The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Have looked at the sheet, and fear it may be veeeeery out of date.

Anyone know of any good runs for the double SC promo? I know a friend who needs some top up SC's for her re-qual in June.

I'm doing the same thing, can't get anything near the prices on there :( I'll PM you if I find anything decent (and also update the spread sheet)
I'm trying to book a weekend trip.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Happy to be corrected, though the spreadsheet was of best value last year when they had the offer of earning SCs on Classic VA Reward redemptions, which is no longer true. You can still earn SCs on Any Seat Awards, though these are far from good value at all.

The best "Status Runs" per se, are probably going be through finding good Flexi fare routings for decent $$s (e.g. ADL-MEL-BNE-CNS for $664 in Y for 80 SCs) or good value J prices (e.g. CNS-BNE one way for $539 for 60 SCs). (Combine these with a valid Promo code to get a slight discount as well, if possible).

You can use a tool like Great Circle mapper to map VA's mileage ranges for various potential earning opportunities, and see what various via-routings are offered. This one is SYD-centred, though you can edit the parameters under "Ranges" to specify a different home port: Great Circle Mapper

On the SE coast an MEL/OOL via SYD round trip and vv can earn a base 80 SC's for $525 in flexi. (40 for $290 with saver-lite)

I have found SYD - HBA in J during May for $489 each way for 80 SC's (160 for DSC promo). Now just trying to find a promo code for May flights before end of DSC promo on 15 March. Anybody seen any?

Does anyone know if it is possible to make the connection between VA 725 and VA 730 when doing MEL-OOL-MEL ?
(8:15am arrival at OOL, 8:50am departure).

I am trying to decide if this is better than VA 1593 / VA 1594 MEL-NTL-MEL which is also a good earn for pts & hours spent in the air and I am pretty sure would be the same plane so no chance of missing the return connection :)

Just noticed a good route from a completely irrelevant thread..

PER/CNS via MEL one way 70 SC's (47 miles off 80 SC's :() for $394 in Flexi, that's 140 SC's with DCS.

If you got any comp business upgrades and need a status run, this route would be worth it! Coast to Coast flat bed baby!

Serfty's suggestion of MEL-OOL via SYD in Flexi would come in much cheaper than this, even if you added a Saver Lite positioning flight. You would be looking at $641 all up for 200SCs, this is only valid for travel on April 30 (complete the run in a day) as this is the only day the discount promo codes overlap with the DSC promo.

Thanks jneufeld, agree it's cheaper. Will checkout to see if it fits my tight scheduling. Need 240 SC's to maintain Plat by May 30 (after trip in April) but time for runs is very limited with work at present.

Yes, refer to this thread - however both of the two most recent codes supplied are only valid to 30 April IIRC. That thread will be updated with any further supplied codes.

I've been reviewing this and crunch numbers etc and.... basically now the best bang for buck is Mel ool via syd as adl seems to be gone.(seasonal?) Is this correct for someone based out of Mel?

You can still find OOL-ADL-MEL mid week. I haven't tried the reverse though.

Hey all, new to this.

Just confirming, is a Status Run going on flights you don't need to go on in order to get more Status Points?

As in, doing a round trip and not doing any sight seeing/business.

Pretty much.

It's commonly done to take advantage of a double status credit offer,. It's also common when you are close to going up a status level or want to boost your SC tally before the end of your review year.

You'll often see here that a person has to get xx status credits before a date (usually very soon!) so the answer often is a status run.

Are you MEL based - you can do the turnaround mid-week - and on Flexi - comes in at just on $500 for 100SC (much more enticing during DSC offer)

VA 211 MEL ADL 0710 0805
VA1447 ADL OOL 0850 1140
VA1448 OOL ADL 1215 1430
VA 228 ADL MEL 1510 1700

We are doing a variation, and only doing the OOLMEL via ADL one way - however, SYD based - so for the MELOOL via SYD - was able to overnight in SYD, at home, on the way back up and depart again the following morning. Can use either the flexi fare or business fare- still quite puzzling. Separately, MELSYD flexi - $296.70, then SYDOOL $202.70 - whereas on the 'through' fare - the total is only $273.13.

It's a shame this ADL version is not available on the weekends.
