Not sure that is does... the website says

"Complimentary membership (a USD$60 savings per year!)"

which implies that the discount is ongoing. Where did you see that it goes back to standard pricing after the first year?

I think they must have picked this up, because now it says:

  • Waived set-up fee (USD$20 savings)
  • Complimentary 1 year Premium Membership (a USD$60 savings!)
  • 30% off already discounted DHL & FedEx shipping rates

Well if i get charged next year I will cancel it!! i didn't say one year only for me!

In the My Account page, at "My Discounts" it specifies:

- a 30% discount with an expiry of 25 July 2012 [i.e. a year after I joined]

- "Your Annual Fee is waived courtesy of MyUS.com and American Express" with no expiry

Methinks I will investigate the situation in a year and discontinue if either the discount is removed or annual fee applied

Without the Amex option though, it is pricey (as they don't offer an 'economy' option to AU; they do have USPS options, but not for us down here).

Yeah, wish they had the USPS option. Most of my US purchases are fairly light, cheap and not really time sensitive. USPS would be much better for many of these purchases.

Does this work with ANZ platinum Amex cards too ?

Don't know about ANZ but I signed up using a Westpac Earth Platinum so I would assume it's any Amex branded or otherwise.
My account also states 30% Shipping discount for 1 year and the annual fee waived with no expiry, here's hoping :)
Has anyone set up a US paypal account, is it even possible to do so from here?

My account has no expiry date for the annual fee or the 30% discount.

My first shipment from them was sent on Thursday and will be delivered today (Monday). That's pretty quick. I was also impressed with the short time in which they sent it after putting in the shipping request. It was requested overnight (US time) and ready for despatch by 9:30am the next day. Based on this I would not recommend paying the $10 fee for urgent delivery!

I signed up for this service and received my first package recently. It came via DHL and only took a few days from the US. Everything was good.

I used it to order Lego for my son from a US retailer because Lego have differential pricing (Australian RRPs are roughly double US RRPs despite the product being identical and coming from sources outside both) and forbid their US retailers from selling to a non-US address. Even with the extra shipping I save a handy amount and had the satisfaction of circumventing Lego's differential pricing scheme.

I have to agree it's very satisfying getting around differential pricing. I got several items on behalf of various people in my family:
  • a hand-held oscilloscope for US$200, similar products are around $600 here.
  • spark plugs, less than half price in the US (!)
  • a funky lamp, not amazingly cheap but Amazon refuse to ship it to Australia
  • Swarovski crystals, about 40% off Australian prices
The only problem is I now have a massive Amazon wish list of stuff that I want, and it could end up costing me lots of money!

My wife is into Swarovski so I will remember that. I take it US retailers can't sell direct to a non-US address?

My wife ordered from Crystal Classics because swarovski.com wouldn't accept a foreign billing address. They were willing to ship to Australia but the shipping costs were slightly more expensive than sending it via MyUS (and a lot more expensive when the MyUS shipping was combined with other items).

Mal I raised this with myus as I often get things from the USA using USPS when time is not an issue. Their response was:

We do offer USPS shipping, but because we have negotiated such low rates with DHL, we are able to offer lower rates than even USPS EMI!

I signed up for this, but have a couple of questions:

Has anybody who signed up for this deal gone on to change their credit card to another, and still managed to keep the shipping and annual fee discounts?

Also, how does the 30% shipping discount work for this deal? Using the shipping calculator, it only shows the regular 15% discount for the Premium plan.

You simply deduct the 30% from the premium price on the shipping calculator.

I had to change my card once to visa to pay for a friends bill and received an email saying for future invoices I'd need to pay with AMEX to continue getting the 30% off but YMMV.

I see, thanks!

Guess the 30% discount is worth more than the difference in forex rates (and fees) from using 28 Degrees... well, for the size of transactions that I'm ever likely to make anyway :)

OK, for the record, you have to have, and use, an Amex card to get the discount and annual fee waived.

Have now used them... Quite a smooth operation really.

1.2 pound (~600g) package is about $A30 shipped via DHL. About what I expected, pretty cheap really.

Been reading this thread with interest. How do you work out the weight of your purchase for shipping charges? or does MyUs.com weigh it for you and then charge accordingly?

Also, do you really have to
How to Order from U.S. Companies
1. Contact your credit card company and add your MyUS Address as a secondary ship to or secondary billing address.
Can I just ring up AMEX here to do it?

thanks

On your first question MyUS.com give the weight of the purchase. Literally just completed a transaction today where I consolidated three purchases from Amazon. You then get DHL and Fedex options to ship to Australia.

I set everything up through MyUS without ringing Amex at all and have had no problems.

They weigh it etc and work out the charges. In my case I already knew the approximate dimensions and weight, so was able to use their shipping estimate calculator. Note the calc for Premium doesn't deduct the 30% Amex discount, nor does it add insurance ($1/ $100).
