VERY interesting. They told me tonight they won't book partner flights out past 6 months.

Mentioned of my recent findings in other thread - you might have better luck calling between 2000-2400hrs AEST, YMMV though. The lady I had today was quite nice indeed, she says she unfortunately has to cover the midnight shift often yet I found her the most competent of the lot.

Such is life...

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I see that you now can't browse for Enrich redemptions unless you have points in your account - well done MH, I guess you don't need my Amex transfers anymore.

Unbelievably short-sighted. The one thing they had left was good availability but if you can't confirm that...

That is pathetic. I used to purposely keep 1000 points in my account to be able to check availability. Now it is Malaysian roulette. No way you would transfer points without knowing what the redemption cost would be.

I just did a comparison using the new mileage rates on a Bangkok – Australia – Bangkok itinerary in business class.

Before the last devaluation (removal of the discount for online redemption), this would have cost me 93,500 points return, plus taxes & surcharges. With the end of the online redemption discount, this became 110,000 points + taxes & surcharges.

Under their new system, I now require a MASSIVE 163,400 points for the same itinerary (checked dates from July through to Oct with identical results!
The devaluation is nothing short of disgraceful & clearly MH does not value the custom & support of Enrich members.

Time to switch to another airline I think!

How do the surcharges go with the redemption in the new system as they used to be pretty hefty when I used them in the old?

I didn't get that far, as I had insufficient points to complete the transaction. And agreed, before they were definitely expensive.

I tried to work out what a redemption would cost but failed miserably with only 1038 miles in the account. Can't seem to book SYD-LHR as one journey any more either (online anyway)

Gday

I'm a bit confused? How did you see the 163,400 redemption if you dont have enough points in your account to complete the transaction? I thought it didnt show you anything unless you had enough. I cant see anything with my 1012 points. Just says 'no fare available'.

Anyway judging by your experience i think the SYD-KUL J fares i booked prior to the deval are the last for me. Based on your example the amount of points required for Enrich are not even remotely close to any other FF program.

Big data guru Mark Ross-Smith has joined Malaysia Airlines as Head of Loyalty and Enrich. This will surely mean some positive changes to their program!

Good with data, hopefully he knows what to do with it. You can spin data any which way, but a win win would be nice.

He's certainly got the right mindset from what I've read here and elsewhere.
Whether he can persuade MH to deliver a program that encourages flyers and other points collectors (noting that Amex transfers to Enrich) is the big question

So I was reading Australian Business Traveller this morning and reading an article about Malaysian Airlines.

A cornerstone of this is the recent appointment of Australian Mark Ross-Smith – a loyalty consultant and champion of ‘big data’ – to head the Loyalty & Enrich portfolio.

I have known Mark for a few years, so congrats on the new job.

Maybe we will get a Malaysian Airlines representative on AFF, I will have to ask him.

Hopefully Qantas and Malaysian Airlines can work closer to together.

Malaysian Airlines used to have excellent seat pitch on their 747s to London, 34 inches against the 31 inch of the other carriers.

It will require a change of attitude from at least one side. While I know Malaysia returns the favour in low earning on competitive routes, it must be said that the behaviour of Qantas in deeming Malaysia Business Class to be Economy for earn is probably the most childish thing in any loyalty program anywhere,

Gday

Honestly this new bloke better do something and fast. I booked KUL-SYD before the devaluation and it was 55,000 one way in J. This week i logged on and viewed the current prices and they were between 159,000- 172,000 for the same ticket. WTF? Enrich is probably worse than AirNZ Airpoints now. The only upside is if you already have tickets booked under the old prices and want to change dates then it is wide open. Probably because so one has enough points to redeem anything now!

Enrich was not a great program. From here it will be interesting to see the developments with Enrich now they have a big data expert on board.

Enrich has some interesting quirks that most don't know about (partner platinum status, generous soft landings etc).

I too am looking forward to seeing what becomes of the FFP. Exciting times ahead!

Congratulations, and good luck with your new adventures!

Chances are you probably cannot comment too much about it from now on .....

Wise choice to appoint someone who knows everything about loyalty programmes. Hope they let you work and change things for the better.
