hours later.

We were still feeling a bit tired today and decided to have a rest by catching a tram anywhere. I saw one was going to Eccles and my years of watching The Goon Show left me no choice. I also dreamt of a nice little bakery serving Eccles Cake.

My advice is unfortunately - don't bother. The term Urban Blight came to mind and not an Eccles Cake in sight. Luckily the day was saved by someone we met who suggested a visit the Lowry gallery half way back to town in a redeveloped wharf area on the Irwell River

Chester is lovely. A lot of what you see is Victorian era “Tudor theme park” but some is wonderful Tudor originals layered over the Roman city and walls!
