Latest information about 28 degrees card

I suspect whether or not they extend the waiver will have a lot to do with how much has been spent on the card in the last year.

For various reasons, I had to put a fair bit through the card over the last year.

If it is, it’s a pretty low threshold! I only got $50 in Latitude vouchers… so that’s 5 months of $1000, and the other months significantly less (out it all on to star alliance HSBC).

I got the extension. Has it been a year already??

"We're waiving your monthly card fee for 12 months. Starting now!"

New email dated 15 May 2025 "We're waiving your monthly fee for another 12 months!"
(terrific - effective from when to what end date? 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️)

Great news - we want to recognise you as a valued Latitude 28° Global Platinum Mastercard credit card customer and waive your monthly credit card fee for another year - that's a saving of $96!
You don't need to do anything; it'll automatically be waived from your account.

Great... but when does the waiver end????

Hmmm.

Maybe they’re being preemptive… stopping people applying for another card now, in advance of Sept 25 when the free year was supposed to finish? Makes sense I guess.

I haven’t noticed this before, but I guess it’s been the case all along.

I paid off the statement balance of my 28° card via the app (80% of my limit) and it's link to my CBA cash account. Two days later I saw that the payment was cleared of 'pending' on the app and was shown as paid in CBA app.

The next day I noticed that my 'available to spend balance' will still below what it should’ve been if the payment had been made. That is, it said the payment had been made, and cleared ( no longer pending) but I still wasn’t able to spend that amount on the card.

I had to call to register for overseas travel so I queried the guy about this as well. According to him that’s normal, and it can take up to “six business days“ for the amount paid and cleared on the card to be re-made as available to spend.

He said payments made over the phone or via direct debit were cleared back to the card after a day or so, but they incurred a charge.

So you either pay them a fee to pay or they get use of your money in the background for another four or five days.

I raised a ticket and asked for someone to explain why it should take six business days for money that they acknowledge has been received to made available for me to spend again.

The answer is in your post.

So it's a subtle fee. If the $1.95 for BPay is less than the interest you could earn for the payment amount over 5 days then BPay it.

Nett 40¢ per day interest earn on ~$3kcan readily be had.

Setting up a Deflect Debit for the outstanding balance is fee free and you get the full available credit back (less any further charges made since last statement) the day they process the DD. It can take another day before the cash leaves your bank account.

While that is true and the debit occurs on or just before the payment due date, this is not useful in the circumstances where you may need to free up some "available credit" to make an international purchase.

True, but in the context of “paying off the balance” as per OP, I was clarifying that a direct debit is free and more efficient (processing) than other methods.

For me, if I’m bumping into my credit limit, I’ll just use one of many international fee free DCs. If I know I have a hotel / car rental coming up, I’ll make sure I have a decent buffer for any holding deposit.

Fortunately, I don’t often hit my $10k limit. The time I came close, I decided to request a credit limit increase and “the computer said “No!”’…😔 (wasn’t earning a regular salary…)

I had the same sort of conversation last week and received a similar answer.

I suspect that actually puts you in the high spend category, compared to the average customer. Which is why they tried this poorly-implemented fee strategy, to get rid of the very low spending customers.

IME it’s always been three days for the available balance to update. And always a day or two for the money to come out of my bank.

It shows as ‘paid’ the next day after actually paying, but just not available.

If you want it faster you have to pay!

Yes, today the credit is available for me - but they do maintain "up to 6 business days".

For me, it was just that it went from 'pending' to (not pending).

Clever technique, but for me, its the convenience of paying through the app. Fortunately its rare that there is credit withheld for the up to 6 day period that I need. If it does happen, like @SYD I'll just use another fee free card, like my NAB rewards.
_________

Main point was the absurdity of them claiming up to 6 business days (more than a week!) to have the credit refreshed. They must calculate that the value of using my payment funds in the background before the credit is re-instated is greater than the value they get from my using that credit again.

I’ve never heard the 6 business days anywhere… maybe it’s in the fine print?

I could almost make 6 regular days… if you paid after cut-off on friday, then nothing happens Sat and Sun, and it would hit your account midnight on Mon, for you to see on Tuesday. So F->T = 5 days. Sort of. lol.

Last time I made such a payment it was 5 business days for all the stages ... but of course that involved a weekend.
