Trying to Get Rid of Skynews from Qantas Lounges.

Oh, dear oh, dear. Its going to be one of those discussions is it? I express a negative opinion on a group of people who participate in change.org petitions and all of a sudden I'm asked if I'm saying there shouldn't be any debate. And somehow we are also now talking about suppression of freedom of the press?

Really? That's the standard?

I'm sure TheRealTMA will come in and do a good skewer job, but he'll owe me a glass of Michael Hall Shiraz for it. :)
Apparently I’m not allowed to make comments or give options on AFF anymore.:)

Ah Sky, Australia’s answer to Fox News...

If you sincerely believe that Sky is the Australian equivalent of Fox ... which Venezuelan propaganda school did you graduate from?

Qantas lounges are, for the most part, the domain of sophisticated professionals and businessmen and it is sensible for Qantas to provide Sky on the lounge TVs. If we were talking about a Brunswick hipster cafe then the ABC might be more appropriate for the target demographic...

I just fell off my chair laughing. Now have to get another glass of red and find my thongs for my QF F lounge visit on Thursday.

Sound is mostly turned down or off when I am there. So it's no big deal for me, couldn't care if it's Sky, ABC, or the comedy channel.

You do realize that thongs are indeed permitted as footwear in Qantas First lounges. :)
Oh ... footwear ... yeah OK, that’s less scary than I thought ...

Isn’t Sky kinda all Andrew Bolt? Like invented, inaccurate, blatant Liberal Party propaganda?

Yes, and sometimes which ever channel it is I wonder what they are talking about. I wish QF/VA would turn on subtitles on so that you can read it.

It amuses me to see people who say they never watch Fox news,Skynews or read News Ltd papers know they are so biased.
There are several left of centre people on those channels and papers but can anyone name a right of centre major anchor on the ABC.
And the Skynews programs on subscription TV are amongst the highest rating programs. The nemesis-Andrew Bolt is the 4th top program in prime time only being beaten by 3 Fox Football programs.
Why does the ABC news continue to be beaten by the commercial channel news programs if it is so wonderful.

I must say I had a bit of a chortle, but only have a glass of cordial to fling around.. And no Flounge visit in prospect. :(

Sarsaparilla I hope! Maybe Chinotto?

Before this thread gravitates further off topic and Donald Trump starts getting blamed for everything, notice the modus operandi of the petitioner: Create a biased petition and include such emotive and false comments such as "Qantas passengers have no escape from it". Why no attempt to directly petition Sky News to change their programming or mix of journalists? - just aim to cause commercial damage to the organisation by trying to enlist a third party (Qantas) to do the "dirty work" for them.

What's next - a petition to ban Qantas from airport terminals if they don't fall into line? Maybe enlist the CFMMEU and Get Up to picket the QF lounges? If you don't like what's on the TVs don't watch it, or leave, or go and stand with your miserable faces and your churlish minds in a corner somewhere but why try and dictate what people should be allowed to watch

Have you ever written a complaint to any Murdoch news outlet? The response will be underwhelming.

Never an issue for me. If I am there for work then I need to deal with the calls and email, and for leisure trip keep the kids from going around annoying everyone.

Why does the ABC news continue to be beaten by the commercial channel news programs if it is so wonderful.
Because the people who watch it don’t desire actual news, they either desire their own beliefs repeated back at them or just simply entertainment.
Someone telling them anything that might not enforce what they already believe is uncomfortable.
Same reason your Ray Hadleys, Alan Joneses, John Lawses etc etc rate so well.
Also lookit all the reality TV that rates; it’s basically all about pretty base people doing base things, not about actual reality.

Before this thread gravitates further off topic and Donald Trump starts getting blamed for everything
Trump (or at least his personal success) is as much a symptom as a cause.

Actually I have - and, underwhelming or not, at least they do reply, which certainly, in my experience, can't be said about the ABC.
Still doesn't justify the coward's approach of blackmailing a third party to do one's dirty work.

In a way it is. Similar, but to but different from Barry Cassidy who is like an invented, inaccurate, blatantly biased, Labor Party propagandist..

Well who would have believed it - Renato #1 actually authored a worthwhile thread!!!

I am a paid-up QC member (on hold for the past 10 years of SG qualification) who would rather stare at a test pattern than watch the excrement that flows from the very anus of media down under.

Like the true commie-loving, tree-hugging, chardy-chugging, [your insult here ... ] that I am - I signed the petition with glee. Why Qantas would choose such dross over ABC News 24 is beyond comprehension. What?!? They get paid to do so??!!??

So like Alan Jones and John Laws they are simply media coughs to the highest bidder? Doesn't cash for comment apply in this scenario? No???

Well then let's hope that some good comes of that sub-human baboon called Leyonhjelm .... would be quite ironic if it did.

Getting back to the original post. What damn business is it of the professional whiners from 'change.org' what Qantas plays in its lounges? What else don't they like that they might want changed? The headlines in tomorrow's OZ (or SMH for that matter)? ASX prices on big screens in Qantas lounges (disgusting capitalistic exploitative mechanism of the patriarchy. I think. ).
.

I can think of a few things they might want changed next.

As Australia is plagued by domestic violence and rape, and as alcohol is a factor in domestic violence, clearly the free beer, wine and spirits in the lounges should be banned - and you are a misogynist if you are male and disagree.

Also, the New Zealand Naturist magazines they had in the magazine reading racks last time I was in the lounge, contained pictures of naked women, and thus also may require a petition.
Cheers,
Renato

Ah Sky, Australia’s answer to Fox News...
Skynews is very good, but it is not as much fun and as addictive as Fox News.
Cheers,
Renato

Thanks very much.

But I must say that I am kind of shocked at your position.

I've been very impressed with presenters on Skynews like Peter Beattie, Nicholas Reece, Graham Richardson and Christina Keneally

Renato
