The Kimberley is also fantastic (another advert for WA) we did a cruise between Darwin and Broome aboard the Oceanic Discoverer of Coral Princess Cruises last year, a real highlight - afterwards we did a side trip to Purnululu NP (the Bungle Bungle) for a couple of days, absolutely amazing.

1. Finnish Lapland - Went there to try and catch the Aurora Borealis. Alas, it didn't make an appearance. Nevertheless, it was an amazing adventure!
2. Crayfish Beach (Hook Island) - Camped here for a week with a bunch of friends. Wonderful time.
3. Berlin - I love this city.

Top 3 Things To Do:
1. Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail.
2. Petra, Jordan.
3. Climb Mount Fuji and watch the sunrise.

I hope this is not seen as heresy on the AFF site but for a fantastic change, try travelling from San Francisco to NY or Washington on Amtrak next time you have time and want to SEE the US. Four days of peace, great sights and an amazing cross-section of the US public as passengers (sorry, "riders") come and go. Food is good, accommodation good if you travel 1st class (not that expensive) and one of the best ways to see the variety of the US mainland.
