I wonder what the logic is? Sounds like no time savings (especially if turbo prop) and is there really much meat in the run to offer sustainable cost savings (given that QF and VA would likely immediately slash fares to send the new comer belly up) and likely no FFer scheme to speak of?
I wonder if a F70 would work out of BWU. Alliance has the F70 VIP (all business class), that may possibly be probing for a niche (which is what is needed to lure pax, I'd think) and they already do East Coast commercial flights.
ahh but there would be massive time savings & no stress if indeed Bankstown & Essendon.
At Sydney end, there must be something like 3 million people who live closer to Bankstown than Mascot, especially when you consider the last few kms to Mascot can take all the time & take into account the time it takes just to get to aircraft door at Mascot, not just getting out of car or taxi.
it might go like ............... arrive at say Bankstown, 15 mins before departure, park right outside terminal at no cost, so no need for $50 to $200 return Uber or taxi fares to airport to avoid massive car parking charges at SYD. Maybe pick up a light snack or breakfast in terminal. This might be included like a very basic Qantas club or simply paid for at time.
Walk few hundred metres tops to aircraft & depart. Because the aircraft would have to be obviously smaller, getting off would be quick as well.
No massive crowds to negotiate at check in or at security(no rubber gloves), no issues with computer failures or power failures.
With only a few flights in am, they could go back to "paper" if any computer or power issues.
Almost the same at Essendon end, which is closer to Melbourne CBD & easy to get out of.
For those with bags, no waiting for bags to turn up & no chance of any bags getting lost ever, as passengers could carry their own bags to aircraft possibly.
The more I think about it, the better it sounds.
QF/VA wouldn't touch their fares for business people on peak hour flights, as that's where they make all their money. The new operator might just concentrate on 0600-0900 & 1600-2000 flight timings, but talking such small numbers, the big boys probably wouldn't even notice.
For pm flights, the new operator, could have happy hours, just like the big boys.
Gather that some people hate big airports so much, they try & avoid business trips altogether.
A new service might not even be price sensitive. They probably won't be going after leisure market & would be easy to have a very simply FFer scheme, maybe such as buy some many 1 ways, get so many free to give to whoever, or plenty of other disocunts can be offered, which wouldn't cost anything, but would have a decent perceived value.
The hard part I imagine, would be getting started, but there are so many bad news stories about Sydney airport in particular, the new operator could probably get lots of free publicity, without spending a fortune on advertising.
Might see if they have any jobs going for self.
