Qantas unveils the biggest changes to status in program history

I feel like the program changes will be neutral or slightly positive for me. I typically earn 800-900SC's a year and rarely get the loyalty bonus as I fly a bit of OW as well. IMO the Green Tier is already gone after it changed last year for the worse. So, I'm thinking I'll get ~100SC's on the ground and ~100SC's from rollover to retain.... so need 500Sc's a year to retain, which with DSC's is easy to do.

My main concern is I'm a few years away from LTG and want to hit that before that is enhanced too much.

And me too from now (37k lifetime). It's nice to have 2 years banked, but then it's a long time until the next milestone at 45k - maybe not enough to keep me rusted on to QF.

At 41K SCs lifetime, I feel the same. Another 4K is too much of a stretch to go out of my way to chase at my age. Covid stalled my DONEx's and I'm unlikely to do any more.

Reckon it would be a fascinating research assignment to compare how many of these long time QF LTG folk would be close to BAEC LTG had they invested in that program instead.
Someone like yourself may have already reached it with your travel patterns.

Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but in an interview done with Executive Traveller, Loyalty CEO Andrew Glance says the PC / PC+ benefit of Status Credits on Classic Reward flights is being put somewhere else into the QFF program, and is staying in some form.

The ability to earn Status Credits on Classic Reward flights is one prized perk of Points Club membership, and Qantas says this isn’t going away.

It’s just a matter of determining exactly where it fits into the broader Qantas Frequent Flyer status landscape.

“We are looking for a new home for that benefit,” Glance confirms.

“We’re aware that it’s a much-loved benefit and will look at a way to implement it again in the future.”

It also looks like "on the ground vouchers" that are being rolled out into the full program may go beyond the current hotel / Qantas Wine vouchers given out as part of PC / PC+.

I'm not getting too excited about it right now. It's Qantas we're talking about, right?

I found the most interesting part of the article is that Glance says 30% of current LTG will already qualify for the banked year of Platinum.

There were a few caveats in that, including the period where it wasn’t possible to be a member if you had an Australian address (not insurmountable).
BA also never and still doesn’t have a lifetime OWS equivalent. That is probably what put most people off from jumping ship. Apart from recent years with the BA Holidays double tier points they have never really had the equivalent of DSC promos.

I briefly considered it, but I was already several years deep into P1 and somewhat naively believed that LTP when introduced would be realistic.
Kinda glad that I didn’t as I would have wanted to be GGL and that’s really a hard ask now.

and like a lot programs, it comes down to what airline you’re actually flying the most vs FF program. Yes, you can toss whatever to some obscure program or another biggie, but unless you’re on their metal you’re probably missing out on the best perks…

Somewhat ironically, I’ve actually had a better J to F upgrade hit rate with BA as QF WP than on QF! 😳

"The" banked year?
Perhaps most will only be able to get one banked year (me included), but the story is there's multiple years available/to be earned. The reality is the effort to earn is pretty much not worth it. I'll take *my* banked year of WP but the changes surely will do nothing to drive me to any further QF spend beyond what that one year as WP might offer. If it helps me burn my accrued points on CRs all well and good, but it probably only serves to accelerate my exit from the QF spell.
Yes it's interesting the point you make that LTGs have one banked year, but that points to a QF analysis of what these changes may be targeting.

TBH, pretty average they didn’t have everything fleshed out by now. Especially timing!
Hard up against the half yearly profit result announcement WRT timing of this announcement. Had to go with whatever stage the new formulations were at.

Probably but they could have still stuck a pole on the calendar on 01 Nov (for example) and then done a mea culpa if late or surprise(!) it’s actually 01 Sep (if early)….

Neat - thanks for sharing. Status Credits on Classic Reward for PC/PC+ was the only real point of contention for me with these changes and I'm glad Qantas recognises its value. If this benefit is to stay in some form elsewhere in the program, I've got to say I'm pretty happy with these changes overall.

I currently have 1,900 SC's and my new year starts on 1 July. Did they give an indication of what "later in 2026" meant for the rollover? I'm hoping I'd be able to bank the 250 excess credits (but not counting on it).

Same date for me... fingers crossed June is "later" enough - a kick start for the new year would be nice!
