$10,000 For SC Runs.

Are you crazy enough to spend $10,000 on SC Run's ?

More than 500 views to the thread but just over 30 votes in the poll. Just a tiny percentile of people willing to vote I guess.

Using the iPhone App whilst lazing around on holiday, it has no access to any poll.
I've never been on a status run  if I had to I would go to the US and combine it with a mattress run for HH Diamond
Happy Travels

Personally, I wouldn't spend $1000 on a status run. On the other hand, I may spend a bit more to get more SC's if I am going somewhere - for example, if there was a connection that didn't add to much more to a direct flight.

Although one giant waste of cash - off the top of my head 3500-4500 SC and 10 days of solid flying.

Based on my earning last year, it's more than easy to get 5100 SC's for this cash.

If I get 4500 SC then it is an earn rate of $2.2 Per SC pretty damn good , but someone else here suggested that it is possible to earn upto 7500 SC.

Please tell me on what route I can manage 4500 SC or more with the given budget.

If there's a way to get SC's for 1.33/SC, then I'm yet to find it (and I thought I knew all the hidden gems; there used to be some amazing runs ex-HNL to various places, but they've all jumped up in price over the past few years).

$10k? not worth spending. For sub-5k you can get to-from the USA, get WP (PG) and have $5k in your pocket.

With the devaluation of WP, i'd be inclined to do that, then look at getting a *A Gold Status Match somewhere, and rack up some re-qual on that instead (or look at getting a DJ Status match and re-qual for Velocity Gold; so many options that are better than just one status in one alliance!) :)

Note that 500 views does not imply 500 unique viewers. Each time anyone loads this thread in their browser it registers as a view even if the person have viewed the thread previously.

30 votes in such a poll is quite a high return rate for this community.

$10K would get you a decent number of SC's - between 1000 and possibly up to 7500 depending on what you chose. You also have to factor in other costs like hotels, positioning flights etc.

1) 7500 SC's for $10,000 = Earn rate of $1.3 /SC - Is it possible ?

Do an AA platinum challenge to the states, and spend the rest of the cash on 1c/RDM (2c/EQM) runs.

That should give you ~500,000 EQM and ~1,000,000 RDM, i.e. Lifetime Gold (Oneworld Ruby).

NB, consider that you can buy 55,000 AA miles for 1030 USD, you can buy RDM at 1.87c/RDM.

I would think that your overall earn/burn would be much better on AAdvantage than QANTAS, not even taking into account fuel taxes, etc. I'd also be surprised if you could earn more QFF points than AA points.

2) 1c/RDM (2c/EQM) runs ??? what are these ?? is that QF equivalent of LTG ???

3) That did not sound right because if LTG can be achieved with $10,000 that's 14,000 SC's well that's and earn rate of $0.71/SC

4) But if the $10,000 , had to be spent on SC's @ QF / One World - Targeting A lifetime status.

Where would you go ? What is the MAX number of SC's possible for the money in Question ?

:)

Thanks for the replies , Please keep them coming.

RDM = ReDeemable Mile
EQM = Elite Qualifying Mile

1MM = 1 million AAdvantage miles = Lifetime AAdvantage Gold = Oneworld Ruby = Lifetime QANTAS Silver
2MM = 2 million AAdvantage miles = Lifetime AAdvantage Platinum = Oneworld Sapphire = Lifetime QANTAS Gold

Have a read here:
Elite Status (AA) - FlyerGuide Wiki

Most importantly, miles for lifetime status on AAdvantage don't have to be earnt from flying. You could earn them from credit cards, or dining in the USA, hotel programs, etc.

QANTAS Status Credits can only be earnt from flying.

See the mileage run forum on flyertalk.

Actually that is good percentage of the number of people willing to vote.

I hope the result of the poll is not going to influence your decision or are you waiting and hoping that the poll will confirm your decision?

If you are truly considering this, and want to use AA flights (in premium classes), then you might want to investigate AAIRPASS - Welcome to AAirpass.

AAirpass for Individuals, is designed for people committing to spends over USD10,000.

Your AAirpass included privileges start with an Admirals Club membership, and may end with a Concierge Key (depending upon how much AA likes you & how hard you negotiate).

You will need to contact American Airlines directly for more information, as this is a tailored product offer.

The decision was made by the time I generated this thread , Just working out how to get the Best B**g for my Buck. This thread and the knowledge of all here will get me there "fingers crossed". :):):)

If you can afford it, and it makes you happy, then go for it. Plenty of people spend $10k a year on a hobby.

Not quite. I can get ~$2.00/SC.

If you are serious about doing this SC run then it is time you started doing some of the work researching YUPs/KUPs in the USA. I don't believe people are going to post their most favourite SCs runs as that is just asking for trouble. Too many have disappeared and some people believe it is not a coincidence.

Nothing wrong with giving ideas though. ;)

No one has mentioned Alaskan. F in Alaskan is similar to Yupp in AA, but you are certain to be in F, even if you miss a connection etc. Having done both, the F product in AA is superior, but the OP said that new places, lie flat etc wasn't the key thing, just SCs. Mrs Beast and I are off to the East Coast in June, J* *class to/from HNL bought during a sale, then F with Alaskan to/from HNL. Works out at about 900 SCs each for just under $4000 each (thank you strong AUD - fares booked when above parity) when we add in J ASA seats ADL-SYD-ADL. Only a short hop from there to QF Platinum....

Whilst that can be done, the OP want's the most 'bang for buck' which that doesn't fall into.

AS is a far superior airline though. I do love flying them (although i don't really like the prayer cards on the meal trays). Food isn't bad, but the AS customer service is stunning on board. Consistent and friendly/professional (listening QF? :p).

The Beast, could you please clarify one point ... are you booked with AA flight numbers on AS metal HNL-somewhere on the east coast and, if so, where? Thanks!

They have to be booked on the AA code to earn status credits. AS flights on AS will not do.

It's probably best to keep specific runs in PM's rather than in here. There used to be, as some people have pointed out, some amazing ones. We suspect it's publishing the excellent ones on here that they dried up.

What AA doesn't know... ;)

Yeah, point taken! Thanks, drewbles. I'd understood about the non-SC earn on AS flights, but hadn't managed to come up with other than AS #s on a quick and dirty search at aa.com. I shall have to look harder! ;)

Is it realistic to get an earn rate of less than $5/SC on QF Metal / QF FLT NOS "ow metal" ?

I missed out on the Double SC Promo , otherwise It definitely would have been Christmas in July'11. :-(
