fail...

my gf applied for the card only asking for a credit limit of 5k... so she got downgraded to a gold... ><

she cancelled it all... wonder if she can do another application later...

Bugger, this just happened to me too. I think I didn't ask for a big enough credit limit. They automatically 'downgrade' your application to a Gold, the cheeky monkeys :)

A couple of problems with that assumption. You don't get the free points that come with the Platinum promotion and you can't transfer to QFF. I had to make 3 separate phone calls and a web search to get to this point but basically there is no point pursuing it, I'll cancel the card. Couldn't do that now as 'they are closed for the weekend'. The alternative apparently is to just never activate the card - sounds like I'd come home one day to a demand for annual fee though, so I think I'll cancel next week.

Hi Anyone here have received their 60k QFF points?
still undecided whether i should or not
i called they said it can not be converted to QFF but some here said you can...
im confused!!

Are we STILL discussing this! Their terms and condition say you can so go and get a copy. Go to this page

Citibank Platinum - Credit Cards - Citibank Australia - Citibank Australia

Print the Terms and conditions, the one you want is the one marked with a ^

^ There are two rewards programs available. Unless you choose the Citibank Qantas Rewards Program, you will automatically be enrolled in the Citibank Rewards Programs. The annual Citibank Qantas Rewards fee is $49. The Citi Qantas Rewards Program is subject to the terms and conditions of that program. Membership of Citibank Qantas Rewards does not entitle you to membership of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program. You must apply separately to Qantas for this. Once Qantas Frequent Flyer points have been credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account they cannot be reversed. You must be a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program in order to earn or redeem Qantas Frequent Flyer points. Membership and points of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program are subject to the terms and conditions of that program. A joining fee applies. Citibank Qantas Rewards can be requested on card activation or after approval of new card by contacting CitiPhone on 1800 818 008.

Even worse, the second they approved you for the Gold card that you didn't request, they put in you in their system as an existing Citibank customer. Regardless of whether or not you activate the card, you now can't reapply for a Platinum to get the points (nor apply for any other Citibank creditcard) for 9 months.

You can, however, write to ask to have your original application reviewed, changing your requested credit limit / stated income / etc as you like, within 3 months of the application date. It goes under the original application, so you get the 60K points if its approved the second time.

Applied for the Platinum card based on the 60,000 bonus points and needing a VISA card to earn decent points.

Was declined... even though my income is above $100K.

I called and asked why, but after 45 mins on the phone, they would not provide any details whatsoever. Having recently applied for the AMEX Platinum Edge and Woolworths Everyday card, both being approved with minimal fuss, I can't help but think Citibank have made a mistake or are just plain useless.

I had spent a considerable amount of time submitting all the information they requested along with answering many of their calls, and honestly I am absolutely disgusted with they way they have treated me. Out of professional respect, the least they could do is explain why they were not willing to approve my application.

I lodged a complaint to Citibank and was called the following day by a Team leader who was just as hopeless as the standard support members. He mentioned my limit approved was less than the minimum ($6,000) for the Platinum card and that he could not assist me anymore.

Can't say I'll be EVER dealing with Citibank again; not impressed!

Unfortunately I need a VISA card that earns decent reward points, and would prefer to send these to KrisFlyer as opposed to Qantas.

Both those applications would be on your credit record, so they might just be looking to avoid people signing up for the points who don't have much real interest in the card. That said, interest in a sign-up bonus should be a good thing, shouldn't it?

As far as I understand it, no bank will ever give you a straight answer to why you were rejected, because they choose not to publish their 'selection criteria', it's not just CitiBank.

Incidentally, I just applied for the same - AMEX and Woolies - before Citi, and was similarly approved for the first two and rejected by Citi, despite easily meeting their eligibility criteria. I did enter a desired credit limit below the minimum Citi Platinum range though, so I'm hoping having the application reviewed might still net me the bonus points.

