To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

Had some difficulties with an upcoming international flight, being moved from EK to QF with no good reason (covered in another thread). Great difficulty getting it corrected without stuffing other elements of the booking. Called upon the P1 team late last week and this morning - very quick responses, got onto the right people and eventually this afternoon everything seems fixed.

Probably all matters I could have addressed with time over the phone, but great to have the help from the P1 team. Seeing as I haven't been overly positive in the past - just wanted to note the terrific help in this case.

Flew Back on Monday BNE-MEL and collected Boarding Pass which had a nice note wishing me a happy birthday. Nice touch. On board CSM came down and wanted to move me to J however as there was only 1 seat available that would have ment Mrs Ansett being left behind so I politely declined the offer much to Mrs Ansett's surprise and appreciation. I di ask if she would like to take the offer up and I would stay in Y :) Won some brownie points on that flight :)

Credit where its due - got bumped up to first from Biz (on boarding) on Thursday night flight back from Hong Kong - cabin service and lounge service were top notch. First intl upgrade I've had and now in second year of WP1.

I flew back from Broome the other day and had previously selected 4A and C for myself and my partner. Checked the booking a few days before departure and saw I'd been bumped to 5A and B. Not sure why, but was able to change back to 4A and C thankfully. We kept the empty seat between us thankfully, although the flight wasn't that full.

My partner is SG and flew to South America this morning (by herself). The whole airport seemed packed. Without trying to be DYKWIA, I was there at check-in, showed my P1 card and politely asked if she could have an express departure/customs card. The agent happily obliged. A small gesture but it was a very nice touch.

Received another random discount-Y to J upgrade on a Gold Coast-Sydney leg recently - would have much preferred it on my upcoming SYD-LAX-SYD trip in W, but certainly can't complain! My 'surprise' upgrade rate has been about 15% since becoming P1. Haven't received any of these on Emirates despite those with lower status seemingly having a good run with them on EK. Obviously these are good tools for QF to keep us hooked...

Just wondering what anyone's experience has been with the timing of upgrade confirmations within the extended "up to 7 days" confirmation window. I've an upgrade request in for next Thursdays QF127 from W. Expert flyer shows loadings as

QF 127 SYD 9:45a → HKG 5:20p
F9 A8 J9 C9 D9 I9 W9 R9 T0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S7 G0 E0

On these numbers I had expectations of a confirmation through by now

What's people's thoughts? Do the confirmations usually come through early or late?

Thanks

I got a very nice phone call last night inviting me to the Qantas hospitality at the rugby 7's
I'm already booked out so couldn't take the tickets, but very much appreciated the offer

Well here we are stuck in Dallas for a second night cos the A380 out of Sydney turned back via Fiji - it's been the biggest shambles I've ever seen with apparently 70 people missing the Thursday flight and since the QF8
on Friday was cancelled we are all just joyous and thinking of forming an appreciation society. As for being a WP1 - I got told to call American Airlines as it was their problem.............well done Qantas on a really successful launch of the A380 to Dallas!!!!!

MEL-BNE today Y sold out completely and the only vacant seat I could spot in the plane was the one next to mine in J.
Thank QF for the op-up and shadow :)
The benefits of P1 flying on public holidays...

For interest, why was it an AA problem? I assume you must have been on the AA codeshare/AA ticket but QF being the operating carrier I would still think it was still their problem in any case.
