I prefer Mel over Syd, smaller. More intimate, although the views from syd are quite spectacular.......

Mr Sprucegoose... i was skeptical... but finally i organised a trip which would allow me to visit the Mel Flounge and yes i'd have to agree... it's smaller but you're much better looked after in it... fantastic... so you Melbourne people get the Aussie open, the F1, the best casino and now this...

We're just so deserving! :D:oops:

I would have thought you would have to check in with the operating carrier?

Will have to check-in with the operating carrier. Unless it's Air Pacific where as they use the same system as QF and most staff can access it under the same QF login details.

Yes but you can gladly have the F1, it's just 2-3 months of hell on the roads here (I drove through Albert Park every week day for 6 years getting to/from work (I lived in St Kilda) and it was a nightmare during the Grand Prix; Most of us here in Melbourne would be happy with it gone to NSW or back to SA where we stole it from).

Both MEL and SYD have lovely First lounges.
PER does not even have a J lounge for domestic and sometimes you can be lucky to get a seat.
At LAX we stay at our apartment and go for a later pick up because the lounges in Tom Bradley are out of date.
I know American have a beauty next door but why is there such a difference?

The TBIT lounges are very new, in fact, probably the newest in the USA (with the exception of soon-to-be re-opened Flagship lounge in MIA).

The TBIT F Lounge is OK, but the wifi sucks, and it gets so full it's not uncommon for the staff to make loud speaker calls requesting people not to put bags on seats, and ensure that there is space for everyone.

Most people, where possible, will sit over at the Flagship lounge in T4, before catching a bus to TBIT an hour or so prior to the flight. This is often the more comfortable option.

Just wondering what the hours are these days for the MEL F lounge?
I am on QF37 (MEL-WLG) at 8:40 on Saturday 26/11 and was hoping to exercise my new WP status in the F lounge beforehand.

It will be open (QF25 departs much earlier than that.)

However, with QF29 going from late night, I don't see it being open much after 6pm soon ....

Ah cool - does QF25 still have F then? Since it's operated by a 330 I assumed it wouldn't.

So what's good for brekkie in the F lounge? I've only ever been there in the afternoon.

A somewhat related question.

Is it possible to check in for an evening flight (QF 29) earlier in the day? For once this is actualy unrelated to lounge time maximization but to be able to coordinate airport timing with someone on JQ 35 which leaves much earlier in the evening.

So, hypothetically, could the F suite check in your bags during its late afternoon opening hours (or any other desk for that matter at >T-3 hours)?

They can, they may even do so ... but they don't have to!

Best trick is to connect from another city ...

I have had personal success recently. Wanted (needed) to check in 6 hrs before a QFi flight at SYD going to LAX.

The F line was busy, so went to empty J check in line. They said "No" but then said to try the F line.
F check in said "yes" and did it with a smile. So it shows they can do it.

But YMMV

Hi all,

I am currently planning a trip to SEA with my sister. She will be flying out of PER and I will fly out of SYD and our plan is to meet in SIN to start the trip. Looking at flight times the flight from MEL seems to meet up with the PER flight slightly better so I was thinking of flying SYD-MEL-SIN. I was lucky enough to receive on of the F lounge passes from QF as a sorry for the shut down and I was wondering if I book a fairly long connection between the flight to MEL and the one to SIN to maximise my F lounge time will it be open the whole time or will some of it be closed like the spa? I would be flying to SIN on QF9 which leaves at 15:30 and am thinking of booking a morning flight down from SYD I am assuming I can check everything through in SYD so I won't have to worry about check in opening times in MEL.

If you are looking at flying out on QF009 then you won't have an issue going to the lounge early if you get an early flight from SYD. as your luggage will be checked through you can land and walk straight to T2 and the F lounge. The spa is open all day from memory.

I managed a six hour FLounge connecting to QF009 from a JQ flight. Perhaps, not surprisingly, the time passed very quickly and most enjoyably!

While this won't affect the OP, I've seen the spa sometimes close as soon as QF 9 is called, while there are still pax in the lounge for AKL flights; and of course, the rare closure of the lounge itself when QF 93 is cancelled.

Does the QF first lounge now close at 5pm every day in Melbourne? Now that Qantas don't have any late night departures anywhere (seems utterly ridiculous in itself)

I believe so - after the Qf133 17:30 flight to AKL commence boarding.

It seems like such a waste to have such a beautiful lounge and so few Qantas international departures, only 2 of them have F now. The airport is a hive of activity around midnight, but the national carrier is nowhere to be seen.
