Qantas removes Lounge Access for QP members on EK flights from Oct 1

Has anyone else noticed a cycle yet, have a sale on QP membership then a few months later reduce the benefits by changing access?

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

Maybe a lot of EK only fliers who couldn't make Gold (and thus get lounge access) were using QP as a backdoor to EK lounges (especially in DXB?) and that's what prompted this cull.

That's what I was thinking, only QF would know the numbers ;)

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

Maybe a lot of EK only fliers who couldn't make Gold (and thus get lounge access) were using QP as a backdoor to EK lounges (especially in DXB?) and that's what prompted this cull.

Or maybe they are just trying to piss people off. Like clockwork. Every few weeks.

I don't think it's either.

If you were looking for paid Lounge Access at DXB, there are better and cheaper options than QC - and without the restrictions which the QC access had (PP, for example).

Despite my constant annoyance at QF, I don't think they're deliberately setting out to p!ss people off. I think we're finally getting to see the complete ineptitude of the current Management Structure and (lack of) focused direction.

To my mind, that is far more worrying than a concerted effort to dissuade customers.

The answer should be-for which we have paid already to access.

I think that's the thing which is often forgotten, joining the QP is very expensive, it costs $855 to join, and then $485 per year to maintain membership (we'll ignore corp discounts for now).
That's very expensive for the casual flyer, it takes a lot of flying to get value out of that membership. I tend to figure that I need a minimum of 10 visits per year with at least 2 or 3 longer (aka more than 2 hours) visits to get on par with the cost, and to throw a spanner in the works, that needs to be a visit where lounge access would not have otherwise been granted. (AKA I'm simply flying Y).

If you've just laid out that sort of money to access the QP, you've pretty much confirmed your loyalty to the redroo. Since unless you've also joined VA Lounge, there is a massive incentive to fly QF whenever possible. So what I would like to know is why are QF (or QF allowing their partners) consistently devaluing a program which all but guarantee's qantas.com.au will be the first place the person looks when booking flights.

interestingly when I told Dr FM that she would no longer have access to the lounges unless on a codeshare she said she would only book code shares in future... So I guess if others are the same it will work for Qantas. I would go for the cheaper airfares, but she really does love her lounge access!

DXB has a paid lounge (Marhaba) that looks ok and could easily be covered by the difference in price between EK and QF flight numbers :)

Hmm - will have to tell her that - at this point in her life I feel paying down her mortgage is more important than lounge access but you have to enjoy life as well I guess!

Just looked at Frequent Flyer - Flying Qantas & Partner Airlines - Tier Benefits

So Golds have access to QF and Oneworld Lounges.
There is no mention of any Emirates Lounge on that page!

It has been all Emirates Lounges except America. This is still stated on the Platinum Benefits.

So maybe the access for Golds was covered by the complimentary QF-Club membership and has silently been culled as well?

Dubai is an associated lounge and listed as such. Looks to me that the EK lounges elsewhere have been left off the gold benefits (specifically mentioned in platinum benefits). I'd like to think they continue to make mistakes on the website, but they seem to mount - surely if QANTAS are going to describe benefits they could ensure that they are accurate.

It is not DXB, but all the European and Asian Ports that may be interesting for me. It seems that they have silently been enhanced. I did not find any note of Golds accessing EK lounges on EK flights.

It will be a mistake. There is no way IMHO that QF will remove lounge access for EK flights for SG.
There are reciprocal benefits for Skywards Gold and Plat.

They're building walls for their codeshare passengers?!?!

It is not only for codeshare passengers. Until now Golds have/had lounge access for all EK coded and operated flights. I found that very handy and it is/was quite a nice extension of benefits. Most EK flights from my home do either carry no QF number or the prices for the QF code are about twice as high as with an EK code.

Another enhancement.I am qantas ps one world gold via Cathay pacific Amex platinum..on 28th June on qf1 and several times last year I was able to access Dubai business lounge.on 28th July I was refused entry despite protest to supervisor etc.they said the original ticket had to be endorsed to Cathay not qantas.is everyone tightening up on benefits?

I remember being at the EK T3 LHR lounge when a QP member tried to access on QF flight. They asked if he was Chairmans Lounge? Has there been unpublished benefits here for WP/CL?
