Happy Australia Day to everyone.

Just out of absolute interest - if you had $10,000(AUD) to spend on status run's.

Goal to achieve MAX SC's by 30th July 2011.

1) where would you go ?
2) how many SC's you would earn in total ?
3) which month would you pick between now and July to Spend it all ?

Looking for some really high SC Numbers.
Regards ,
Happy Contrails.

PS :- Please reply and Please don't ignore my post. (I know it is crazy, I am actually think about forking out those 10G's )

$10K would get you a decent number of SC's - between 1000 and possibly up to 7500 depending on what you chose. You also have to factor in other costs like hotels, positioning flights etc.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Let's say that all $10,000 is towards flights ( just for the SC's ) - Goal to Earn MAX number of SC's.

Non- Flying Costs ( Keeping these to a Minimum ) -
Food , Hotels ( Going super cheap , Happy to live out of Sleeping a bag ) , transport all extra .

Thanks for your reply MAL.

I'm kinda glad I'm not crazy enough to spend $10k just to get SCs ;)
I already fly too much for work.

Having never spent any of my money specifically to get SCs, if I had to spend the $$ I'd go to destinations I wanted to go to (most likely Rome in J, which would be around those $$ :)), so likely wouldn't be maximising SCs.

Lock in option 3 for me I guess, Eddie! Sorry, but I can think of many, many things I'd prefer to spend $10k on.

DONE4 ex AKL

You do it right and you get just about 1,400 sc's if you do the US flights the right way...

For sleep I'd pick some long haul with fully flat beds... or lounges =)

But if it were me the only SC run section of the trip would be in the US, the rest of the flights I'd plan properly so that I saw new parts of the world...

Thanks,

Just keeping in mind the Main GOAL = MAX SC's. Not fussed about seeing new places , or doing all on Flat beds.

Looking for Cheapest possible SC's as MAL said upto 7500 SC's possible , want to know if more than 7500 can be achieved.

Was wondering what possibility one has to get max SC's with the given amount to be spent only on QF Metal ?

All to go towards my QF FFP. So essentially flying

* You can earn Status credits when flying on eligible Qantas, oneworld Alliance airlines (American Airlines®, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Finnair, Iberia, JAL (Japan Airlines), LAN, Malév Hungarian Airlines, Mexicana and Royal Jordanian Airlines), Air Pacific, Jetstar or QantasLink services - see the Airline Earning Table. Status credits can be earned on flights operated by Jetstar Airways where a Qantas flight number is entered on your ticket when booked in Y, B, H, K or W class, or on a Jetflex fare.

I would have thought a series of KUP/YUPs in LOTFAP with positioning.

You'll need to specify a start point (or potential start points) as that will drastically impact the earn.

Well Melbourne / Sydney / Brisbane all can be start points.

I think ~4000 SCs would be doable if you flew for 7 days solid days but that is not taking into account any hassles along the way.

I have voted but just out of interest why would you want to spend that much money on SCs? I know it is your money but it just does not make sense.

1) Just for the SCs then head straight to HNL, 2nd LAX.
2) I don't see the point in gaining any more SCS than I absolutely need.
3) April or May would be best by the time you hit June or July then the US summer period starts where planes get fuller, and then you also have the problem with summer storms which can put a spanner in the works.

Here's a routing without flying a single route back and forth (eg. 69$ SYD-CBR Red-E deals!)

SYD-BKK-AMM-BKK-SYD on QF and RJ in Y booked as two round trips SYD-BKK-SYD and BKK-AMM-BKK for 1189$ + 963$ respectively == 2152$ and 120 SC

Pick up a DONE4 ex AMM, books via AA booking engine, thus saving on YQ....

amm-lhr-syd-nrt-del-hkg-bom-hkg-jfk-dfw-anc-dfw-bos-dfw-lax-lhr-mct
Just under 8000$ 2080 Status Credits

MCT-AMM one way on RJ ~100$ --- 20 SC

Total SC's 2220

I am doing the RTW ex AMM just described, later in the year, right after my QFF membership year kicks off, to obtain WP for 2 years + SG for the year after, and because I've always wanted to do a DONE4 as a Mileage/Status Run.

I'm sure the RTW could be further optimized, perhaps extending into a DONE5 would net more SC's but the costs would go up substantially.

1) Probably *class to HNL then YUP/KUPs around the North America
2) No idea but say an earn rate of $3/SC = ~3000SC.
3) Somewhere to match the current *class sale. Probably March or May depending on planning time required.

I know you are talking about QF but I'm going to throw in a smart alec response  using DJ as my FFP

1) Anywhere that DJ fly, its based on how much $$$ you hand over in the first place but if we are talking routing I might go for something like HBA-MEL-ADL-PER-DRW-BNE-SYD-AKL-MEL-HBA

2) $7142.85 = 50,000 SCs (With $$$ left over)

3) Assuming I had 10k to burn (Unlikely) I'd go right now

Well, there you go, not helpful to the OPs situation (Given that they are talking about QF and all) but I'd had my fun so I will shut up now :-|

You could qualify Platinum for a lot less than that and that offers access to F lounges, so choosing QF over DJ is easily trumped :p

But I guess if I’d wont the lottery or something along those lines and had money to burn, I would. It depends how much I’d won. If I’d won 10k I wouldn’t spend it all, money in pocket is much better than not, but if I won more than 10k, as in at least double, it’s a possibility. I’d probably use less than 10k though, knowing what information is available here ;)

Although one giant waste of cash - off the top of my head 3500-4500 SC and 10 days of solid flying.

If I get 4500 SC then it is an earn rate of $2.2 Per SC pretty damn good , but someone else here suggested that it is possible to earn upto 7500 SC.

Please tell me on what route I can manage 4500 SC or more with the given budget.

Some things are best not published online...

Do an AA platinum challenge to the states, and spend the rest of the cash on 1c/RDM (2c/EQM) runs.

That should give you ~500,000 EQM and ~1,000,000 RDM, i.e. Lifetime Gold (Oneworld Ruby).

NB, consider that you can buy 55,000 AA miles for 1030 USD, you can buy RDM at 1.87c/RDM.

I would think that your overall earn/burn would be much better on AAdvantage than QANTAS, not even taking into account fuel taxes, etc. I'd also be surprised if you could earn more QFF points than AA points.
