its showing as free on expertflyer, it doesn't seem i can book anything yet on the qantas website...

would maybe have to call them up and try...

Give them a call; seems theyll allocated any seat to Bronzes like us as long as its not a exit row/bulkhead seat. So you should be fine to snag 71D.

I wonder if thats true and it'll actually block higher tiers from selecting that seat. If thats the case then thats basically a PS benefit for NB's.....

Prob not entirely true; I assume they keep forward rows free for upper status flyers. What I meant was that all 'other' economy seats are up for grabs excluding exit rows etc.

80A/K and 71D are just economy seats so theres no reason why a bronze can't have them. It just happens that they have extra leg room. Though if a higher status pax requested them, maybe they would be reallocated?

well called up Qantas and yes got 71D allocated to me... i asked about 80A and K and she confirmed they were taken, didn't sound like i would have had a problem asking for them if they weren't... we then went through and confirmed most of the seats for the rest of my RTW trip...

maybe if it had just been a single flight it might have been different but seeing i booked a whole RTW itinerary through them it counted for something???

anyway, seem to have it for now, and maybe i will think about whether i want to keep it or not... been a long time since i flew anything other than a window seat...

I would hope not. Those seats aren't in the "premium zone" so they're fair game. If you get in early enough to request and be allocated it, then it's yours.

Me too. I'm really looking forward to trying out 80A, but I wont get too excited until I've got my butt in the seat. I agree though, they arent in any 'premium zone'...in fact, the QF rep I spoke to was suprised I wanted that seat when I could have sat further up the front (of economy) :D

I booked a late March QF12 (LAX-SYD) towards the end of last year as a QP NB and 80A/K were not available to me (I called QF to ask). Also, Expert Flyer has had both of these seats listed as "Occupied" since then.

I obtained QFF Silver status yesterday. I re-checked Expert Flyer and these seats were still listed as occupied. However the QF seat selection engine listed 80A as available so I snapped it up.

Note: I did add my QFF number to the Expert Flyer prefs when I created my account. It seemed to make no difference however.

I actually paid for a 79J (exit row) T-7day point but I have obviously now forfeited it in favour of 80A because it has access to a power port and I prefer a window seat. I wonder if I can somehow get the money back?

Anyway. I recall seeing someone mention that they used their cabin baggage as a makeshift footrest whilst in this seat. Can anyone tell me if the FAs are likely to disallow this if they see me do it? My ability to do this is going to determine whether I will be able to sleep or not. :) I am actually in two minds about it because if there was an emergency landing required I'd hate to think my bag would be blocking the exit.

I've done this myself: it doesn't block the emergency exit.

One flight I had last year I was told to remove my small backpack from the floor in front of 80K. (It was one of those GCC packs) I complied (as I had to) but had a careful discussion with the Cabin Supervisor disputing the area beside 79J as being an exit.

I was caught up in 'the wash' as it were. The inhabitants of 79B/C were using their rollaboards as foot rests and this caused issues.:-|

On our recent Lax-Syd flight my +1 had this seat....it is a great Y seat with extra leg room, a window, and direct access to the aisle without having to pass your seat neighbours. The major disadvantage is that you are one of the last pax to disembark the A380 so you will be at the end of the Q for immigration / customs etc....I guess only an issuse if you have a tight connection after.

I booked my next flight tickets with a travel agent (paid $80 more than I could buy it myself online). The only reason I went through a travel agent and paid more was because she could book 80A for me.

Was worth it in my opinion. If I booked it myself (cheaper) my only option was to run the risk of purchasing an exit row before the flight.

I don't understand....you could have saved $80 and booked it online yourself, and then rung QF (if you did not have any status with QF) and requested seat 80A...and it will be yours if it was available.

I have secured 80A on my way SYD-LAX in June.. Then on the way back its already taken - so I selected 71D .. for the leg room. I prefer a nice window to sleep against but what can you do.

I booked it with a Travel agent because QF said I could not prebook the seats until online check-in. It seems it may just depend on who you talk to at the time.

If you have PS/SG/WP status with Qantas you can select seats upon booking.

If not you need to wait until 7 days before the flight.

Some agents are able to select seats for non status PAX earlier than 7 days beforehand.

I had no problems ringing QF and requesting 80A and I'm just an NB. The only thing I couldnt request was exit row which is standard for being a bronze.

Yes it seems to depend on who you talk to at QF and I understand the status thing. I do not travel for work only leisure. I have been close to moving from bronze a couple of times but alas not close enough.

I went to the TA and paid more because I wanted to try and have some choice in seats as I do not travel well and didn't want to end up in the middle of 4.

The flight over is at the back in a set of two and the flight over is 80A/B. I spent a lot of time considering my options and this was the best for me.

I have an AA points redemption flight LHR-MEL on QF10 in May and I just called QF tonight to get my QF PNR and ask about seat allocation.

Nice lady at QF was happy to give me 80K. I have no QF/OW status, only a Bronze FF unfortunately. Anyway, I am a happy little vegemite. Will have to do without a footrest but the extra legroom will stop my knee seizing up! A nice bonus will be no-one in the middle seat in Row 80, but that might be too much to hope for.

She did say that seats were subject to change though. Never heard that before. Guess we just have to wait and see and keep fingers and toes crossed!
