Qantas taking Qantas Club vouchers off eBay!

A few (5?) years I did receive a couple of the counterfeit QC passes via an eBay auction.

The pass worked at BNE Int lounge on the way out of the country but was spotted and denied entry in SIN.

I lodged a dispute and received the money back from Paypal.

Certainly they would be more interested in closing down the counterfeits more than the legit transfers.

My dealings with Ebay have resulted in experiences where the real reason is often not reflected in their correspondence for numerous instances, no different to experiences with Manilla call centres for other organisations and their reasons. I have even seen them misstate reasons for giving your info to the ATO, its common. I have also been on the other side where I have asked Ebay to shut down aucitons of product that were counterfit, the email sent mentioned trademark issues :)
Ebay aren't always accurate or complete in their dealings. Whether this is intentional or just crossed wires, I don't know. In this case, I suspect someone was lazy. The best source for terms and conditions is Qantas, rather than eBay.

I've used these passes in the past and given them away. No problems reported either way.

But if they are not to be sold, then Qantas is within their rights to request that auctions be pulled. If the question of fraud or theft arises, with one seller apparently having a steady supply of these passes, then even more reason to crack down.

I'm sure QF don't want to create a black market in them, people start printing them on their home printers.

I have no issue with a crack down on selling them, they are for giving and a handy thing to give someone who might be flying to meet up with you somewhere.

Personally I wouldn't be bothered going to effort to put one on ebay for what, $30?

Define reasonable...

There are some items that are cheap enough but have horrendous shipping costs.

I think its obvious $60 for an envelope is unreasonable, don't you?

If you have a complaint about somebody's shipping costs you should contact ebay.

I am just saying...

I can't remember what I was browsing the other day, but it was a case of product being ~$1 and postage being $200 odd

the 'not for resale' bit must be new... the one I got a few months ago definitively didn't have that on it.

I got about $50 for it plus postage.

interesting newspaper article... qantas claiming not to know anything about it... I know FOR SURE that people wrote to qantas at the time because these sellers had like hundreds of passes for sale... they were obviously fakes. so there is no way qantas could not have been aware of the issue. but that is old news now.

but with a hologram in there... why not be allowed to sell them? qantas has given away a single lounge visit, so there is no additional cost to them who uses it.

it's a marketing tool for QF, not a way for people to make money off them. QF could just sell them direct themselves, then I'm sure people here would be screaming about it, possibly even some of those who think it's ok to sell something they have been given.

qantas do sell them. they did so last Christmas or whenever it was.

the new wording makes it clear they are not for resale, but prior to that I think it's fair game.

what about selling those electronic luggage tags? plenty of those floating around, probably even some people have bought for themselves but no longer need. selling of amenity kits and PJs? they're all things, like passes, given to pax that I don't really see why they can't be on sold if there's a market.

Do like the AFL with grand final tix , sell a pack of chewies with free gift QP access pass. Obviously this is legal !

They have been getting away with it for years

You can see why a company like Qantas, who is happy to gouge its customers at every opportunity (high fuel fines, high credit card fees at Jet*, phone fees charged when you can't use their website to book an award ticket because its so limited etc), would get so hot under the collar from some punter making a few bucks from selling their pass that they have often earned by using their own dollars...

they should have taken the same action against the ebayer who used to sell qf business class pajamas... 'worn once only and washed prior to sale'.

like you'd even bid for those with 50 other brand new sealed pairs on offer right below.

but going back to the original topic... the qf eBay section is pretty boring now... no points sales, no passes... but lots of rugby tickets? I thought that was illegal? anyone know what the mark-up is on them? I saw some for hundreds and some for thousands of dollars. I'm guessing they didn't cost that much retail?

eBay are a pack of *&#$#$'s. I've reported, to see what would happen, several sellers of QFF points before stating it's a violation of the QFF t's and c's.

Nothing happened. The auctions ended, with a successful bidder.

Of course QF may have ended up seeing this and canning the accounts of both buyer and seller, but still. eBay have terms, they choose to ignore them as they make so much cash by doing so.

Indeed!

I have reported many listings for violations of the T&C's and none have been removed. This would be over 100 listings over the past year or so.

As you have said Ebay want to sell anything/everything so they get their 10% cut and then another 2-4% for PayPal in most cases.

They have no interest in closing listings unless a major company reports it, such as say Qantas, or it is clearly illegal/offensive

I really despise Ebay for many reasons, and avoid them as much as possible. So much so that where possible I call/contact the seller directly to conduct the sale privately either online or via visiting their retail presence.

I really prefer to use Ebay to find what I want and then go directly to the company and purchase directly through them :) So I treat Ebay as an advertising source and nothing more

they removed a current (at the time) Qantas cabin crew uniform a few years ago. I actually thought that was a security issue and reported it. It was gone within the hour. I felt kinda bad for the seller. they obviously needed the cash :(

What a load of Bulldust...

Plenty of passes available on gumtree - qantas club | Free Local Classifieds Gumtree Australia

In May 2005, Gumtree was acquired by Kijiji, eBay’s internal classifieds group, for an undisclosed sum

So you cant sell them on Ebay, but you can on Gumtree....hmmm total BS...! Either you can sell them, or you can not...

Mods, please feel free to remove web links if not within AFF t&c's, however the link provides reference to the point that these passes are still available through ebay, just not through their main site.

As has been mentioned before, its not in Ebays interest to have listings removed as it costs them money, so they will be seen to be doing something when in fact its the minimum they think they need to do to placate corporations etc.
