Qantas removes Lounge Access for QP members on EK flights from Oct 1

That said you can buy lounge access for around $50-70 I think at a lounge in the DXB airport, can't recall the name just now.

That's the Marhaba Lounge in T1, it was around that order of money last time I paid for access. Recently been renovated. They do 1 hr access and 4 hrs access prices. If you have a Diners Card I understand you can also get free access to the 'First Class Lounge' in Dubai T1, but don't get excited by the name. It's pretty average.

I believe QR flies to Budapest direct from Doha.

Of course pre-EK, lounge access for QP would have been no issue with QF/BA, codeshare or no codeshare (albeit with transit at LHR). In fact you could fly all the way from Australia on BA metal, BA codes, book with BA, and have QF/BA lounge access all the way.

Not good enough QF/EK. Partners or not ?

I did this last year. At the time I was QF Gold.

SYD-DXB (QF) Syd Int J Lounge access
DXB-DOH (QR) No lounge access
DOH-BUD (QR) Orxy lounge access

My main gripe is that Qantas is in a "major alliance with EK" and they can't even offer a QF code on a new EK route. QF wants to funnel everyone through Dubai and can't even offer lounge access to their QC members (on a route that doesn't have a QF codeshare). On top of that (as others have mentioned) you usually pay a premium to fly QF. Seems pretty poor form if you ask me.

...and of course, QF shared the revenue.

Indeed they did. The BA/QF JSA was often described as the two of them operating more or less like a single airline on the kangaroo route. Sharing revenue and passengers.

Then QF entered into a JSA with EK, the terms of which we don't know, but which involves handing passengers to EK in DBX on a plate. Let's hope that QF gets royally rewarded for that. Because some pax, esp QP, got royally shafted.

We *do* know they don't revenue share.

I also believe that BA's LHR-SYD-LHR has gone from being "marginal" since the divorce, though much of that could be down to the 777-300ERs used of late.

But they make a commission on every EK flight or codeshare they sell.

QR being oneworld Sapphire and Emerald not sure if you would get access to the BA terraces lounge in T1, if open. It doesn't open till 15.00 and it closes at 02.00. And they are near gate C22 whereas the QR flights tend to leave toward the other end of the C gates.

Just checking QR's website and it claims you can access these lounges, so BA may knock you back.
The lounge facilities listed below are available to Privilege Club Platinum, Gold, Silver members & oneworld Emerald, Sapphire members travelling on any oneworld flight as well as our Premium Class customers. Please confirm your lounge access eligibility with the check-in counter staff.
Dubai International Hotel First Class Lounge
Dubai International Hotel Business Class Lounge

I have been in what is alleged to be the 'first class lounge' on a QR flight (that was where QR sent me), haven't tried the 'business class lounge'.

Had to do a quick Visa run this week (award flight) and would have liked to head to HKG again, but the removal of QP access kind of put a dampener on that. My first (and probably last) time to try out the new QP and fly on EK's 380 in May, was enjoyable but not at all awe-inspiring - nice break though.

Now heading to SIN instead; the only saving grace of having to do the SIN-BKK leg with Deathstar, is that I'll have lounge access - the BKK-SIN leg is CX J, so currently in the lounge enjoying the peace and quiet.

Yet another reason to put EK into the "no" list of airline choice; if I can "codeshare" I get access, but if I can't I don't (am I reading that right??). Same metal, same route different flight number - the "simplified QF program" astounds me no end. ;)

QF can you remind me again why I was stupid enough to purchase QP membership? When my renewal arrives next year, pretty sure I'll toss your letter straight into the bin, and choose to fly CX instead.