Beyond the points I have absolutely no interest in CitiBank; generally speaking the bank seems fine, but the call centres they use can be so excruciating that it's just not worth it.

Ahh, ok, I think I'll do that. Even though as Abarker above, I have had a quite odd back and forth application relationship with Citi, I could use the 60K points and the 1:1 VISA is something I'll use too as the EDRCC has its own inbuilt limitations (HSBC mainly).

Dealing with the call centre is not really funny at all but provided I never really needed to deal with them the relationship would possibly work. I almost never call my other banks outside of the initial application and card activation.

I did actually ask the Citi CSR I first spoke with if I'd made a mistake by not asking for a large enough credit limit but she wouldn't (probably couldn't) answer on that point. I'm pretty sure from comments here that this is the problem though.

Strange however, given the number of phone calls and faxes from both myself and Citi during the application phase that no-one thought it might be worth mentioning that in order to even have a chance of success with the Platinum I'd need to ask for a higher limit.....

I agree - why they ask customers to set a desired credit limit and not tell them there's a minimum is beyond me. You'd think that, since they offer a 60k sign-up bonus for the Platinum card only, they would understand that customers are signing up for the particular card and not any of the Citibank suite.

Hey, me too but I will perhaps be tempted when they call me to offer their wares when they are looking to increase their customer base...

Unfortunately their bonus FF points have now been increased to 100k points to get me interested again, since I am not worthy of their plastic at the moment.... their loss not mine he he...

But then again, I may just tell them to shove it too...:p

But I know companies like these never throw out your contact details, so I know they will be back at some stage, just a matter of time really...

It still says 60,000 bonus points at Citi website. Where did you find the offer with 100,000 bonus points?

It hasn't.... thats now what it will take to get me interested in applying for their plastic again... :p:p:p

During my efforts to win over the call centre drones, I did mention to them that I have applied for a few cards lately, and that this may have caused a "red flag" within their credit limit criteria. Their response was that this was not the case.

I do own my own business, although I do pay myself a wage. However, I am the sole director of the company. In one of the other threads, I recall someone asking a forum member if he/she was self-employed. I assume Ciitbank don't like self-employed customers?

Yes it seems that citi have a problem with self employed people... I think citi heavily weigh ones earning capacity not current wealth.... mind you my application got declined on 100k+ salary... pfft thats an 80's mentality of how to lend funds... or perhaps they know us self employed people always pay before the due date, hence not the credit trapped cash cow they are looking for...

I did not experience any issues with my new card.
There must have been a lot of staff training because the call centre has improved 100 % .
It took a while for Citi to finalize everything to issue the card but a bank needs to be careful doling out chunks of credit.
I went Select only to avoid the points capping on Platinum.

Yes dammit - got rejected again yesterday - self emplyed but showing income 70K to 80K last 2 FY's.

Anybody have any suggestions where to go from here - I just want those 60K points.

Has anybody ever gone into a Citi Branch to seek redress?

Guess you got the standard letter with many words to say NO...

At the bottom of such letter it also mentions "Should your circumstances change, please submit a new application"

The problem I have with this is that most peoples circumstances change all the time, i.e. working longer, living in the same place longer, earning more etc... However what they fail to tell you is WHAT changes are required before you get the secret handshake...

I know these companies never tell you why approval is not given, however a statement as above about reapplying is so vague, it may as well not be in the "No Thanks" letter....

Again, their loss not ours.... thats the way I see it

Just got a copy of my credit file from Veda, nothing there that should be holding back my application for credit with Citi so their refusal to give me credit would seem to be because I am self employed... :D

I did the same 2 months ago - after they refused me second time - been knocked back again since then.

Self employed by any chance...?
Yes 100% - and have been for 30 years.

I just called Citibank in city branch in Melb - asked is there anybody in branch I can talk to discuss my application refusal - was informed branches are soley investment focused - if I want to talk to somebody must call Customer Service - aint that the greatest oxymoron of all time - Customer and Service with Citibank.
