Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I got an email and a text this morning saying my recent Cellarmasters order was ready for collection at the local BWS. I turned up there tonight and was told by the attendant that they didn't receive any Cellarmasters deliveries today and maybe I could phone tomorrow or something to see if it had arrived. Pretty unimpressed, grumpy email sent!


That happened with me and they never did find the order. Cellarmasters arranged for a new delivery sent directly to my house instead.

Data point on MyBottleShop (who QF WP shared a $50 off $150 voucher for on 22 June). If they send you the wrong items, which they did to me, it's painful to get things rectified. Even though they send to you via Sendle (courier basically), you'll be forced to send the items back to them by post. Once they get it back in perfect condition then, and only then, will they courier the correct items to you. If they have them. No compensation for your troubles and time lost in getting the real items.

Unfortunately, another online retailer in the electrotek sin bin.

Would have to agree that sounds like a deal-breaker in terms of customer relations to me too Electro, it's come up many times before but this business of sending wines back to retailers who offer a 100% "satisfaction" guarantee but who don't accept the onus of return postage/freight is a vexed issue. I don't deal with any e-tailer these days who won't use their courier to pick-up and return the product whether it be the wrong item, faulty or simply not as described, I fully understand that it costs them money etc to offer this service but it's all about scales of economy and competition in the marketplace IMHO. I actually got caught out with some Fuddling Cup CS recently (as described earlier in this thread) and it was only due to the fact that I could access a company freight deal that it became feasible to do a return otherwise it would have been $60 or so using Oz Post:shock: Winestar did something similar to me years ago and I ended up giving the whole dozen away to various friends and associates because it was too expensive to return...cheers, W&D

Returning a product you don't enjoy is one thing, returning a faulty or incorrect product another matter entirely.

I recently bought some Mailly 2006 from DM secret selection, and they sent the 2007 (vastly different quality). When I rang the customer service assistant was profusely apologetic and offered courier to pick up (3 day turnaround), or immediate exchange at another shop. I was still frustrated, but the response I received means I will continue to use DM.

What electrotek describes is unacceptable, when the retailer made the error.

Another datapoint for MyBottleshop, one of the shipment have gone missing (somehow Sendle have left without authority and admitted this themselves) and somehow they've got the nerve to say it was signed for - how consistent can their story be? Another bottle still haven't been delivered in >4 weeks time citing issues with their supplier. No contact until I've approached them and the lack of phone number is a concern. Won't be buying from them again in a hurry.

Home Hill has had great success with its exemplary Pinot Noirs, consistent multi-trophy and gold medal winners in the ultra- competitive Tasmanian Wine Show. Impressive enough, but pale into insignificance in the wake of winning the Jimmy Watson Trophy at the Melbourne Wine Awards 2015.

We have an allocation of merely 120 bottles of the latest release, the 2016 Estate Pinot Noir. Reviews aren't out till later in the year, though the previous four vintages rated a 95, 96 and two 97 point scores from James Halliday.

The 2016 vintage in Southern Tasmania was commented on by Halliday: "Yields were all up on recent years, but such was vine health that almost all blocks looked balanced. Quality seems to have been shielded by a notable absence of extreme heat during the ripening phase for red varieties in particular."

Review for 2015 (97 points James Halliday): "Manicured estate vineyards and the inclusion of a small amount of whole bunches are the starting line for a wine that is never less than great, the wine show records of this and the Reserve totally deserved. I am well aware of the difference between the two scenarios, what I was drawing attention to is the imputation that Electrotek was bearing the cost of the return freight if I understood correctly, maybe he can enlighten us on that score. cheers W&D

Return freight was paid (reply paid job) but there's no convenience in having to create, print and attach an address label, then go to a post office and queue to lodge a reasonably heavy item. Thankfully I hadn't thrown out the packaging it was sent in. I believe they should have organised courier to collect, ideally swapping for actual items at the same time if possible.

Totally get your frustration and I believe it is well justified reply-paid post or not, I had similar experience with an Ebay purchase that was around the $700 mark and was faulty and not as described and like you had the additional burden of complex repacking (very pleased I hadn't binned/burnt packaging) relabelling, hanging around for no-show courier etc, the reply-paid was appreciated but didn't recompense me for time....
 
G'day DumbAss101, the new Secret Selection Cab Merlot 2011 ($20) is the Will's Domain Bitza Reserve.

It should be drinking well now, and improve if cellared for a few years. I have a high regard for Will's Domain, and the Bitza is a beautiful wine.

Maybe a bit of a sleeper hit - 2013 Kakaba Reserve Adelaide Hills Shiraz is at My Wine Guy at a decent $17.99 a bottle, 95 and 'special value' from JH (It got Mrs chonka's tick of approval so back for another case)

Costco act had a mount pleasant Rosehill 2014 Shiraz for 34.97.
the 7 means it's a clearance item and staff confirmed there was only one left at my store and won't be getting more in .
may be worth checking other Costco's? Rrp is 50ish I think ?

Ending with 9 (eg 19.99) is normal and 0 or 5 is sales/clearance?
What are the codes at Dan's and is there a way to search for those sales/clearance code?
 
I was at DM today and picked up a bottle of Wynns' latest 2015 vintage cab sav that recent scored 98pts for approx $30. Doesn't get much better than that. It should officially be released this week, not sure if they were supposed to sell it yet.
