I didn't say the sandwich makers turn the visit into a rush. I said only spending 15 minutes in the lounge turned the visit into a rush, irrespective of what you eat and/or drink.

The point remains if you have 15 minutes, stuffing around with sandwich making is bad. It is your opinion that 15 minutes is a rushed visit, that's certainly true if you have to stuff around with toasting a sandwich. But as a general 15 minutes in itself does not automatically make a rushed visit. It is highly possible to have a beer and grab some pre-prepared food in 15 minutes in a relatively leisurely manner. That would be more leisurely that finding a food vendor in the general airport, ordering, paying and then waiting for them to make the food.

I also think it is a big assumption to say that the same food is served on the plane. I present an example of a Qantas flight that is sold and marketed as being a dinner service, when in reality it is a snack service. As someone else said our personal schedules may force us into having to find a meal in a lounge or at an airport - a limitation of choice. You took that to mean a limitation of choice in food options. But if we think more broadly I imagine most people would prefer to not eat a meal at the airport at all, if given a choice. Often our schedules make the airport the only meal option.

I was in the SYD F Lounge with a colleague prior to QF7 departure when we saw a youngish, American dude sit down beside us in a recliner and demolish a Big Mac meal with a side of 10 Chicken Nuggets :!: :D

I've seen this at least 3 times in the MEL and SYD F lounges (not counting where parents have brought in happy meals or equivalents for their kids - somewhat more expected). First time, in MEL, a gentleman sat straight at one of the tables, pulled out the burger from the brown bag and polished it off. The lounge staff greeted him normally and seemed to know him / were quite familiar. At first I thought he may himself have been a staff member or worked elsewhere in the airport and knew the team. But two minutes later the front desk attendant brought his BP over and wished him a pleasant flight. He then ordered a beer and moved away.

A bit surprised at first, but I agree - why not? Good on QF for not getting worried about such trivial things.

Yes. Well if people bring their own food into the FLounge it saves QF money, so one would think they would be pleased.

Depends if they are thinking of their customers or themselves. I wouldn't be keen on sitting next to a Big Mac stink in the Flounge

Individuals who return to the lounge after some duty free fragrance sampling are more of a concern (to my nose anyway)!

The quality of outside offering can be better than what is on offer inside the lounge. One thing that comes to mind is Red Rooster in Cairns.

I realise quality can be interpreted differently © :

Would be nice if Red Rooster was available in MEL Domestic.

I've seen one in SYD as well as the one at CNS.

I suppose Red Rooster is on topic. But if I were to suggest CBR airport needs a Kinglsey's?

When we first moved to the Sunshine Coast some bright spark had taken the S out of the Caloundra Red Rooster sign so in our family it has another name.

From what time is the evening plate of the day usually served?
We arrived at the MEL J lounge at 6.15 and three plates were brought out at 6.20.
We asked 5 minutes later and were told that it is served from 4pm and there were no more left.
Back to the toasted sandwiches

Yes I should, I would like to blame the smartphone app, it did something and crashed and posted a quote instead of a edit:shock::confused:
You should edit your post and add in the extra sentence rather than quote yourself in a new post. It's easier to understand and tidier

By way of comparison, I was in a domestic Admirals Club at DFW recently (part of a SYD-DFW-IAH leg) and the lounge was terrible compared to QF domestic lounges. Very limited food, was mainly corn chips and slop and some salad. The best option was a pack of chips. There were some options available for additional charge I think (pre-prepared sandwiches and wraps) but that was about it. There was a comprehensive bar service (just like in the QPs). Was very underwhelmed by the lounge experience there, Domestic QPs are brilliant by comparison.

Given the choices at PER international, whatever the lounge has is a plus. I don't remember anything fancy - usually a hot choice plus cold meats and soup. In general, if the lounge has ice cream, I'm happy. In the morning raisin toast and a flat white...

Happy wandering

Fred

I'm with whoever said they don't expect an actual 'meal', as opposed to some food to eat/snack on. I don't think the offerings in the QP or J lounges are anything to write home about, but I can satisfy any hunger I may have with stuff that tastes OK. If I'm really hungry and there is a palatable hot meal available then that is a bonus but I never actually expect or plan for that. As long as the licorice allsorts/jaffas etc. are available I'm happy! ;)

The food at QP are not too bad as there is always a choice of cold salads, sliced meats, soup and a hot option in the evening. Nothing too fancy but does the job.

The selection is quite good if you like oily sloppy beef/lamb/vegetarian curries. :( When I do put that slop on my plate I try to eat the meat only and it amazes just how much slop is left behind on the plate. Eek.

Some of the salads Qantas has been providing recently are getting better. I like eating healthier these days so the variety of salads interests me more.
