I cancelled my membership last week before the fee was due. I have had the membership for many years and they have continued to comp the fee. It took about 3 emails to them requesting the cancellation before they finally believed me that I wanted out! I think they would have comped the fee again, but I haven't used them in over 12 months and with the plummeting AUD and their shipping costs I don't think I will be using them anytime soon.

So if you threaten to cancel the membership they will comp the fee for 12 months?
 
They offered "standard membership" with 10$ fee to set up. I said cancel anyway and cancelled it was.

If the price difference was only GST then I'm sure it would change things. But in reality the Aussie tax is much more significant. I've bought 4 new snowboards this year, retailing in AU at around $3.5kAUD. Total cost, shipped from the USA was closer to 2k AUD.

Maybe if the AUD hits 0.5 USD.

That has certainly been my experience. Again this year they asked if there was anything they could do that would make me keep the membership - I said 'no' just cancel please.

I've just gone through it for the second time.. I noticed the charge on my card and said please cancel. they said how about we refund the fee instead. I said ok..

That means they also downgraded your account to the "Standard" membership though, right? That's what they offered me, but it seems like my account has been deleted anyway. I've been tracking the refund but it still hasn't come through... enquired about it, and they said that they may have lost my details due to deleting my account when it was cancelled. But the rep I spoke to said they'd look into it and if I didn't hear back from them with a request for more details it meant the refund would be processed in the usual timeframe. Still waiting....

What a farce.
 
Ah, just checked after I made this post and the refund had come through last night after all. Managed to make 71c in the process after exchange rates taken into consideration, LOL.

I noticed a $60 charge come through on an old AMEX card number & queried it with myus.com on their chat facility. I had not realised on the AMEX promotion from 2011 that they would auto-charge a membership fee 4 years later, after making a couple of purchases in 2011. Pays to read the thousands of words of T&C's, I guess & setting a 4 year diary note to revisit. After about 20 minutes of to & fro online chat, I cut & pasted a previous positive response from myus to an AFF member's similar difficulties, since I was getting frustrated with chat using pre-prepared responses for every objection I had. Finally I got;

Teresa: I can switch your membership to our standard membership, that way, in case you do ship again in the future, you don't have to pay set up fees again

There are no membership fees with our standard membership, you only pay when you ship
Teresa: And the $60 will be refunded to your card

This will be my last shipment due to exchange rate. But clearly something else has changed with management. I am having a lot of issues with my current shipment and last night stayed up to online chat. This "person" was extremely rude, said things that I knew were incorrect and in effect called me a liar. I kept a transcript of the chat and will email it to them when this last shipment is done. In the end they were caught out in their errors as I received an email from my us during the chat that proved that I had not lied at all. Still angry about it.
 
I have to say that I've always received great service from the company, even though they plead with you to remain with the company. You're right about the last shipment with the falling Aussie dollar. Good times are over, baby.

Yes. As have I. Until yesterday which was why I was gobsmacked at the nastiness. I have been with them for years.

I just did a quote on the website for shipping the goods. For 5lbs Fedex economy their calculator suggests $71 USD. They'd better give me the Anex discount!
