Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

The ASAs (or Points + Pay; QF itself doesn't really know what to call them) that are still available online value the points very badly, to the point where you'd be better off paying cash instead of using your points in most cases.

Points plus pay is indeed not good value. Slightly better (but still not good enough to really use) if your points source is Amex, is to use the points directly in Amex to buy flights - at least that give one whole cent per point value.

Of course, of the points are in Amex, why would you be using them for QFF or 1c per point bookings when there are many much more valuable redemption programs available?

I need 430 SC to retain platinum by Aug 30. Should I bother with doing a SC run? I am based in Sydney.

Also I used half a million points to book business class return from Sydney to Paris in Oct for 2 people. WIll I get SC for those flights?

It will cost you a small fortune. How much do you estimate Platinum to be worth to you?

Did you use the half a million points to book a Classic award (as seems likely with Paris as destination)? If so, no SCs.

Well, I kinda like going to the first class lounge. And the food is better at the business class lounge when i travel domestic.

Is it possible to get a guest pass for the first class lounge for when I travel to Paris?

I think that bridge might just be a little bit too far. Realistically, we're talking about spending at least a thousand or two for first class lounge access (and a few other benefits which you may or may not be interested in).

I'd do it - I maintained platinum last year basically solely through the use of status runs after several years of being platinum from work travel then changing jobs - and I plan to do it again this year. But it's mostly because I'm getting fairly close to LTG and really, really want to get there.

As a stand alone exercise, probs not worth it.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

It can also be useful to bring down requal levels for the next year. If you already have future plans that will amount to close to 1200SCs then by shelling out now, you have WP for 2-3 years instead of SG for 2 years only. Additionally, if you fly Int Y normally, then you get seat selection which can be worth a little bit etc. It all adds up, but will it add up enough to justify it?

Might get lucky and be guested in by another AFF member.

I thought of that as well, although in that case, it would be doing a run for 200SCs next year rather than trying to get 430 now.

What are your time and budget constraints?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Time is per the note, now to the end of June 2015

Budget, well I would prefer to keep cost as low as possible, as its what I would need to retain P1, which as times goes on I don't see a lot of benefit with (from what people are saying, I am only 3 weeks in and zero flights), but just keeping my options open as such over the next 11 months

Heading to USA at all? Do an AA status run. I'm doing a run to get 660 SCs for < $2k in August. Isn't there some cheap J deals around Asia as well that earn okay SCs?

I think FuzzyAus needs to be on QF marketed flights only (for P1 requal), so AA run won't help him.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

SYD-AKL on sale at the moment for $955 return and 160 SCs... that's the cheapest I've seen in a while.

(And 17,000 points if you can combine the booking with the double points offer)

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

I'll start, sure you can do better. Wait for PER-SIN to reappear and go on sale. No overnight accom needed, <$1000 for J return, 160SCs return. Book as many as needed consecutively.

$6.25 an SC, plus PJs and a sky bed and the arvo in Sin! :)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

QF [-]Metal[/-] marketed only?!?!

That's gunna cost!

Is it worth it?
