Hi to everyone...

A little bit of disapointing news... Flight Centre Limited has decided to end the RewardPass program at COB 19 January 2006.

The program was running for approx 13 months. It has not been able to bring enough benifits when compared to the cost of the program.

18 January 2006

MESSAGE TO REWARDPASS MEMBERS

I write to personally advise you of a change in our business that will see Flight Centre Limited disband the RewardPass program and instead focus on customer relationship initiatives like Price Beat Guarantee that offer more immediate benefits to travellers.

This decision comes after a comprehensive review of RewardPass, which was launched in December 2004 as an additional benefit for customers. It is effective from the close of business on January 19, 2006, but you will be able to redeem your entitlement for up to 12 months as outlined later in this correspondence.

While RewardPass has many great features, including free membership, it will not deliver short-term benefits to the overwhelming majority of customers. Flight Centre Limited also incurs significant costs and does not want to pass these on to customers.

As a company, Flight Centre Limited strives to provide you with exceptional service and the best possible travel deals. We believe there are better avenues to provide this than through RewardPass.

The expansion of the Flight Centre brand’s Price Beat Guarantee is an example. Rather than simply beating our competitors’ airfare prices, this expansion means we now invite you to “bring us a competitor’s quote and if it’s available we will beat it”. This includes cruises, tours, accommodation, holiday packages, car hire and other travel products available at Flight Centre shops.

Your Entitlements and How to Redeem You will soon receive details on your entitlement, along with your unique Redemption Code. Your entitlement is, of course, available to you and can be used within the next 12 months as full or part payment for any available product at any Flight Centre Limited leisure travel shop.

Redemption is simple. All you need to do is present your personal letter – with your unique Redemption Code – to your Flight Centre Limited travel consultant when you are ready to book. Your entitlement will be deducted from the cost of your holiday.

As mentioned, entitlements can be redeemed within the next 12 months.

I guess it is a little dissapointing for those who were collecting these points.

What did people think of the program? Did anyone get to redeem any points?

Edited to correct Poll.

Unfortunately (or otherwise) the nearest Flight Centre is many Klms away so they don't get my business. Whilst the scheme appeared OK from my limited research it was just not a practical option for me. 8) 8) 8)

Bye Bye Rewardpass.

Never earnt any points. Never used any points.

My feelings on them have been documented here before.

Interesting that I just drove down town and there was an ad on the radio for the scheme and no mention of a windup.

Left Hand, Right Hand. Pre-booked media committments.

I'm sure you'll see the ad slots changed to "Price Beat Offer". Don't know how they can price beat a domestic fare on the Qantas site, but hey if they really want to...

Don't know how many points I have but when last I asked before spending $17k on tickets I had enough to redeem $250 worth of travel stuff...

Have yet to redeem anything but guess I should start to seriously think about it now.

Never used it and had no intention of using it (unless significantly improved).

In the limited experience I had with Flight Centre, they either quoted directly off the airline's website, or gave a price that I could easily beat myself. So I never spent any money with them - therefore no points.

Whilst i have no probelm with flight centre ending their program, i take a disliking to companies who make major changes and have them take effect immediately or with very limited notice.

I believe such changes should be given with about at least three months notice. At least when your bank decides to start points capping your credit card they give you around three months notice.

Given the fairly short life of this program, it clearly wasn't thought through very well.

To be fair to flight centre the majority of travel agents these days just quote off the QF website. I wanted return flight SYD-MEL-SIN for April and the itinerary and fare appears on QF website. One travel agent was more expensive than QF website, 2 (including flight centre) were the same and another was a few dollars cheaper. To Flight Centre's credit they said I can have a $20 discount because the fare was available on the QF website. I know it's not much but still a good gesture.

As for reward pass I looked into it a few months back and never appealed to me as I don't fly often enough to make it worthwhile.

Yes, I got the letter today and my enormous points balance (5,637) gives me a value of $45.10. Now just where am I going to spend that? Well, at least I have 12 months to think about it.

I only used them before I had a 9* travel agency (whose terms are a lot better :D ).

Mine was ~zip~, so I'm having no trouble with not thinking about it. 8)

I received an e-mail a week ago stating I had a final points balance of 4,262 with $34.10 value. I wasn't expecting anything because I thought you could only redeem once you'd accumulated 5,000 points... Never look a gift horse in the mouth, I was oft told - I'm sure it'll part pay for some taxes and levies for my next domestic trip. 8)
