Does anyone know why many QF codeshares on AA aren’t bookable in J? Just sold out?

Trying to book LAS-LAX-SYD in J, but I get a choice of the QF number in Y or AA in J for the LAS-LAX leg (both connecting to QF)

Furthermore, the website says you only get the AA baggage allowance (2x 23) on LAS-LAX, would you not get the QF international allowance as it’s booked on the same PNR? I’m SG but would have thought you’d get 3x32 based on flying in J LAX-SYD.

it seems i'm getting the short end of the stick :(:(

Only if you believe what the broken website tells you.

Clearly examples when the calculator is wrong UNLESS different fare types are being combined...

However in Pushka's example of the J return via the same route being less SC than going over, clearly that makes no sense.

Not strictly related to DSC promo so probably should go in a different thread, but is this consistent behaviour over different dates, or just on one date? It's entirely possible that QF's codeshare inventory, specially in J, is exhausted for the flights in question, while AA still has availability.

Remember a codeshare involves one carrier (eg: QF) buying an specific allocation from the operating carrier (eg: AA).That doesn't mean they can or will be able to sell all the available inventory on the flight.

The other option is that they (QF) are limiting availability in specific buckets (eg: I) on specific O&D routes (such that you may see avail for LAS-LAX-BNE but not LAS-LAX-SYD).

I have purchased in the past LAS-LAX-SYD on QF codeshares.
I did it around this time last year for March.
BUt as above, this is off the DSC topic

Thanks. I know not strictly on topic, but for me completely on topic as I’m trying to get this sorted and booked before the promo expires!

In that case note that it's irrelevant in terms of DSC as a QF codeshare on AA will *NOT* earn DSC.

Looking at 14 Sep 18.

It’s offering LAS-JFK-LAX-BNE-NTL all on QF metal except LAS-JFK for the same price. Great for SCs, but I don’t know if I like the routing - J or not that’s probably a bit much!

I have been waiting for the DSC to book my flight to Europe next year. So disappointing that the QF fares from CNS to LHR where in excess of $8500 return per person. This didn't even include the new 787 via Perth only for the A380 to SIN. I had to end up giving this a miss and instead booked a Finnair flight for $5250 and this included a domestic flight in Europe to my destination. I just saved myself almost $4000 per person but missed out on the DSC's and at the end got a much better J product. Maybe next time i have more luck

There are benefits and detractions to any course of action and whilst you are ruing the loss of the DSC's, I think a saving in the vicinity of yours @dacom wholly outstrips that loss ;).

I'd hate to think that there is any unconscionable conduct by QF that they raised fares just prior to the advent of the DSC, particularly International J & F fares. That woudl be an interesting class action.

Seems like a bit of a stretch to me.

It did cross my my mind but wouldn't think so either, however these flights were the most expensive i have seen in a long time with almost no availability. Might be just bad timing. At least i scored a DSC offer on the last round with a milk run to SIN. The trip is CNS-BNE-SYD-SIN-MEL-SYD-CNS. that scored me 880 SC for just under $3000. that was an offer i was hoping to pickup again. At least i retain P for another year with the AY flight.

So, we have until 11:59pm tonight to book unless you have a double yolker plan in place ;)
After a lot of research I finally booked my best bang for bucks trip this afternoon to Bali / DPS. If anyone wants to emulate it, buying Sydney to DPS via Melbourne on 29/8 in J is still going for $1, 000 I think. That means 320 SC under the deal for that sector alone. Coming back to Sydney the only J available is the direct flight on 6/9 @ almost $1200 for 250 SC, but nevertheless 570 SC total for about $2,190 inc. CC fees @$3.82 per SC is way cheaper than anything else I could find in the general Asia region. Not going further abroad than that as already booked to Europe on 10September on the February DSC offer, which is netting only 390 SC in Y for about $2500! A return trip to Auckland for Christmas will net me 340 SC for about $1,800. So virtually only one more flight will take me to Platinum and my membership year does not end until June, yippee.

I can see an example of a higher fare showing - "advertised" MEL-OOL in J is $713, yet all i see showing is $782 D fares (the regular non sale is also a D fare). Cynical me suggests the lower one will return tomorrow. The connect via SYD is $741... which is still overs.

This is the first time during a DSC promo I seriously feel the fares have been raised... The proof will be what happens at midnight when the promo ends. Fare drop? Big Sale? Both would not surprise.

Still if people are buying the fares (not just this specific example, but any of them) and with the idea to get DSC, then QF wins on yield.

IF it is deliberate (I am not convinced, I only checked a few random dates) then the real losers are those who need to book irrespective of any promos which would be very annoying.

IMHO

I found the same booking a PER-Europe trip. In fact, J prices were so outlandish that it was only a few dollars more to turn it into a DONE4.

Now I have to face the problems of how the Qantas site deals with bookings made via the OneWorld site. Had to request the e-ticket and invoice and still no access to seat changes. I presume it's the work of the IT kiddies.

Still, I should rack up enough SC's to ensure WP for another year. First time I've been able to actually make decent use of DSC's.

Why so? Seems to me a very' normal' thing for them to do.

The only thing I'd book during a DSC is something like a DONEX ( like I did last time :)). Then the extra SCs are completely 'free'.

Only if you believe what the broken website tells you.

Clearly examples when the calculator is wrong UNLESS different fare types are being combined...

However in Pushka's example of the J return via the same route being less SC than going over, clearly that makes no sense.
It seems wrong and I also asked a customer service officer through chat, he also said that wrong calculation should be the right one.

I bought a connecting flight for my departure and a direct flight back, just to be safe. Thankfully i won’t need more SC to qualify to gold :)

The fares to the main destination I book during DSC are significantly more expensive than they would be on a good sale. About a third more.

I'll probably see if that destination is on sale next year if there's a DSC promo. I may end up going to QLD for the day instead.

I saw the same issue with Adelaide - DPS today. 40 SC different up and back.

Friend booked AY RTW for March 2019
$5899
Approx 950 SC incl DSC
SYD-HKG-HEL-JFK-LAX-BNE-SYD

You can easily get well over 1500 SC's with that fare with DSC.
