Double SC's - A mere Marketing tool or Doom for WP?

Just a question/observation, because of DSC, haven't most of the "original WP's" now just become P1's? So you would have only gained benefits. And people like me who have been SG for over 10 years and always just missed out on WP have finally be able to gain some benefits that we appreciate and will keep working hard to maintain. Especially when you get it by flying Y all the time.

I think that is a little harsh. I'd like to think that if I complain it is for a legitimate reason. I think I have some genuine concerns about what I perceive as an increase in status members and an erosion of benefits.

True. I've also thought the same after reading the posts that supported the general "superior point of view" of the OP - as a 7+ year Plat/Plat+.......BTW, one of those years I would have qualified as a Plat1 (but it never existed) there was never a moment that I thought I was better than anyone else!

How about all the other people that have flown many years achieving sufficient SC to earn P1 in the past?.......just because it's a newly created term - it doesn't mean it's new

FTR, this 16+ year member has only ever received 1 DSC offer.......it was this year & it was very well received!

Sorry I'm not sure I understand amaroo, are you suggesting my posts supported a "superior point of view"' or am I, with my usual incompetence, misinterpreting your post?

I have had two DSC offers in the past 3 years but due to my OCD nature I book my travel well in advance and so did not make any bookings for those promotions.
As a point of reference I have never been "comped" or yet come close.
I would speculate that there are likely to be a few new P1's thankyou to DSC's but they will be a drop in the ocean in comparison to those achieving status without DSC. I believe that this is applicable to ALL levels in QFF

I'm expressing my opinion......I think, reasonably without insult or sledge. All this, I'm more important than anyone else is a drag......FFS, unless you're in F you're just another somebody with some status to QF or any other airline for that matter.

I suspect there are more deaths than births.....lounges are huge on any peer comparison. IMO the ones that are complaining are the ones that would find something to complain about no matter what the reality.

You reply - taking offence to my post!

I reply - as is the traditional method.

Thanks for that. I know a lot of my posts can come across as DYKWIA, but it is in jest and part of the whole character for humour. I thought I had offended you and wanted to make sure I hadn't. I know I can come across as a bit of a nob at times.

Threads like this do no one any good. It's just a muck raking exercise that upsets the helpful, & normally happy environment that AFF provides.

FWIW, I enjoy your posts......particularly the DYKWIA the best!

So much posturing in one thread!
I do roll my eyes at people who say that there should be a lounge specifically for paid F passengers as well as P1 and CL.
What right do P1's have to be in the F lounge if it for paid F passengers?

The spend argument is a mute point as well, I'm WP based on 90% domestic travel and no DSC's but due to the nature of my job I am always travelling at very short notice and full prices. In many ways my spend could be worth more to Qantas than someone who JASA's or purchases their J tickets 6 months out.
If it wasn't for the F Lounge and WP perks I would direct my international travel elsewhere as Qantas isn't a great Y carrier, especially into Europe and China where i do most of my travel (The Europe access will improve with the Emirates deal).

I read the other day that someone would be embarrassed to come out of the F lounge and turn right when boarding the plane. My travel is self funded so I feel I have as much right to hold my head up as someone turning left on their company travel account.

At the end of the day the lounges are about securing Qantas business and it is their decision to make. As long as I can get a seat in the lounge (always have) I'm not fussed who joins me in there.

Nicely said and so refreshing - just wish on my self funded Dom travel I could get back to Plat :(

However without the DSC offer and JASA's I'd be struggling to retain Silver this year as I've directed most of my travel to DJ.

Re: WP for the first time ever

Incorrect. WP can advance seat select on ANY flight, Dom or Int.

"When you make a booking in Premium Economy, Business or First, your seat will be allocated at the time of booking based on your seat preference in your Qantas Frequent Flyer profile. You can make changes to your seat using Advance Seat Selection."

"When you make a booking in Premium Economy, Business or First, your seat will be allocated at the time of booking based on your seat preference in your Qantas Frequent Flyer profile. You can make changes to your seat using Advance Seat Selection."

...and the next paragraph says...

If you make a booking in Economy, your seat preference will be allocated at the time of Check-in from remaining available seats unless you have already selected a seat using Advance Seat Selection or purchased an Exit Row Seat.

Advance Seat Selection is generally available for anyone on international flights. What varies is whether it is complimentary or not.

Re: WP for the first time ever

yes oz_mark,, I know that,, my original post was about the fact that as an SG you can select a seat in emerald city (which, it seems should be renamed wa*#ers paradise) when you make your booking. you don't need to wait until T80.

back ot,, dsc offers are a marketing tool that seems to be working based on the number of people here who are climbing the status ladder based mainly on the availability of them..

Not sure where it's been mixed up, your original post said WP can only do advanced seat selection on DOM flights (which i was correcting). as a SG yes you can select seats in emerald City, but up until T-80 you will find the first 2 rows blocked off. It's generally the same for each class too.

That would make sense with the experience MrsH had.

sutho58 what row were you able to select?

Finally now the myth is busted can we refer to what was formerly known as emerald city as the sapphire shed? :p
