Qantas removes Lounge Access for QP members on EK flights from Oct 1

Nobody seems to have considered the alternate point of view here and are making out that this is all the creation and fault of QANTAS.

What if this change is largely out of the control of QANTAS?
What if Emirates have forced it upon QANTAS?
What if Emirates have seen a flood of economy ticket holders without any QANTAS or Emirates status come barging into their lounges, eat all their free food, drink all their free booze, then board a flight? Are non Status Emirates economy passengers allowed to do this?

Perhaps Emirates have said that ALL non status passengers are to be treated equally, which would be in terms of the agreement, and that this therefore means that ALL non status economy passengers are denied access to their lounges.

I'm loyal to QANTAS, and happy to say so.

That's a very interesting point and may have more than a grain of truth to it.
I don't think the average QP member is likely to eat and drink more than anyone else though.

Then QF could probably wisely have put in the announcement somewhere that at the request ok EK the following changes are being made.... Or let it slipped out somewhere...

As it currently stands it just looks like another tight coughd 'enhancement' (BS QF vocab spin) which is quite easy to believe after several years of it now...

Yes. I have noticed that it happens with Fiji Air at the Brisbane Qantas Club. A 30 year membership meant zilch on the 23/7. A huge disappointment as we have always been allowed in :(

That's been the case for a long time.. always needed to be on a QF flight number to gain entry.

But they WILL eat and drink more than a non status Emirates economy passenger, because a non-status Emirates economy passenger can't get into the lounge!

True, but then the average EK passenger hasn't paid for QC membership expecting Lounge access (primarily) between Australia and London.

When QF tore up the JSA with BA and instigated the EK alliance, it was on the (general) basis that EK flights replacing BA flights would afford QC members the same access rights.

People took AJ at his word and shelled out money for membership on that basis.

A world-class partnership, far exceeding the JSA.

What utter bullsh*t that's proving to be as it slowly unravels, item by item, status benefit by purchased access by chauffeured car, by each passing week.

Meanwhile, EK continue to pick up the passengers QF abandoned to them out of PER, ADL etc. So long and thanks for all the fish!!

The final straw will be if the QF bottom line next month shows no improvement year-on-year.

BD

@ Syd T1 J lounge a dragon told a couple entering "you save a couple of hundred dollars booking the EK code but then all your money goes to the middle east and.Qantas gets none." talking up the partnership...

Non-status QP members are still allowed in, as long as they are on a QF codeshare. The only difference between being on a QF codeshare and an EK flight number is that QF make more money.

This change did not come from Emirates.

All this is still confusing. Doesn't worry me as I fly Bus Class overseas but feel for Adelaide flyers booking on Emirates and thinking they will get lounge access in DBX on their Q cards. Still no respite from QF for Adel flyers since they dumped international flights 6 years ago.

ADL wasn't dumped 6 years ago, more like 2. Also QC members might actually get lounge access in ADL if on the emirates flight. Adding emirates has actually been a positive as the Qantas club now stays open until the late EK departure whereas it used to close at 6:30pm.

I don't get it, if Qantas is soooo bad then why don't people switch to other airlines?? I think the answer is that other airlines have even tougher rules and a lot less service for their club members. The entitlement mentality seems to be alive and well with many Qantas customers.

Given that Qantas doesn't codeshare with CX, I doubt you have a Qantas flight number on a Cathay Pacific aircraft.

Perhaps a CX flight number on a CX aircraft, or a QF flight number on a JQ aircraft?

For some reason, I also doubt the QF number on the flights. I could not find a way for the QF site to spit this one out.

I think the good old days of flying are well and truly over. I agree about the mentality but it takes two to tango.

Some have reduced and/or switched airlines.

But, the way qantas manages its business (profit or loss) affects us all when they come asking the taxpayer for guarantees for their debt.

That gives anyone a pretty good lever to be able to say how they think QF might improve in their search for more revenue. If I'm going to be asked to risk stumping up my money, I should be able to comment.

Unfortunately it's not like changing your underwear. The situation is more akin to a rowdy group of young university students moving in next door destroying your tranquility. You don't wake up one day and say 'Well, we'll move house. Start packing the boxes, hun'.

True, but some of us have moved out to a rental property to see how another neighbourhood compares - something I would never have contemplated 18months ago.

(Just off another VA flight, 4 rtn trips short of VA SG).

I switched in 2007.

No, you break out the hammer drill and start installing shelves at 7 o'clock every morning.
Don't think that would work on QF though.

FJ doesn't pay QF for your lounge entry. Same applies in NAN - QC membership doesn't get you into the FJ lounge.

Another little change - If you were Platinum or above and passing through Dubai, you could take two children (+ a guest, probably one's wife ... ;-)) into the Emirates First lounge.
Now "all children counted towards guest numbers".

That stinks ...as we will be traveling as a family through DXB in two weeks time...

Or does it - from elsewhere on the Qantas site (Platinum benefits page):

Red Roo...please can you confirm - this seems to be contradictory?

I am P1 and was in DXB 2 weeks ago and had no issues getting my wife and 2 children into the EK first lounge on both legs

I did have trouble finding the transfer area for the overnight hotel stay!!

I know! How dare people expect to get what they paid to have! How dare they!

I think it did come from Emirates. I tried to get into the EK Melbourne lounge last week when on QF9 and the boarding pass would not scan, and so I was kicked out; so I expect EK started this round of lock out.
