Oz Jet to start all business class flights???

Although I don't like the age of the OzJet planes, I am willing to give them a go.

Just like Dave, I'll be arranging for a flight with them as soon as possible after they start services.

Probably the 10/11th Dec for me - although I am in Syd on the 2/3rd Dec this year, I already have other plans that don't involve flying Ozjet!

I am surprised at OzJet's low baggage allowance of 20Kg and their sparse schedule of flights leaves something to be desired

But they do allow 20kg of carryon luggage as well (3 pieces, each 7kg max)

So do they have a frequent flyer scheme?
Not from what I have seen. Defeats the purpose of flying when you can't accumulate status. If anything like Virgin we may see one in 5+ years time.

But you do have a chance in a special promotion
Passengers in the first three months of our operation will have the chance to win the Minardi Formula One 2-Seater Experience – rides in the world’s most advanced type of racing car specially adapted to take a passenger.

One passenger a day will win the Minardi Formula One 2-Seater Experience and there will be one winner a week in OzJet’s second and third months of operation.

Also I don't like this limitation
alcoholic beverages from the Foster’s Australia range

Actually, I always found that the purpose if flying was to get from A to B. FF programmes are just a nicety. Anyway, if their product does favourably compare with QFs J domestic, then I would think of it as jam today rather than jam tomorrow

You are right the most popular purpose of flying is to get from A to B.

But when travelling for business I would rather, especially short flights like SYD-MEL, SYD-BNE, BNE-MEL, accumulate status and ff points in some ff scheme even travelling on red e-deals.

Also there are the status runs or mileage runs. I want to go from A to B via C,D,E,F. If you fly with an airline with no ff programme then status runs or mileage runs really do not exist.

Well, given my views on Mileage/Status Runs , that would hardly be a consideration to me.

If O7's service and cabin is really business class quality then their fare is equivalent to buying a $305 ticket, it compares to a flexi/full fare ticket on QF plus having to spend 4000 points.

Ability to accrue Frequent Flyer points or equivalent is one of the factors that goes into deciding who to fly. The advantage it gives Qantas is to allow them to identify its frequent flyers and give greater recognition to them. Now while QF may not use it to its fullest extent at the moment (lack of competition), if ozJet becomes more than a minor annoyance then we may see Qantas do something.

It would still be inetersting to see ozJet come up with some sort of scheme (even if its the 10 flights gets you a free one type of thing)

It is a factor but not necessarily a major factor. I have , for example, flown EK 1st a number of times since they have had v good fares. I was more interested in the excellent service and the v good fares that were being offered. Much more important than some numbers in a FF account.

I suggest that for many ( most? ) people , that an FF scheme is not the main issue for people.

EK has a Frequent Flyer scheme and does reward it most frequent flyers. My brother works with the UN in Africa/Middle East and regularly flies ex SYD. He tells me he gets Op-Upped 9 times out of 10 from there.

He says this is because:

• Emirates are very popular out of Sydney for travel via Dubai and nearby regions, &
• Many people living in Australia who fly Emirates are not members of Skywards, as a resut he gets better access to these perks.

FWIW, 2 years ago he was a WP (gained while working for the AEC ex CBR) prior to that he was a top level Ansett FF.

I should have mentioned.. I was actually using this prior to the introduction of the Skywards scheme for paid F travel. I actually managed to become a gold skywards member withing a few days that skywards was introduced thanks to a trip I took at that time

They had a good service and a v good value fare.. better to me than FF points

That's why they are very popular out of Sydney (or most places Ex Oz for that matter). Unless one is tied to QF either by the "need" for Status Credits or Travel policies of one's employer they appear a very good option.

1000 FF points are not going to convince me to take QF K fare over O7's business class product. If I needed the 20 SC's to retain Platinum status, then QF K fare looks good to me. But if I have already requalified for Plat status for the next year, then there is no incentive for me to use QF over O7 unless I need some of the other QF benefits such as baggage allowance or interline baggage to connecting flights.

O7 is a curious code to use. I thought F1 might have been more appropriate.

I've just had a look at their flight schedule for SYD-MEL. One flight earlier than 8:30am would be a nice addition. Arriving at 9:45am in MEL is a little bit late for me. I guess it will fill out quickly with every aircraft they add to the fleet.

I'm guessing O7 will really put some pressure on QF.

I'm also a bit concerned about the age of their planes. Does anyone have any details on the origin/history of their aircraft?

Ummm... what about 07 3 departing at 06:20 which arrives at 07:45?

Try this link for flight schedules. There is flight at 6:20am.

Thanks guys. I was looking at the flights on a specific day and assumed that was the full schedule.

I'll check out the link!

I have found a big minus with O7 for those ( like me ) who travel with lots of checked luggage.

O7 has a 20Kg allowance with excess fees of $2 per Kg

Qantas whY allows 1 PC ( plus extra to QP and Pretty Coloured card members ) whilst QF J allows 3 PC , with each piece being 32Kg. Excess fees where charged are $11 per piece

With the 60Kg I often travel with , I would be hit for $80 excess fees so it makes O7 a no go for me on a lot of my trips
