A380 in Y - best seats (80A/80K/71D/50C etc.)

The seat selection just opened up (was pretty restrictive up to this weekend) and I snared 80K for my return from LAX to SYD.

This will also be my first trip on the A380 so pretty happy with the seat!

Great to see the photos on post 7 - makes it so much easier to visualise the experience as opposed to what SeatGuru says!

I can see 80A, 80K and 71D (I think) become the most sought after seats in economy on an A380.

I get to experience 80A for the first time in less than 3 weeks. I hope it lives up to all the hype.

From the description it seems like 80A and 80K have the benefits of exit row, aisle and window. You get a window seat but it's almost as easy to get out as an aisle seat. Also you have as much legroom as in an exit row.

But you don't need to pay the exit row surcharge, and you don't need to put up with the congregation of people which sometimes occur around exit rows on longhaul flights.

That's the theory ... I'll know about the reality in 8 days time! :D

vote one for 80A!!
direct aisle acess, extra legroom and a window..
Just make sure you dont have an obnoxious jerk in row 79, although some may say this can actually work in your favour...?:D

Yep, 80A/K are great - no pay and more room than row 79 as everyone treads on their toes! Even with white socks ;)

I had 80A on QF012 on Aug 28 and enjoyed it very much thanks. :)

Even better was that my darling wife had 80B, but shortly after takeoff headed down back a bit further for some more room. :D

I also have 80K booked on QF094 for Sep 22. :D

If travelling with a friend selecting 80A/80K may be the best way to go me thinks. Sure you are not together but who cares when you have headphones on and are constantly dozing :D

What are the loads generally like on the SYD-LAX A380 service? Do people move around in Y after take off to find empty rows for lie flat treatment?

I've only done the route a few times on the A380 (and only ever in PE), but each time the plane has been 100% full in all cabins (sorry, I tell a lie - the first flight did have a few seats free) :)

747 services on the other hand you might have more luck stretching out :)

And you can always use the built-in IM system to chat ;)

Or "congregate" near the bathrooms :D

Ok, booked my flight for Christmas on QF 93/94. Been allocated 51J & 51K although 80A & 80K are both still available. I'm travelling with my mum. Will the bulkhead seats be more comfortable than us both changing seats during the flight?

Dede,

If you can get the spare seat in between you its a toss up.

51 will be quieter being forward of the engines. both rows 51 and 80 get served first.

80 is close to the galleys, but has the greater vertical legroom, do you need this?

Is it a full flight you are on? I suppose christmas will be busy in any case.
cheers

Travelling on Sunday week on QF093 and just looked at EF. The seat next to my mum and me (50C) is showing as blocked - hopefully it stays that way!

Same for the return flight.

Just also booked another trip next June to NY and I've been allocated 50A which was showing as blocked on EF. 80A & K are still available so I might see how the bulkhead seats go in another week to see if I want to change the seat.

Decisions, decisions!

(All above flights are A380)

Change it! Change it! Take the 80A or 80K.

I would take 80A / K over a bulkhead any day.

I've only travelled in 80A - is there a better seat (80A or 80K) depending on your direction of travel?

I'm looking at MEL-LAX return.

It would depend what time of day each of the flights is. serfty can fill you in on the required info once we know that...

QF093 depart MEL 1010 arr LAX 0730
QF094 depart LAX 2320 arr MEL 0755

By all means go for 80A or 80K. :D

However, even though 388 will recommence operations Saturday to / from Asia and Europe, it's not likely to happen transpacific in the next week or three; possibly not before Christmas. :-|
