Yes let us hope so.

For today, the three states most likely to have a case, plus the ACT, have reported zero cases. Once we have the test results for the other states and territories we will know how today has gone.

I dont trust that they will be cleaned thoroughly, ideally mattresses and any soft furnishings would need to have been guaranteed to be replaced from all the medi/hot hotels to get consumer confidence back.

One thing that gives me comfort is the genomic linking of cases, and if contamination were such an issue you would expect by now some reports of transmission in HQ from previous occupants. Whilst it appears intra-hotel transmission has occurred (Hotel Grand Chancellor), IIRC it was amongst guests who were all in the hotel at the same time, not from room based contamination from past guests.

Also IIRC the studies suggest it is the smooth hard surfaces on which the virus survives longer - which also are easier to clean - than the porous and softer surfaces. I've spent 2x 2 weeks in HQ and haven't contracted the virus, on both occassions I used my own spray n'wipe to go over the hard surfaces in the room once we arrived. In any event, for mattresses, I think the sheet and mattress protector acts as a good barrier for transmission.

But of course, you have to do whatever you feel comfortable with.

Thinking AFL is only 8 weeks away, and as it stands bar SA, none of the AFL teams can fly in and out of Perth to play Dockers & Eagles. Cross fingers McGowan opens WA by end of next month. All it would take is one case in Victoria and hard border shuts. If this happens, both WA teams may just call east coast home the entire season and AFL have to play more games over there (they should be fine with that).

What makes it harder for WA teams is that WA typically requires the full 14 quarantine, and not just isolate on entry till a negative test.

So if WAs keeps that preference then yes Dockers and WCE may have to relocate as it becomes quite punitive on other teams to visit, as well as the WA to return after an interstate match.

For the AFL 8 weeks from this Saturday is March 20th.A certain event happens in WA the week before. If the PERfect Paranoid Premier doesn't want to lose a few supporters he will probably announce in 5,6 weeks time that AFL players will not have to isolate for 14 days.Maybe just need a negative test.

Question: When was NSW's last official unknown community case?

So officially what is the last unknown community case now? The recent two strains in NSW caused many different clusters which at least initially were not transmission linked. Some of these after contact tracing will have been linked.

So what now is the last such official still unknown community transmission case for 28 day border clock?

I ask as due to Queensland 28 day rule.

The regions must have 28 days without any unlinked community transmission before the badge is removed.

This means people who have been in a ‘hotspot’ area in the past 14 days are unable to enter Queensland without quarantining.

Though at least the 48hr linking rule has gone:

It recently relaxed a rule which required the source of an infection to be found within 48 hours before the border clock reverted back to zero days.

So from the graph below, have any on the pink (under investigation and yet to be classified), become yellow (unknow) or blue cases (known)?

Does the Border clock start on 30th Dec?

I'd think it starts on the 16/1 on the unlinked case.
From memory the 17/1 were all family members of previous case.

Yes I am hoping that that it would be earlier and that some linking may have occurred, but I am fearing that it is the 16th. So 13th Feb to reopen without quarantine :(

Qld are deciding next week. If everyone else (except WA) stays at effectively 14 day quarantine then Qld will be justified to not change anything. The fact some States are reducing the footprint hard border zone will play a part. Never know by next week some may go quarantine free for some of Sydney.

SA expects to be fully open after Australia Day or end of Jan assuming no further cases.

Looks like good news may be on the way for WA and VIC border - could be relaxed ‘early’ (early for WA at least!) and ahead of WA opening to QLD or NSW.

This would be a huge boost with the biggest trans con route opening back up (MEL/P

WA praises VIctorian response to Sydney outbreak with border announcement expected this week

Western Australia is considering easing restrictions on visitors from Victoria sooner than it had originally planned after the state recorded its 18th consecutive day with no new locally acquired cases of coronavirus.

WA Premier Mark McGowan has indicated that his government could ease its border restrictions with Victoria sooner than originally planned, due to its run of days with no community transmission.

“They [Victorians] are doing well, I would say congratulations,” Mr McGowan said.

“A case came from Sydney [to Melbourne] and the virus spread from there but the government appears to have crushed it at this point.
