Who is AFF's Ryan Bingham?

...The only thing I qualify for consideration on though is nights away from home. This year it will be 273.

Been there, done that. Tough life. Best / worst I did was 27 nights home during a 12 month period. Slept in airline seats more than hotel room beds. It was c**p, I felt like s**t and I will never do that again.

Add me to the list of not having seen 'Up in the Air' yet. I will get around to it one of these days.

Now I would love to be Ryan Bingham in more ways than one but I will have to settle for just being plain old me and if I do >100 flights in a year then I have had a very good flying year....

for all the miles I have done I have never slept (when not at home) in a seat outside of a hotel - the hotel was because I was too pissed to make it to the bed!

I wouldn't travel if I wasn't leaving an airport to go to a hotel, or a flight home regardless of how late I got home.

My worst experience was a SIN/PER flight with a connection to MEL. Waited 2-3 hours before the bus could take me to the DOM terminal.

No job or holiday is worth sleeping in an airport unless it's at a transit hotel IMHO

Once a thread goes to a 2nd page I thought it worth a look, some funny comments and some interesting flying stats from some people.

I have watched the movie twice at the cinema; and then brought the DVD but I can't seem to find it at the moment.

Add me to the list of not having seen 'Up in the Air' yet. I will get around to it one of these days.

Hurry up and get with the program, members who haven't watched the movie should be banned, maybe admin should do a 5 question survey for members who log into AFF and can't get it right are sent a link to a video shop.

It seems to me that criteria for becoming Mr, Mrs, Ms, Dr, Miss, or Master "Ryan AFF Bingham" should include, but not be limited to:

Number of miles flown
Nights away from home
Credit Card combination to maximise points
Airline Status
Hotel Status
Rental Car status. (Not sure how valid that is in Australia.)
Any wow factor cards and memberships
+ possession of a room key to a Formule 1 hotel in South America :p

So for me YTD

46,384
32
Westpac Mastercard, ANZ Visa(yes I should get a better points earning credit card for all the BAS I have to pay
QF WP (yes real) VA Plat, Flying Blue Plat, Lufthansa Senator(got to love status matching)
IHG Gold, Hilton Gold :)
What is a car, :(
Nothing :-|

Total miles 482,520

My stats aren't too bad for AFF, but a long way off some members.

I have a few other members in mind,

Current stats are interesting but some members who are top tier in 2 or more airline programs, earned top tier in 3 or more hotel programs and who have been doing it for 10 or more years certainly takes some dedication.

Believe me when I say I have not had a chance to watch it since I came across a copy of the movie a few months ago. :p

Wow. I fall short :p

Miles: 59623
Nights away from home: 59
CC Combo: Amex QF Ultimate/Woolies QF MC
FF Status: QF WP (earned), DJ WP (Matched and well on the way to re-qualifying)
Hotels: HHonors Gold (Earned)
Car Hire: Hertz #1 Gold (not the DJ freebie) and Avis Preferred
No "wow" factor cards, although I can say i've spent less than 90 minutes in Bermuda last year :)
Total Flying Miles (to QFF, not to DJ or AA): 180,000
Shopping: 3200
CC: 110,000
Car Hire: 210 (most go straight to AA)
Restaurants: 500 (gotta work on that one)
Other: 41,000
Total Miles for 12 months: 334910

Looks like you must have spent a lot more on cc's than me Bundy.

(I should have another work trip in there for 2 more weeks with a lot of flights, so that'll no doubt jump up considerably, and it'll be another 14 nights away from home, before the end of the year)

My vote goes for munitalP, and possibly Keith009 based on the fact his home is not where he actually lives M-F :)

I have a few other members in mind,

I reckon Dot must be up there. He doesn't post all his flights here, but he has done a silly amount of long haul this year alone.

I'll have to work out mine, but I'm mainly short haul, lots of flights but all Dom!

Last FF year i did app 100 to 120 flights.

Most of my flights are either BNE to TSV or CNS return and a majority are day trips and some times it might be a monday or Tuesday to TSV and Thursday or Friday up to CNS.

I probably spend app 100 nights a year away.

I do have my own special car rental code with Budget and also have a special corp rate with a motel in TSV which saved me a heap during cyclone yasi clean up period.

But I am a long way from Ryan Bingham.

Formule 1 in Bela Horizonte!!!

No to qualify it has to be a key card from the Formule 1 Bela Horizonte. I mean just translate that town's name to English!

Don't you gentlemen mean Belo Horizonte (CNF). Yes, I have been there :D (but wasn't in a Formule 1 hotel ;)) and didn't keep any room keys

Have we actually worked out which method is going to give a more accurate calculation?

I'd have thought clifford would be up there in lifetime BIS miles basis.

Yes quite right Belo Horizonte. I'm intrigued now, where did you stay there?

I think the real Ryan Bingham's here are being quite modest and not posting!!

Hmm, will look it up, was August 2001. Remember it was on the city side of the train tracks, overlooking the slums. Otherwise, will ask my friend who lives there, he'll remember.

That was quick, it was Ouro Minas Palace Hotel. I opted for high end for risk minimisation.

I sure as hell know it's not me...

.......Ouro Minas Palace Hotel. I opted for high end for risk minimisation.

aaagh I see, very similar to the Formule 1, but with nice rooms, a restaurant, conference facility, decent menu, carpet in the rooms, although I'm sure the Formule 1 Presidential Suite would have been similar!! :p

Plus I was lucky to have my friend pick me up from the airport and return me to the airportthe next day. Not speaking the language was a downside - he translated everything for me at the hotel when booking in and at check-out, plus at check-in. Very handy

IainF was starting to be like Ryan for a while in one of his jobs, but has calmed down in recent years - although his wife has just started a shuttle job.

Just mucking about with my excel spreadsheet, I have taken a snapshot from 01-01-09 to now.

I am approx 20 flights short in this list - I have not counted Value air, Ryan, Easyjet, REX and Air NZ

Very few of these flights are same day return, Rydges and Accor would have most of my business over this time with a little going to Priority Club, and of course, local hotels/motels where the chain hotels don't exist.

Since Nov 2010, 90% of my hotel stays have been at Hiltons or Holiday Inns

Ryan Bingham? I don't think so, but I do travel a lot and have similar cards to Ryan ;) (and have done the card match numerous times hehe)

Do you give your home address as Melbourne Airport?

You are certainly looking a bit Ryan Binghamish with these stats.:)
