To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

Interesting to read the offers some P1s have had - tickets, simulators etc

Nothing at all for me - what's the secret?

There is no secret other than ring and ask the P1 team what they have for you :)

Indeed, it certainly seems sometimes you can't go wrong by asking.

They do monitor this thread too though, so if they know who you are when you post here... and you express interest in an offer someone else has received, they can follow up with you :p

LOL kind of like I knew tickets were normally available for the F1 in Melbourne I rang and asked about it and was advised by the P1 team that their was no tickets available to anyone this year for that event then a few weeks later at an event (NON QF) I spoke to other P1s that had attended the F1 at QFs invite so some times asking doesn't mean you will get as they don't advise you correctly of what is actually available.

Thanks for that link. Some interesting points indeed.
Its also confirmation that even Plat1 is sub-divided by QF (not unexpectedly) into P1 and P1+++. :)

I think for my year, now finished, I was P1---

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Partner WP is nice for those who have a partner, so that is a positive. Partners of CL already get CL status as well. You only need 1800/2000 SC on VA to get the same thing however.
You can't compare VA Platinum to QF Platinum. Chalk and cheese.

I'm in Sydney

Others may correct me on this, but I believe the offers are targeted based on what you have selected on your Qantas FF profile under "Special Interest Offers" - have you filled that out? Alternatively as samh004 mentioned send them an email and see if anything is coming up.

A few responses:

*Agree that VA Domestic is best and QF Intl is best
*I will never ask for a simulator exp or an event - they market that stuff so they should offer it. If you have to ask then what's the point.................may as well ask for an upgrade every time we fly
*My profile has always been up-to-date

At the risk of causing a riot on here some of the feedback I gave on Tuesday at the Sydney function was that I have no interest in golf membership, Epiqure or the Qantas Platinum Restaurants - and as I don't work in the CBD the lounge in the rocks is no use to me either. All I want is the best travel experience I can get for my membership status. Whilst I think its a bit cute and cuddly that QF now believe they have a nice food and wine community and a nice golf community I really doubt that's driving any sustainable emotional attachment with the brand. I stand to be corrected however if I find this post overwhelmed by golfers and foodies (I always buy the wines from Dan Murphy's as they are way cheaper than epiqure) :)

silverlining, it appears that there is no solid database management or well managed target marketing for P1's - sounds more like reactive or just-in-time management. They should "de-select" in your profile those areas in which you find no use.

If it were organised well, then all P1's would be target emailed/contacted about their local events....and then a general call, closer to the date in case other P1's are going to be in the target city on the day/night of the event, if they are unable to fill numbers from initial contact. There would be no P1's here complaining about not getting invited to events they see others ARE invited to (from the same city).

Seems crazy to me that they are missing out on getting deeper in the brand loyalty on those most travelled members... who (in the majority), would be generating the largest source of revenue and profit to QF (when considering the Pareto principle).
