Any one wants to take a guess what the NZ woman does visiting all places for 1 hour+, even at a tiny Four Square?

Great to see that, after a year, we’re all in this together 🙄
I was disgusted at that comment from the WA Premier.

Closing borders is his only method of control so he seeks to further the acceptance of it.

Given they've hinted that they may open Qld and Vic earlier than they would normally is suggestive to me that they realise they overreacted.

And in unrelated news, the NSW Government that has been basically the only one who has successfully managed COVID, is a different colour to that of Qld and Vic.

Given the coronavirus is now probably the lowest risk event in Australia (including rock fishing, as we’ve seen this week), it’s becoming very clear that some state governments are simply using state borders to push a particular agenda.

Sure. Would love nothing more. Unfortunately the virus is now being used to push barrels. Unless we want a thread that simply says “yet another day of zero Corona risk in Australia.”

It's so intertwined that you can't talk about one without the other.

The two go hand in hand but I don't think it's down legislative bent, but more so down state lines.

Vic mainly late to border closures. SA stricter and more often.

NT very strict early and have remained fairly strict.

WA the strictest by far, and Qld very strict too.

NSW the least, but have still indulged.

I would debate the claim of NT being strict, though that depends on how you define it. They have been pretty reasonable I feel.
My view is NT is best or 2nd best depending on your perspective.

As far as I’m aware, NT only uses 14-day quarantine and does not refuse entry. Given a sizeable proportion is possibly a high risk group and its hospitals I assume are more vulnerable to being overwhelmed, its a reasonable outcome. NT also downgrade zones quite quickly usually.

Refusing entry is not the right thing to do unless you don’t have enough quarantine beds / rooms and none of the States that has refused entry has made mention that capacity was an issue. And of course refusing returning residents entry is worse.

NT first to bring in Border Closures. Strict in large part as concerned about vulnerable communities. And I would not disagree with your last comment.

And I was not at all rating reasonableness of each State and Territories Border Controls in that post, just that when and where border controls were being implemented was not based on what legeslative bent the incumbent government was from. The various Premiers/Health Departments often seem to have quite different views on aspects of the pandemic.

A case came from Sydney [to Melbourne] and the virus spread from there but the government appears to have crushed it at this point.

Funny he wasnt so generous in his praise when a Victorian brought Covid to Croosroads Hotel and NSW crushed that. Also failed to mention that the perosn who brought the case back was a Victorian.

Much stricter than everyone except WA and SA - as one of only 3 states to lock out its own residents with no avenue to return home from red zones - no ability to even pay for HQ to get home. And huge doube standard for AO.

On par with Queensland for poor notice and poor preparedness on border policing when annoucnements are made.

SA stricter and more often.
More often yes, but their strictness has been relaxing (Victoria on the other hand getting more strict). Earlier lockdowns locked out their own residents, the most recent 2 lockdowns have allowed their own residents to return home.

NT very strict early and have remained fairly strict.

Less strict than WA, SA and Vic. Since Vic's second wave they have allowed any Aussie in (even non NT residents), provided they do 14 day HQ quarantine if from a hotspot. You forget how many Victorians used this path to get into Qld and eslewhere during Vic's prolonged second lockdown. Apart form NSW they have been the fastest to lift restrictions against other states too.

WA the strictest by far, and Qld very strict too.

Agree on WA, clearly under prepared and only one tool in their coughnal and that is hard borders not to mention an upcomming election. Queensland is the most trigger happy on slamming borders and seems incapacble of defining hot spots smaller than whole of Greater Sydney.

NSW the least, but have still indulged.

NSW closed borders once, at request of and in consultation with the Vic Premiere and PM - the only state to consult, rather than just tell their neighbours. And only after giving Vic longer than anyone else to get things under control - daily cases were well over 100 a day when borders came down, and there was a way home for NSW residents.

As a border resident, we've been suffering at the hands of various governments for six months now. What genius thought that dividing a reasonably large city in half, and leaving it that way for months on end was a good idea?

Locking residents out of their own state is utterly disgusting. End of story.

Roadblocks. NSW police at least used multiple lanes, and even then the traffic jams were often huge. Vic pol make the dual lanes reduce to one. They may have two checking lanes, but the entry is alway single lane. End result is that the traffic banks up so far into Albury that it ends up crossing multiple traffic lights, which adds to the chaos. I know of quite a few people who simply avoid the trip to Albury, unless forced into it.

Surely the border must leak like a sieve JB ?
A tinnie or an inflatable kayak with a folding pushie, seems too easy.
I guess you could be back traced with the app and shopping receipts , but nothing is risk free,,,,
