Nobody is forcing you to eat the same thing on every visit. There are other options.....

Like someone else said, you can't expect $100 meal on a $100 fare. The food is available and free, if you don't like it, you have a choice.

That's a point, it's the same choice each time.

Flying J you may spend a lot more than $100. The food selection is a bit better in the J lounge but considering the cost of J flights it could be a lot better than what it is. Still I managed to find plenty of food to eat and something that I liked.

I was at BNE J lounge last weekend, Beef Curry. Melbourne J Lounge yesterday, same Beef Curry.

Perth J lounge has a Pizza Oven, and the pizza's freshly made are pretty good and are always making new ones, hardly run out (have only been to the lunch services)

I think every lounge has a bit of a specialty, Darwin had hot chips and gravy when I visited, Adelaide usually has a variety of hot options and additional salads.

I have noticed the "healthy options" have increased a lot, plenty of salad options and fresh fruits. There is usually something for everyone to eat, and in most cases depends on what time of day you go as to the actual choice on offer.

They are well ahead of some of the lounges in Asia that I have been to.

Self serve, if you have 15 mins to down a beer and grab a snack I do not waste it making a toasted sandwich or waiting to make a toasted sandwich.

If all you really have is 15 minutes, is it really worth the stress/hassle/rush of even going to the lounge to down a beer and some snacks only to give yourself indigestion and then be served some food on the plane 30 minutes later?

My only issue is who on earth thinks chicken wings (and not even jointed chicken wings, but the whole flappy thing) are a good idea to serve people who are about to be flying on a plane with fabric everywhere the chicken-y fingers can touch.

I did serve myself a conservative plate of potato...spirals (möbius strips?) last week at the Sydney QP, and I was happy to eat another larger plate immediately thereafter. And that's anyone needs: bottom shelf chardonnay and endless fried potatoes. My lifehack is to serve the chardonnay with a glass of ginger ale so you can cleanse the palate after every confusing sip.

All jokes aside, I hear in the J lounge they get sour cream with their deep fried whatsits. Typical 1%ers.

MY point exactly which is why the sandwich makers are a problem, it turns it into a rush as you say. But I can easliy down a beer and bowl of spag in that time.

I've found that most times there's some sort of "hot" option that's not terrible. ADL seems to do this best out of the QCs that I've been to.

I used to think that, until my last two VA flights where there was a Green Curry and a very decent Sausage Roll the second time. But I will agree it is far more miss than hit.

Nothing at all in either MEL or PER on Thursday evening. The menu signs in both lounges indicated times of the hot lunch service, no mention of hot dinner and indeed none in evidence :(

I see from yourself and a few others that I may have been unlucky.

IMO VA Lounge Catering isn't giving QF any competition and vice versa. Can't see anything improving either of their offerings except bigger dollars spent.

Princess Fiona - was this the regular or the J lounge?

I didn't say the sandwich makers turn the visit into a rush. I said only spending 15 minutes in the lounge turned the visit into a rush, irrespective of what you eat and/or drink.

Well I have seen plenty of people do it (and have done it myself when given meal vouchers by Qantas due to delays) and have never seen any signs saying you can't.

I was in the SYD F Lounge with a colleague prior to QF7 departure when we saw a youngish, American dude sit down beside us in a recliner and demolish a Big Mac meal with a side of 10 Chicken Nuggets :!: :D

Exactly. They're far too inconsistent. Food seems to be served in a very short window (if at all) and if you travel at any other time you're SOL. It's a big reason why QF are still miles ahead overall IMO.

When travelling for work I have to make do with the QP.My expectations are low and with the soup and some salad I am OK.But I will never forgive them for getting rid of NPPPs.
When with mrsdrron I get to go to the J lounge.Quite frankly it really isn't that great for food.usually a curry and mrsdrron doesn't eat curry. She reports that last Friday at SYD it was a pork and pasta dish which was pure slop and the only reason it had pork on the label was that at some stage there was pork nearby.
On I occasion travelling for work I did get an opup. The food that day in the SYD J lounge was awful. So I went to the QP for my usual soup and salad.
As for some of the healthy options I don't consider kale and quinoa foods.

I have done that in AA lounges but never thought I'd see that at a QF lounge, let alone an F lounge.

Please tell me you broke it to him gently :D

Haha!! We didn't as we were too busy picking ourselves up off the floor having witnessed it and 5 minutes later he had disappeared down the escalator again. We watched him walk in and have his BP scanned so definitely had Lounge Access.

Apologies !! This was the VA Lounges. Introducing confusion to the thread !!

Still on topic so all good. At least you didn't veer on to a political comment...

Makes more sense. I was wondering why a WP1 would be schlepping it in regular QC lounges. ;)
