A380 in Y - best seats (80A/80K/71D/50C etc.)

I made a booking today on the 90th Sale for April; I was pre-allocated 50C and 53D - both are Bulkhead.

One or both of 80A and/or 80K were available to select from on the 388 flights.

I moved to 80K from 53C but stayed at 50C (front row) on QF94 as I'll be going straight to the office after arrival - that's 10 minutes earlier I could get off the aircraft. FWIW, when in economy I have only ever travelled in 66C (once), 80A/K (5¹/14 times).

I have done both 53? And 80 and prefer forward, much quieter than down the back but if space is necessary then go back.

I did have a spare seat between us, so that does make a difference.

I made a booking yesterday also, pre allocated 50C on both QF11 and QF12. QF11 had neither 80A/K available but QF12 did so I moved down to 80A for the return leg.

If 80A/K opens up on QF11 over the next few months I'll probably move down but if not I don't see that the seat will be that bad.

My QF093 on Dec 5 has now been changed to a 747 and I'm seated in 52A & 52B (bulkhead). Not much space left in Y but EF shows a few seats in PE & Business. I just made an upgrade request (with the promotion that's on - still don't have my email though).
Is the bulkhead on that 747 cramped? Seat Guru says it has limited legroom.

Also am I better off with 90,000 points for PE or 144,000 for Business? (for two)

And what about the return (possibly on A380 on Jan 4?)

dede,

IMHO the answers to these two questions depend upon several more questions.

Do you have lots of spare points?
How much do you value J over PE?
What are the chances of getting a J seat in PE?
Will they be running the A380 on those flights again by that time and if so how much do you value the A380 upgrade versus the B744 upgrade?

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!

Too many questions! My brain hurts - need more bubbles in the First Lounge!!!!

What's the best one to go for again?

I'm a little confused. How can you book a seat when you aren't planning to fly for a while ? QC Bronze on a redemption ticket, what chances would I have ? Love to be able to pick a seat now.

Qantas Frequent Flyers with Silver status and above are able to pre-select seats upon booking.

The higher the status, the greater the range of seats that are available for selection.

Yep, spent a bit over 1 Hour in 80K before being moved to 34D for the remainder of the flight to MEL.

Upgrade was nice; reason for it was not. :-|

We have booked 80A/80B LHR to SYD. A bit worried about the comments about 80B, should we run the risk and change to 80C hoping no one books into 80B. The flight is not until Oct next year but already has a few seats booked.

Too early to say what loads will be like that far out. I would take 80C for now and keep an eye on it. They won't put anyone in 80B until probably 24 hours out.

Thanks jpk - yes I guess they will fill other seats first before a middle, hopefully.
That good Australian dollar rate is certainly enticing people to Europe and the UK.

Hi everyone.

I have return flights on QF11/QF12 in March. Upon completion of this booking I will have earned silver status.

I was hoping to try to snag 80A or 80K but since my current status is QP Bronze I can't do any seat selection until 7 days prior.

My question is: If I call QFF/QP desk and ask very politely to be allocated 80A/K are they likely to help me out? I have an additional 6 paid future bookings in the system. Was hoping this might buy me some flexibility for my USA booking but would understand if they just did things by the book I guess.

When I was a QP NB I called them and they were able to allocate my seats for me, however that being said, those seats were already taken, and that might be the case. Might I suggest 71D if you’re not able to snag 80A/K.

I certainly hope not.

We earn our status the hard way and don't want it diluted.

Do the time and get the rewards I say.

I was just wanting to know peoples experiences with requesting such things. It's really no concern of mine if Qantas granting me and almost already earned priv makes you feel hard done by.

Great. Thanks for this info. I'll give it a go. :)
