Ebays loss. People will continue to trade in the passes and other goods that ebay bans. Hello SilkRoad for example. There you can buy pretty much anything from guns to drugs etc....maybe even QP passes ;)

What a load of Bulldust...

Plenty of passes available on gumtree - qantas club | Free Local Classifieds Gumtree Australia

Wow. I had no idea there was such a huge market for passes.

If it's really bad, perhaps Qantas needs to consider issuing them against a FF membership. The owner can then call QF and have them assigned to an existing reservation of whoever the traveller is. At the lounge of choice, the traveller's reservation is retrieved and the 'one complimentary lounge pass credit' deleted.

That's pretty much what Virgin do with the free silver pass from memory

The point is it isn't bad, its one pass, only one person can use it, whether its who got it originally or who they pass or sell it to... No hordes descending on the lounges... Frankly if someone wants to give/sell it to someone else, what business is it of anyone's here, not sure why any (except maybe Qantas the samaritans) are so worked up about it...

Similar to selling points, as long as they aren't shonky, who cares if someone who has points and someone who needs points can come to an arrangement??? Good on them??? As i said if conning people and then not providing points then yes that's a problem... But not sure why people would be reporting them???

Of course if eBay bans them then Gumtree will be the next spot people will go as I'm sure that is much less visible and regulated...

The passes/lounges can be run however Qantas want them to be run.

If they don't want people selling passes then so be it

I'm traveling in October with JQ to Singapore before going to London. We have the mother in law with us so QC membership can't get us all in to the lounge, buying two passes for around $100 is a great alternative to the cost ($320) of joining my wife as a partner member for sake of 3-4 flights for the year.

that's fine, and the new passes seem to have that printed on them. But the old ones don't. Can't change the rules for those that have already (contractually) received them.

Look at the AA monthly lounge ticket/pass. May or may not be applicable

Of course, if travel is all QF or AA it may can be better to purchase an American Airlines 30-day membership for USD99.

This gives access for the member plus one guest to all available Qantas Clubs, Qantas International Business lounge and AA Admirals clubs before embarking on any QF or AA flight for the 30 days.

Oh they can if they want too, considering the passes were given away for free, QF could cancel them all if they wanted.

Also from memory the passes state to be used in conjunction with the T&C's of the Qantas club available via the website

Now I assume 'Guest Pass' includes complimentary passes as well, going off the Qantas T&C's

Just because a company does something you don't like doesn't make it illegal/wrong/discrimination etc etc

'Guest Pass' means a pass issued at the discretion of Qantas permitting entry to a lounge and/or use of Qantas Club facilities by a non-Member on such terms and conditions as Qantas may determine and includes Annual Guest Cards.

"6.2 The Card and any Guest Pass issued are and will remain the property of Qantas and must be returned on demand or on termination of membership, whichever happens first. A Card or Guest Pass must not be sold or copied by any person except Qantas."

Commiserations about the JQ bit - of course, if it were all QF it may have been better to purchase an American Airlines 30-day membership for USD99.

Thanks for the tip regarding AA, will pass that on to two friends I'm going to Orlando with in Feb 14

In all honesty I don't mind JQ for the Perth to Singapore trip, its cheap, has more choices than QF and we've done it enough times to know what to expect. Kids sleep if we get the 12.05am flight up there so no need for IFE or food.

Going two weeks before for the GP with my wife and JQ cost us $520 return all in, QF wanted $700 plus each.

QF should be around $550 each if you know where to book ;), and includes $100 worth of points, baggage etc etc

Must have been looking in the wrong place , but its still $1,100 versus $520, that's a big difference on a 5 hour trip.

It's interesting Ebay have rolled over on this one, considering many items are often labelled as being not for resale, but still appear. I had two of mine pulled of ebay last month too. I sold, well tried to sell to recoup the costs of the credit card that i got them through and doubly justified it as I had to book an EK flight out of Adelaide that to get ticketed as QF cost $500 more per person. It meant I couldn't use the passes. In the end I gave them to a friend. There clearly has to be some corporate relationship between the two companies, just because qantas have written not for resale on the card doesn't make it illegal, so you'd have to question the motives behind the move. Someone messaged me after the sale with a tip though: If you do want to sell them on ebay just do it with a very short auction time, QF/ebay only routinely check every few days.

Pretty poor comparison really IMHO. Silk Road operates on 'the undernet' and is only accessible via TOR. In addition, purchases have to be made with bitcoins, which in itself is a currency (so you're already 'playing the market'). It's not a case of clicking and buying, there's some serious leg work involved to access it, and then of course, it's dodgy.

Of course, they could pretty much restrict this heavily by offering single use day passes like AA/NZ and various other airlines do. $55 or so for a pass for a visit. It won't knock out the market for third party vouchers, but it'll cut back (and make QF cash).

Footnote: I don't believe in selling of single use vouchers for lounges, that's what Priority Pass is for.

With the AA month pass its even better that in the US you don't even have to be flying AA, as long as you have a ticket on any carrier to get you airside its pretty much any time access, on arrival and departure.... Several times i accessed an Admiral's Club while flying a different airline...

a guest pass is distinct from an 'invitation' (as it is described on the silver benefits page) and by the terms and conditions of the qantas club they cannot be one and the same thing...

a 'guest pass' must be returned on demand or on the termination of membership... which ever happens first. it is entirely possible NOT to be a member, in indeed to cease to be a member of the qantas club, yet still be issued with an invitation ... therefore they cannot be the same thing.

anyway moot point now for the new passes ... but I think the old ones were free from said restriction.

qantas was more than happy to stand back for a year while hundreds of first class lounge passes were sold on eBay.
