Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

The system won't let you ticket it.

I don't know first hand as I personally don't talk to any of the offshore centres other than AKL, but I suspect a lot of the offshore contact centre staff (except AKL) don't know how to do a ticket exchange correctly and that's where they stumble. In fairness, AKL and HBA aren't infallible either.

As a rule of thumb, if the itinerary priced correctly for the original prime issue ticket, generally ticket exchanges should be fairly painless as well except if you introduce a flight that is not correctly filed (eg. a lot of the IB-South America routes).

It's actually complex - there's also instances where the caller is wrong eg. they found BA availabilty or CX availability by searching on the BA/CX websites where their members get more favourable availability and obviously QF doesn't have access to that inventory. I could go on forever listing all the possible issues...
True, but in the context of experienced AFF members, we’ve been told countless times that flights showing on QFFF’s own calendar are ‘only for new bookings’, or ‘the availability you see is not real time’, or ‘if you can see it and book it, we can then add it into the PNR’ (which is incorrect, and also defeats the purpose of a capped OWA).

To add to that list of incorrect statements: 'you can't add flights later than a year from the original booking date', or even simply: 'you can't add flights to a Classic Reward'.

lol I feel like I’m playing bingo with all these statements from the call centre. I think I got nearly all of them so far when I was booking mine earlier this year.

Whilst i believe that from time to time things are legitimately married segments, other times it more that its "too hard" to get the system to accept it and needs a very senior staff to do it (hence for all intents and purposes not doable for most staff).

I had a non OWA CR that i had to change stuff around earlier in the year and no matter what any of the previous staff did, they couldn't add a SIN - HND JL segment despite the availability showing. A HBA staff put me on hold for 15 mins and then reported she got it to work as well as the connections but it involved her doing some magic things.

Hi Everyone,

This morning I got a notification of flight changes to my Oneworld Classic Award. Nothing major.
But my question is whether I need to contact QF to get my booking re-ticketed?

Changes are:
RJ110 - Arrival time changed by 5mins
RJ165 - Departure time changed by 10mins
RJ730 - Departure time changed by 10mins.
No changes to dates, flight numbers, airports etc.

For reference other airlines in the booking are: CX, AY, (IB under a AY flight number), QF.

I've accepted the changes online. But just a bit unclear exactly when re-ticketing is/isn't required.
Usually when you accept, an eticket comes through pretty quickly.

On a side note, how'd you get an IB flight under AY code? I thought almost all CR were booked on the prime codes.

I thought this came up before, there’s some weird flight that is AY, but operated by IB? A bit similar to the QF/AY arrangement?

Monitor the re-issuing of the e-ticket
As it turned out after accepting that changes later this morning there was an aircraft change which resulted in a flight number and schedule change to one of the RJ flights. 787 changed to new all economy A320Neo, so downgraded to “premium Y” on that 2.5 hr leg IST-AMM Bit annoying but can’t find any other flight options without disrupting other legs so will probably just go with it.

New ticketing came through a few minutes later, before I had a chance to ring.

These are almost always point of commencement issues. JL is a known heavy user of POC.

When you search on the QF website for say SIN-HND, it uses POC SIN as that would be the booking origin.

However, if your PNR starts in SYD, then your PNR's POC is SYD. If JL hasn't made the inventory available to POC SYD, then you won't be able to use that inventory.

I explained how POC works in a post over on FT:

The eticket did indeed come through quickly after that.

Yeah I’m not sure what the arrangement is, but the flight is AY1661 HEL-MAD (3rd of June is our flight), the note on it just says “Operated by Iberia for Finnair”. Might be the same flight as IB6443 (same date and time), but on IB website it says it’s a finair flight with that IB flight number.

Wow, thanks for that! Incredible detail and helps explain certain things.

It would be great if the call centre could just tell passengers that! Because when they come up with excuses such as ‘you can’t add any new flights to an existing OWA’, or ‘the availability isn't real time’ it leads to credibility issues when they say things like ‘only for new bookings’. The latter which could make sense under the POC logic.
