QF Y front row 747 - row 43 on new 3 Class config.

Hey gang,

Currently allocated 43K on the new config 747 for Saturdays flight to DFW.
Never been in this row before and just read that it has limited recline. How restricted is it?

Also is the leg room enough to get out without disturbing the other passengers too much? Or will they need to stand to let you out?

First row i thought should be good, designed for premium customers no less - usually,

we would appreciate an update once you have flown.

I may actually be way off with the recline thing since the reconfigured 747 isn't on seatguru. Some of the 747 configs there list limited recline in that row and some don't.
I can't imagine it would be too bad; the WPs would never shut up

This seat is fantastic! I was on QF7 SYD-DFW in 43K on the 30th June. There's a bulkhead in front of you with about 1m of leg room (I could fully stretch out at 193cm). I didn't notice any reduction in recline. Note that to your left is the bassinet area so bring some earplugs.

I agree. I was in 43H (aisle) last week DFW-BNE. The recline is similar to the other economy rows. Leg room is fine. The passenger in 43K could get out without disturbing me (43J was empty).

So you wouldn't recommend 44? We have 44 D-G as a family of 4. Weren't keen on 43 as we want to lift all the arm rests. If its not 44, then it doesn't really matter which row I guess as far as rows of four go?

I was able to get over both easily. Just grab the overhead panel and you'll be fine.

44D-G is pretty ordinary, but with only 2 rows together it can be a bit quieter than further back. it goes (Bulkhead)-43-44-toilet. Also the bassinet is in front of 43 so bring earplugs for the screaming children.

What's wrong with ordinary? =D I would personally prefer a seat in 44 over 46-55 or whatever the massive group is. Having only two rows grouped together makes it nice and cosy.

Well I can report that it's a very nice seat. No limit on recline and lots of legroom.
I liked it so much I selected it on the way back as well. This time the middle was empty and that was fantastic!
The bulkhead curves away from you down the bottom to give good leg stretching space - At 5'9 I'm able to fully stretch out
Relatively easy to get out without disturbing others, even easier with the middle seat empty of course.
Got a second pillow on the second leg and got a good 10 hours sleep. Only woken occasionally by the person behind me punching the seat - turns out they were in fact playing sudoku on the IFE. Qantas really needs to run an education campaign informing passengers that it's a touch screen.

Well we have returned from our QF7/8 adventures. New config both legs.

QF7 we had 44DEFG. Recline was fine however not sure if it is slightly less than standard? Nice and dark due to light positions. No real noise from toilet (flushing or PAX). Leg room in D/G is terrible due seat design combined with AV system and bulkhead seat. Would be awkward if travelling alone and not being able to share E/F leg space. No foot net (which I was disappointed with, I have read of peoples complaints, however I used to like them when they were around years ago, or on CX I think it was more recently). Generally great seats for a family.

QF8 we had 44DEFG & 44HJK for the 4 of us (glad the U/G didn't come through in the end, saved 280k points!). The toilet light on the starboard side would not dim when the door was opened (happened on both flights, however QFsource seems to indicate different aircraft so not sure if it is a common ailment). This meant that sitting in HJK, whenever PAX entered/left the WC, then the light levels increased dramatically, which did get a little annoying in the middle of the night. Did not happen on the port side or any of the other WC's (where the light only comes on once the door is locked). PAX noise however was not an issue. The ambient night time light levels in HJK were also noticeably higher than DEFG due to the positioning of the seatbelt signs.

Looking at row 43 there didn't seem to be a lot of legroom, however this may have been deceiving given the previous post.

Agree, but 43D/G are the way to go if you can get them. Had 43H and while the leg room depth is great it is probably two-thirds the width of what D/G have because the edge of the cutout is right in front of you. The aisle bends inward coming out of PE so your can actually see all the way through to the front of the plane from 43H, and crew who burst through the curtain from PE can bump into you if they're not careful. Otherwise not a bad seat, but definitely be prepared with a set of ear plugs due to the bassinet position.

Sounds like 43H (or 43C) is the way to go on these aircraft. Would love 43D, 43G but these are bassinets so will not be possible until late in the check-in process.

I have pre-allocated 43H for 2 upcoming flights and keen to try them out. Will go down the back and check out 60H while I am there as well.

Keen to hear what 60H is like - I keep forgetting to take a look.

I had 43H booked at T-80 a couple of weeks ago, then at about T-60 43E/F/G became available too. I jumped on 43G and was awfully pleased with myself until I got to the airport and was told there'd been an aircraft change and my original seat allocation was gone. Thankfully I was given 38D, so same deal (bulkhead, aisle) but older aircraft (OJJ). So while I can say that 43D/G do sometimes become available, how much of that is to do with an aircraft change is anyone's guess.

Had 43A last night and was impressed with the room, pretty much three windows of space up top (although there are only two actual windows) and the cut out below allows for a good stretch, only downside versus the upper deck first row of Y in a 380 is the screens are in the seat as well as tray tables, with the 2 seater in the a380 the armrest is removable.

The only other issues is the proximity to the bassinets which can result in last minute seating changes and the odd bit of noise.

Had 43J/K and 44H/J/K QF108 JFK-LAX (VH-OEF) on 21st Feb and it was fine. I noticed that 44 has the crew jump-seats behind so that might be why they say there's limited recline but it seemed to be fine according to my wife apart from the the mis-aligned window. Row 43 had plenty of room and being 190cm I had plenty of leg-room and having Ms10yo seated in K gave me plenty of room to get in/out as needed.

(for some reason the passengar in H got upped part-way through the flight so we had the other seat to sprawl on...)

Row 43 is good, best of the coach rows. But yes, beware infants allocated to this row as well. Lucky last week there were none on my flight.
