The ABC was banned by the Nauru Government for being critical of the Nauru Government. In other words, the ABC was banned for doing what a news organisation should do -- holding public officer holders to account for the exercise of public power.

It is truly stunning that you cannot see this ban as the act of censorship that it so clearly is.

Interesting I have read the actual Nauru Government release. Interesting that they say at the end “continued bias and
Have you ever written a complaint to any Murdoch news outlet? The response will be underwhelming.
Want another underwhelming experience with a complaint then write to QF

Interesting my ignorance and I did bother to read the actual release from the Nauru Government on Monday

It should be noted that no representative from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation will be granted a visa to enter Nauru under any circumstances, due to this organisation’s blatant interference in Nauru’s domestic politics prior to the 2016 election, harassment of and lack of respect towards our President in Australia, false and defamatory allegations against members of our Government, and continued biased and false reporting about our country. It is our right, as it is the right of every nation, to choose who is allowed to enter.

It would appear that the Nauru hierarchy consider that the bias has been ongoing and I have not read anywhere else so far that they are saying the same things about other media outlets.

It was reported on Sky News (Yes Paul Murray live God forbid) last night that a coup may be happening in Canberra with other media outlets giving support to the ABC and considering boycotting Nauru.

Now if that happened would all the punters consider that an act of censorship and if so IMHO is not right as the Australian taxpayer (and their hard earned tax dollars) has a right to know what is going on.

However I (and my ignorance) thank you for sharing your enlightened opinion.

Is that the same ABC that has been banned from Nauru. Then again we have to keep that left wing politics moving and supporting things like the Paris Agreement to sink us all down the drain.

Nauru, a world player. Is Sky sending anyone at all?

Don't know I don't work for Sky News. However do know who's not going.

Nauru, a world player but big enough to host the Pacific Islands Forum and take Australia refugees. Will they fit everyone on the island?

Australian media send pool reps to these events. In this case it was to be 1x ABC and 2x AAP.

But then it's up to the host country to accept any person seeking to enter the country.

I did hear one NZ news group wasn't going to send anyone in support of the ABC.

A pacific island hosting a pacific island forum and takes Australian govt money to house detainees. Not something I'll be following.

I signed it happily as have complained about it before to Qantas as the response I got was that it was a commercial agreement but they would take my advice into consideration.... Its bad enough shows that feature people like Bolt and Credlin and co exist in the first place, let alone are shown in a public space.... each to their own I guess but some of the cough they have on that channel is just plain irritating and such poor quality in general, its an embarrassment to broadcasting in this country!

I do note though the staff change it to ABC NEWS 24 quite often if you ask politely thankfully.

Good to see that free speech is alive and well.

Mainly because Change.org is there to let the poor, the downtrodden, the voiceless and the everyday people get a say.
Not quite the attributes I'd expect from those with lounge membership.

You see it differently?

Cheers,
Renato

Plenty of champagne socialists in the QP

Can you point me to where I made any comment about a radio show?

And if ratings are going to be used to determine which station is shown by default in Qantas lounges, then ABC News should be chosen as it has higher ratings than Sky News (Source: Latest Available Reports).

Post #2. Referenced Alan Jones, or was that Alan Jones the local Grocer, not Alan Jones the broadcaster ?

So calling for sky news to be banned in the QP isn’t censorship?

ABC do seem to have a bee in their bonnet about borderline-illegal (is it even borderline?) imprisonment of refugees, and the Nauru government members who took the kickbacks probably don't like anything about said kickbacks getting anywhere near close to being Really Loud Public Knowledge.

So calling for sky news to be banned in the QP isn’t censorship?
IMHO, if anyone should even bother about doing ANYTHING about this, the result should be balanced. Which is stupid, what they need to swap between the We Love Trumpie channel and the Fairness & Equality channel every hour?
While I've not listened-to Sky News at all myself, I've seen that Andrew Bolt always seems to be there, which means it's 100% paid advertising for whatever the current Liberal Party agenda is ... but if people are stupid enough to (a) listen to him and (b) not see through it, I don't see why that should have ANY affect on what gets played in the background & ignored in a Qantas lounge.
Whoever's outraged should be more outraged at the amount of power being wasted.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

You can watch re runs of Doc Martin in the ADL VA lounge if QF’s tv choices don’t suit.

Which media group is the above????????

What’s the point of this continued right versus left discussion on AFF. Nobody is going to sway anyone away from their chosen belief. It is clear which side of the fence people are on, it just becomes tedious with justifications on why they think they are right and others are wrong.

I find it amusing that the petitioner asks for 'a news organisation with a belief in the tradition of fairness and balance' and them someone suggests the ABC in its place...

Why amusing? Consistently shown to be the most trusted and reliable news organisation in Australia year on year. Not even Liberal party stooged inquiries can find real evidence of bias.

If Sky and Fox submitted themselves to such audits you'll need a North Face parka down in Hell.

I signed it and let Qantas know that Id like to see Sky gone from both lounges and on board. Havent we learnt anything from Fox in the US....

Not sure why you are pinning such value on the opinions of the Naura gvernment. Once one of the richest states in the world, now one of the poorest, this doesnt reflect well on the governance of this country. Either a) they are abysmal at governing or b) this is an indication of corruption, or c) probably most likely a mixture of both, its hard to see a good news story in relation to the government of Nauru.

And yes , the ABC has reported along those lines and the Nauru government doesnt like it, but is that evidence of bias? Most despots the world over make this accusation of bias and intelligent people the world over recognise those accusations for what they really are.
