Hilton Honors Site driving me mad

It seems to be an issue with my ISP at the moment. At work everything is fine, at home it is not. The problem is that the error is being generated on the Hilton servers. So whatever is wrong is a mystery to me.

I get the problem at QP's (ISP Telstra), Current Work (ISP Telstra) & Home (ISP Bigpond(=Telstra)).

i read this on flyertalk too, it's just isolated to australia. hilton really need to get their act together. the reason it's working at work and not home, is you're probably routed through a different supplier of your internet bandwidth (ie satellite, via undersea cable through asia), who knows... i suspect it's a proxy/caching issue on hilton's part - i bet one of their IT people decided to change hosting of content and caching to lower bandwidth costs to someone like akami and in turn basically akami or whoever is running it for them here doesn't even realise it's a problem. it's gotten beyond the point of frustration, worked perfectly on my same laptop throughout the US, back to Australia, useless....

Except for a couple of days around Anzac day I have been having problems for nearly two months. Today out of the blue www.hhonors.com actually worked for me. This was after I received a 500 bonus point offer for completing a survey.

Have you actually got the 500 points?

I have also noticed that it is pretty hit and miss as to whether I have a My Way tab

I wonder if the problem is spreading. While I could log in okay I got error message whenever try to access other tab.

I received 500 points that shows up as:

AWARENESS PROFILE BONUS 500

So I assume that is for the survey.

Note that I am not using DNS services from Telstra or any other Australian ISP for my internet connection. I have tested via several routing paths (Australian and USA) and all work ok. If I get a chance later, I will test via Telstra ISP and DNS from Australia.

I did get the 500 points; unfortunatly the only way I was able to ascertain this was to note that my points balance has increased by 500 since last week. Can't get transactions or the My Way tab; that time must have been a lucky chance.

And here I was thinking that you didn't get the offer :)

At work, our ISP is Optus, which may explain why it works from here.

Works fine for me using a local (Australian) dialup connection through Equant and using their DNS.

Its definitely a Telstra ISP issue. I just tried using a Telstra Internet Direct ADSL service using Telstra DNS and received the same reported error. Not sure what is causing it. Unfortunately it will take a little effort to re-configure my PC with Sniffer installed to capture the traffic to see what the problem is. Not sure if I will have time for that before I leave for my trip.

I use a 1500K download spead at home (via Netspace) and a server in Houston at work. I'm unable to open any useable pages from either.

Very frustrating:!: :evil::evil::evil:

Like Lindsay and a few others I've just about give up.

I had this issue a cpl of months ago, but solved it easily.

In my HOSTS file, I now have the following entry:

207.126.107.93 www.hiltonhhonors.com

This resolved the issue for me. Note that if you don't know what a HOSTS file is, or what it does, then this solution probably isn't for you.

Remember to remove it when you think the problems have gone away. HH could change their edgekey server IP's at any stage and that would mean the workaround would break.

hiltonhhonors is where the account information website redirects to, and where I was having the big issues with DNS resolution failing. hiltonhonors.com was fine for me.

The IP address returned for both hiltonhonors.com and hiltonhhonors.com are liable to be different for each user. Such is the joys of load balancing via a third party.
