Trying to Get Rid of Skynews from Qantas Lounges.

Question - does anyone here actually have a stake in this? That is, is an actual Qantas Club member?.

I don't have a stake at all.
But my brother is a member, and I know he'd definitely want Skynews in the lounge - since he likes watching it on my Foxtel Go service.
Cheers,
Renato

I'd suggest that many AFF members are either QC members or have access by virtue of status. Myself included.

Can you point me to where I made any comment about a radio show?

And if ratings are going to be used to determine which station is shown by default in Qantas lounges, then ABC News should be chosen as it has higher ratings than Sky News (Source: Latest Available Reports).

You referred to him as a fruit loop - ergo. Ratings of 1.7 for the ABC and 0.6 for Sky are hardly a ringing endorsement for either.

I agree but now that you have meantioned bias Isn’t that the reason the ABC have been banned from Nauru because of so called left wing bias

It's more than the ABC don't automatically say nice things about governments. The official line is "due to this organisation’s blatant interference in Nauru’s domestic politics prior to the 2016 election, harassment of and lack of respect towards our President in Australia, false and defamatory allegations against members of our government, and continued biased and false reporting about our country". Source - Nauru bans the ABC from covering Pacific Islands Forum over 'blatant interference'

(Figured I'd better get a non ABC source for this quote).

Of course this discussion of "bias" is pretty worthless. There is no way I'm going to think that Sky News or any other news source of that ilk are anything other than bias'ed, and no matter what I say I doubt I would change your mind on your thoughts on the ABC.

I agree to think bias is only one reporting channel would be just plain stupid IMHO

This comment reveals a shocking level of ignorance.

The ABC was banned by the Nauru Government for being critical of the Nauru Government. In other words, the ABC was banned for doing what a news organisation should do -- holding public officer holders to account for the exercise of public power.

It is truly stunning that you cannot see this ban as the act of censorship that it so clearly is.

Have a read of the following article: Nauru ABC ban: Australia damned by faint criticism

Ah yes, someone else who thinks that reporting on things youd rather the public not hear is a sign of bias. As opposed to being a sign that they are just doing the job that investigative journalists are supposed to do, investigate and publish.

Just saying it's bias doesn't mean it is bias, Donald.

Getting back to the original post. What damn business is it of the professional whiners from 'change.org' what Qantas plays in its lounges? What else don't they like that they might want changed? The headlines in tomorrow's OZ (or SMH for that matter)? ASX prices on big screens in Qantas lounges (disgusting capitalistic exploitative mechanism of the patriarchy. I think. ).

Just a crude, partisan political hack job.

A political decision, more likely due to ABC reporting being seen as not being favourable to the government of Nauru.

I think independent reporting on the Nauru elections and government is probably a more accurate description. There seems to be no issue for SkyNews and The Australian to get in.

They're not professional whiners, change.org is simply a platform , nothing more. Anyone can start a petition -> Start a petition · Change.org

It is simply the internet's answer to me printing up sheets of paper and standing down on the street corner asking people to sign so I can present that piece of paper to whomever I think has the power to make change.

If you so wished you'd be able to make a counter petition asking QF to keep sky news on the TV's in the lounges.

<snip>.

Sorry, clarification: Its the petition-organisers and signers that are professional whiners. Oh, IMHO, of course. ;)

I only watch ABC and SBS at home but some of the posters, like me, could probably benefit from a diversification of views when they visit the QP! Just reading the SMH and watching ABC doesn't do much for balance of perspective, if you know what I mean ...

Change of subject: Does anyone think Barrie Cassidy will ever retire? Even Red Kerry got out - eventually.

All I pointed out was that the reason (as reported) that the ban was because of bias. I didn’t say I thought it was bias. I think the issue a lot more complex To say “ah someone else who thinks etc” is wrong. I have many opinions on the issue. I watch Sky News as I have found they give the other side of a lot of stories that mainstream don’t want to or won’t touch or give another view on but thank you for sharing your opinion debate is still good and alive.

Cassidy is only 68 and clearly clear thinking enough to write and manage The Insiders etc. I hope he goes on.

Btw, The Aus will also provide an angle if Fairfax is insufficient. Pretty easy to do a direct comparison.

It amazes me how easy it is to get people to take the bait. Now just going to show my true ignorance and settle in and watch the Bolt Report then Paul Murray for another side of the news

People aren't allowed to express their opinion on matters anymore? I guess we better shut down these forums then.

The change.org website is simply a mechanism for groups of people to express their opinion on matters. That is done by people on this forum all the time. Indeed, change.org is far more representative of the views of the general population than the opinions expressed here because you can determine how many people support the view.

It amazes me how easy it is to get people to take the bait.

It amazes me how easy it is to convince people to support suppression of freedom of the press.

Oh, dear oh, dear. Its going to be one of those discussions is it? I express a negative opinion on a group of people who participate in change.org petitions and all of a sudden I'm asked if I'm saying there shouldn't be any debate. And somehow we are also now talking about suppression of freedom of the press?

Really? That's the standard?

I'm sure TheRealTMA will come in and do a good skewer job, but he'll owe me a glass of Michael Hall Shiraz for it. :)
