OK, for future reference I guess it is safe to say that if you're self employed its pointless trying to deal with citi...

Yes 100% - and have been for 30 years.

I just called Citibank in city branch in Melb - asked is there anybody in branch I can talk to discuss my application refusal - was informed branches are soley investment focused - if I want to talk to somebody must call Customer Service - aint that the greatest oxymoron of all time - Customer and Service with Citibank.

Shintarox, CruiseElite, we are all in the same boat. Citibank just doesn't want to know self-employed customers.

We're hitting our heads against a brick wall trying to get anywhere with Citibank; they just aren't interested, and in some ways, we're probably better off.

So, now, which non AMEX card is worth looking at? Doesn't seem like anyone is matching the rewards points offers that Citibank are dishing out?

I just want the 60K points - I was going to churn about 30K a month throgh the Platinum card for 6 months or so then try to upgrade to the Citi Select as I want points for SQ - QFF points not that useful to me.

I have WWEDRCC and NAB Platinum Visa so I guess I will use either of those. But I am not used to accepting NO for an answer - if I only I could get face to face with somebody they would get a decent lesson in life.

Cruiser - I'm in exactly the same mind-set and position. I want SQ not QFF and I also have a WWEDRCC and ANZ Platinum. Mate, I never take NO for an answer, but after spending hours on the phone and lodging a formal complaint, I don't know what else to do. They told me I had to wait 6 months before I could re-apply...

I also want to upgrade to Citi Select, as I could put hundreds of thousands of business transactions through a year.

Any ideas on what we can do?

No idea what to do mate - If Westpac had not screwed us over with their cards I would not be too concerned.

I would have still applied to get Citi just to bank the points - I will use my Qantas points at some time.

Double dip!
Use Westpac Amex (Kris Flyer Platinum) for BAS and all other tax bills then use Woolies everyday rewards card for point a dollar on QF for expenses where vendors don't take Amex.

Mrscove and I both have Citi Select and we are business folks.
They did need our tax assessments plus they called our tax accountant and called me twice.
Lending $80k unsecured is risky so I can understand why they are very careful.

Actually I use Centurion for everything I can - will prolly use WW Visa o r NAB Visa - not sure which.

Watch out for the Centurion points capping!

Because Citi did it super tough in the GFC I get points switched each month to avoid an Ansett wipeout possibility.
Amex has emerged as a powerhouse after their near death experience during the GFC so I understand the idea of warehousing points waiting for a transfer bonus.
It is all just a game but it gives you a buzz when you have a big win.
Woolies stopped my card working after I bought some crown jewels so that affected a vendor I was dealing with on another transaction. Credit cards can be tricky when the Bank thinks a transaction could be fraudulent.
On the other side getting a new card or a limit increase is harder than 3 years ago.

Have applied for this card for my wife and will for me shortly but still struggling to work out if we enroll in the QFF offer or transfer to SQ (we are members of both).

Seems to me that for Y QFF is better, i.e.
$299 buys 60K points plus 1:1 earn. 60K point buys 1 return flight to Hong Kong plus about $340 in fines. So cost to HK = ~ $640

For SQ
$250 buys 40K points plus 3:2 earn. 40K won't get you that HK flight ($55K less 15%) and fines would be $420

Whereas when we get to J SQ becomes better, i.e. a one way flight to HK in J is 60K points on Qantas vs. ~38K on SQ (45K less 15%) though fines still higher.

In trawling through here have seen some references that SQ points are worth 2 QFF points and just can't get that value out of them, for those who have chosen NOT to take the QFF option any pointers on how you value those SQ vs QFF points?

Yes understood my friend - once I reach the 500K cap I will switch to Westpac SQ Amex - always hoping for bonus on Amex->SQ transfer.

How often would you say Amex run these promo's? I've seen this mentioned on the site a few times now and was wondering how it all works.

Only been an Amex holder for a couple of years.

That sounds good to me... but i have just applied AMEX edge... so i might not pass the credit test.

Also depends on what credit limit you asked for. From what I've read here you need a miniumum $6k limit for Platinum Visa.

I recently applied/recieved Qantas Amex Discovery so am waiting till the last week of May to apply for this card which by then I will have cancelled my Westpac Krisflyer card.

Hi Guys,

Received this Citibank 60 K Promo Offer in the mail last week was going to Rip it up when I noticed they were giving it for 50 % Off annual fee ( $ 125 OFF ) first year.

I was not planning to apply before as I feel a $ 250 fee for 60 k points is to high for applying a new card, but $ 125 is worth it. ( tipped the scale over for me )

I have received a few call from them already at work asking one stupid question after the other send additional docs after all information is on the application already.

Hope they take a decsion if they want to give me a card as people at work feel I am having some Financial Difficulties.

I have a online saver with Citibank already with 30 k deposit ( need to transfer out as 4 month promo over ) so reason may have been targeted.

They still need a ID after telling them I have given all the ID when opened the savings account. Hopeless

Coming to how you all can apply for the reduced fee
Visit citibank.com.au/specialoffers
And type code PDW3B2CA ( Reduced Fee $ 125.00 )

Same conditions
Apply and be approved before 31/05/2011
Points applied after first spend

Please note does not say anything regarding transfer points to Qantas for a additional fee or anything

In my case I not interested to transfer any points to Qantas so didn’t bother

Let see if they issue me with a card or not don’t care any more :-|

That is just brilliant, thankfully have only applied for my wife so far!

Now thats an interesting post - I have been knocked back by Citi twice - I wonder would it sway them at all if I had 20K / 30K / 40K sitting in account with them before I apply - I might just give that a try.

Applied this morning and within 1 hour CitiBank called here at work. I hadn't even told the boss I had applied!

Fortuantly said the right things etc

I've checked online and it has gone from conditionally approved to approved. However I've had two emails from CitiBank with no actualy content. Could be my email system though..

Anyway just thought I'd update everyone :)
