Another data point on this subject re: row 44.
Brilliant is all i can say. Was fortunate enough to have the entire row to myself on QF17 the other day and needless to say had the best transcon Y experience yet with a solid 7 hours sleep.
Upon checking in at the counter the agent asked if I was aware I had selected a row with no recline. I confirmed with her which seat (44G) to which she confirmed had no recline. I balked and said no I'm sure it has recline, the same as other Y seats (as per Captain Halliday's most excellent reconnaissance mission) and decided to stick with it based on the information here and not the agent.
Glad I did as row 44 is brilliant, more so if your preference is forward aisle and you don't like the immovable armrests aka row 43 and the recline is exactly as discussed in this thread.
