A380 in Y - best seats (80A/80K/71D/50C etc.)

I certainly hope not.

We earn our status the hard way and don't want it diluted.

Do the time and get the rewards I say.

Haha.... fair enough.

There are some ways for NB's and no status to do seat selection online with QF though, if you look hard enough.

When I was a QP NB I called them and they were able to allocate my seats for me, however that being said, those seats were already taken, and that might be the case. Might I suggest 71D if you’re not able to snag 80A/K.

You can check the current seating allocation by plugging your booking details into http://www.checkmytrip.com/ ; also it may have been more so your QP status that allowed you to preallocate previously more so than anything. I'm not sure how it works now with only PS ++ being able to select online.

I figured that, as QP had to account for something. Anyway, my good experience was mid-2010 so I don’t see why there’d be a problem now.

Just got 80K MEL-LAX in April enroute to BOS, and the same on the return a week later, happy days for the cheapest nastiest ticket I could find :)

I was in 16k last time on Nancy Bird Walton, but as i am paying for this one I'll be curious to see what she is like from another perspective.

Good news for folks worried about their status being diluted, I called the QP Service Centre and they told me "that row has been blocked off" and there was nothing they could do to help me. I have to wait until 7 days prior to the flight before trying to reserve 80A or 80K.

You get what you pay for, obviously. But would have been nice to snag the seat since I'm so close to silver anyway.

Did they allocate a seat for you at all being a QPNB?
I just called back to ask for 71D as I forgot to ask for it the first time around.

The woman I spoke to said that it was already taken. She then went on to ask where else on the plane I'd like to sit and allocated me an isle seat near the front. Probably should have asked for a window instead?

Look at the seat maps and choose what you think to be the best seat, but if 80A/K is blocked off and 71D taken, I doubt you’ll get 80A/K by the time you can look yourself unfortunately.

Glad to hear you were able to be allocated a seat though… did you allocate for the return flight too? May as well allocate whatever you can while you can… this early on.

I asked about 80A/K & 71D for the return flight (late march). Already taken.

But yes, I was able to select another seat. The woman I spoke to was quite helpful actually.

You really need to get in early for these seats.

I have not yet flown on a QF A380 but had 3 recent bookings on a QF A380 which were all booked well in advance. As a Platinum I had issues as 71D was pre-allocated on all of the flights and either 80A or 80K was already taken on 2 of the flights.

I have been allocated 80J/K - I'm travelling with my daughter. I have also been given the ability to choose 50A/B/C.

Which seats should i choose? My daughter loves window seats....

Well you risk having someone next to you in either option...

Row 50 risks a bassinet user but close to exit.

80K is awesome for getting in/out and stretching your legs, but it's reported that 80J and 80B are misaligned with the seat in front (ie. IFE screen).

I'm trying 80A on Tuesday myself for the first time so we'll see....

Agree that the experience in 80A or K is great if travelling alone, however a companion in 80B or J will have a far less enjoyable experience. I had tried last year to get 80A and C, hoping for a spare in between but was advised Qantas seating would no longer do this (if they had previously). I ended up taking 80A and 81A due to my daughters window view preference, although I told her 95% of trip from SYD-LAX is water. As the 380 was ultimately replaced by a 747 my daughter and I travelled together in row 70, the first of the 2x4x2 rows.

However - my miss mini yqy (6yo) will be in 80K as she needs a window /mumble even though we will be flying at night and there is nothing to see /mumble - else i will have a tantrum - therefore i will be stuck in 80J.

Hence is better for me to sit in 50A/B/C as it hs better leg room than 80J?

I will defer to someone else on the row 50 question.

You would be able to easily step over little miss to get out I imagine.

Also seeing as she will have extra legroom I'm sure she will be very excited that Dad has got her one of the "best seats on the plane" :)

Row 50 (or 51 down the right hand side) I found just OK as someone who is 6ft 1. That said, on a LHR-SYD flight, the extra $160 for exit row was worth it. The 66x are less likely to have a baby around I believe.

The 80A tray table is in the armrest between it and 80B (similar for 80K and 80J).

I had 80A/B/C to myself over a year ago - the armrest between 80B and 80C does lift up.

Seat 80K on the new A380 QF

Just got off 80A at LAX this morning.

AWESOME!!!!

This seat overall is the best whY seat I've ever sat in. I can honestly say that I would be quite comfortable in 80A/K on a 380 anytime.

Of course I wouldn't say no to F or J either ;).

I had my backpack on the floor in front (after takeoff of course) and used it as a footrest.

Only downside is that you are almost last off the plane, and combined with arriving just after flights from Shanghai, Seoul and Tokyo meant I had a 2 hour wait in immigration and missed my connection. But really, only F would have truly saved a worthwhile amount of time there.

Sounds good.

Only downside is these seats are now very popular and would be extremely hard to pre-allocate. I booked a flight for 5 months from now and 80AB were the only 2 seats pre-allocated in economy. I ended up in 80K which is no great loss but would hate to think what is going to happen if booking flights rather late.
