A couple of other birthday wines we consumed last weekend...

There was also a 2010 Noble One that went nicely with a lemon tart.

What is the round sticker on the RR label, is it one of those gold medal stickers from a wine show? (or just a price tag..)

The restaurant puts a sticker on the bottle so they know which bottle belongs to which table. Wines are kept on a separate table so that you dont get crowded.

Nice, easy drinking Barossa Shiraz from one of my favourite producers:

the Torbreck Barossa Valley The Sporran Shiraz 2013

Tasting note:

2013 Torbreck Shiraz The Sporran, Australia, South Australia, Barossa - CellarTracker

"This multi-vineyard Torbreck Barossa Shiraz has got serious quality written all over it. Not only that, it's seriously drinkable.

The nose is glorious as blueberries, dark cherries, tar, liquorice, sage, rosemary, vanilla, oak and baking spice delight and waft from the glass. The palate is so smooth, concentrated, chocolately, bold and nicely balanced, as those sweet and savoury flavours lead into a fine lingering finish.

It's my only bottle, but I am clambering for more as this has huge potential for 5 or so years time. A Wozza 94.5/100 (4.1) from me.
"
Wozza, I have this in my hand in the study as I type. I was just talking to someone about dan murphys. maybe you and I both bought the 7 bottle $199 deal with a meschach.

so a stunner from you which is good BUT which is better. This or that hares chance ironscraper if that was it's name. A toughy, but good for a comment.

As I noted up thread, two bottles down so far this week:

Getting into the spirit of the last week of school term so Mrs QF WP joined me to crack open one of her favourites:

Going to take a couple along with us on a trip to Cairns, Port Douglas (Conference) and Daintree. Nice relaxing holiday to go with 3 days of work

Great question, Beefarmer. No, I picked up my Sporran 13 in a Langtons Mystery Pack where the average bottle price was $25, and which included quite a few decent premium wines.

Just re-checking my notes, and I see both the Hare's Chase 13 and the Sporran 13 have got a Wozza 94.5! However, I'd say the Hare's Chase is marginally better - just. And it's got a better name!

I just managed to grab a six pack of Hare's Chase for $11 pb from Langtons auctions. Worth keeping an eye on them if you're after some.
Me too; $11 pb for one six pack and $13 for another six pack. Then add in commission but still damn good buying. Beefarmer they have the Hares Chase tempranillo on auction currently, W&D maybe should have a look. Cheers

Slightly belated, but had this 1995 Cape Mentelle on Wednesday night at Opus in West Perth. Just entering its drinking window. Stunning wine.

Parker Terra Rossa First Growth 2008:
Much better than the first bottle I drank. Cassis, blackberries and a hint of oak on the nose. Good fruit core with solid acid line on the palate. Slightly grippy tannins. If the rest of the bottles are like this one, then they have a good future ahead of of them.

We tried the McLaren Vale red Olivers Teranga 2010 at Rosetta in Crown Melbourne and it was a really good pick.

ah. Great wine!

Ate there a few years ago and it was excellent. What's it like now?

Still excellent. Food and service was top notch. I think the place has had a minor refurb too (for the better). I do think their wine list pricing is on the expensive side (food too). Having said that, I've been there before and I'll certainly be back in future. West Perth really does have some stand-out restaurants in my opinion. The other two being Villa De'Este and Perugino.

Sunday night Pinots: superb 2010 The Curly tonight. Wonderful earthy nose, palate brilliant, soft spice tannins, hints of dark chocolate, fruits, (interesting long finish on back palate hints of myrtle). Drinking very well now but has several more years in it I suggest.

Pinot tonight for me as well - meaty raspberry blackberry flavours, balanced by some acid and slightly powdery tannins, with a long finish - very enjoyable
