In no particular order:

Peter I island (Antarctica)
Bukhara (on the silk road)
Tambopata Research Centre (Peruvian Amazon)

I hope this is not seen as heresy on the AFF site but for a fantastic change, try travelling from San Francisco to NY or Washington on Amtrak next time you have time and want to SEE the US. Four days of peace, great sights and an amazing cross-section of the US public as passengers (sorry, "riders") come and go. Food is good, accommodation good if you travel 1st class (not that expensive) and one of the best ways to see the variety of the US mainland.

1. Berlin
a) The museums located at northern end of the central island
b) The quiet room at the Brandenburg gate

2. Louvre, Paris

3. Kangaroo Island SA, in particular, the western half
