I'll start, sure you can do better. Wait for PER-SIN to reappear and go on sale. No overnight accom needed, <$1000 for J return, 160SCs return. Book as many as needed consecutively.

$6.25 an SC, plus PJs and a sky bed and the arvo in Sin! :)
Moreover, the sales are replicated ex AKL in NZD. (ends in a week)

All via East coast Oz in business - it may be worth looking to the USA.

e.g. AKL-xMEL/SYD/BNE-LAX round trip in Business will earn 520 SC minimum.

Do you have $7k or thereabouts to spend on P1? (You do need to get to NZ first!)

I'm not as hardcore as you guys but am planning on retaining my silver status (yes I know - it's still a big feat for a small fry like me).

I've got 50 SC's so far and need to conjure up another 140 SC's before my re-assessment at the end of August.

Is there a quick weekend trip I could possibly make to get that (which doesn't cost me too much $)?

Have a look at MEL-xSYD-OOL in J fro 160 SC.

Just as a point of comparison, $50 to get Gold Membership of this forum and a further $630 will get you Corporate Membership of the Qantas Club for a year... that will be about half the cost of a status run, and might offer you better value than QFF Silver.

(Sorry, only just saw that you're moving to the US, making Qantas Club vastly less useful.)

No it's ok. I've actually thought about that! Might go get myself registered for a ANZ Black credit card and get those 50,000 plus the $422 off for Qantas Club for the year. Anyone got thoughts on this?

Guys does MEL-AKL on EK 388 F using QF flight numbers (QF8761/2) earn 120 SCs per way ?
That's what the calculator says though unsure if it's wrong again

Thanks

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

I think it would be 60 per way, it's EK metal, so under the new system it halves the points. You would get 120 if it was QF metal.

That's not correct. As long as the flight is booked under a QF code you earn Status Credits at the QF rate, regardless of whether you are flying on QF or EK metal.

What? Its a qf code so qf earning. 120 sc is correct

If you're that short of PS, first question would be is it worth it, what are you looking to get out of PS status? Runs to obtain/maintain SG is at a stretch reasonable, runs to obtain PS can be a waste of money, as QP membership would probably not cost that much more.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I agree with CaviAck in that you need to be clear of the benefit you want from PS, but if you're determined to get those 55 points them MEL-ASP rtn as flexible economy. That'll get you 60 points. I suspect there will be cheaper options, but ASP is lovely this time of year.
